Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s Contract Status (Update: Blue Jays sign Vlad to 14-year, $500 million deal)

Post#1 » by JaysRule15 » Wed Mar 12, 2025 4:40 pm

Since we're getting a lot of stories about Vlad and his contract coming out, and I'm sure stories will continue coming throughout the season, I'm just creating this thread here as a place to talk about it. Kindly try to keep all Vlad contract related conversations in here, rather than posting them in various other threads.

Most recent story is by Shi saying the deadlock was over $50 mill.

Not buying it but if this FO is desperate enough to do something that stupid, fire them immediately

reality is that they can't afford to lose him for nothing (or 50 cents on the dollar) and they waited too long. Should have extended him or traded him last year. add it to the long list of fireable offences for this shite FO.

Ridiculous for Vlad. Dumb and Dumber (Atkins and Shapiro) panicking with the bad press they received over not signing Vlad to the obscene money he was looking for. Instead of doing the right move which was trading this guy before the season, and fielding offers for him the past month after contract extension was rejected by him.

Vlad has much more to lose if he has a bad year. Something to the tune of 200M+.

Toronto sports are so **** now that Ed owns everything. The dude is only 55 so we can't even look forward to him kicking the bucket any time soon. Unless he goes bankrupt or something (no chance the government would ever allow that), all we have are decades of misery to look forward to.

How would that be different than the pre-Ed era (other than way less money before being put into the baseball team)

If he has a bad year, he's not getting $500M deal. Why? Based on potential after 6 years in majors? 90% likely his career path will already be established then. Nobody paying that for a solid 1B.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

This won't end well for the Jays.... a massive OVERPAY, with crippling long term implications... They should have traded for assets...
