Why Eddie Jordan hates Brendan Haywood

Post#1 » by mhd » Fri Mar 21, 2025 9:49 pm

Longtime posters know we were all confused as to why Eddie hated Haywood despite the fact he was a much better player than Etan ever was. Gilbert tells the story why Eddie hated Brendan (and Brendan was right! Eddie sucked as a coach).

Why did Eddie George love Micheal Ruffin was the far bigger mystery

Haywood and Thomas both acted snobbish when they came to a basketball camp in Honolulu. Both seemed like unpleasant people.

Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry were much more approachable.

Kwame Brown was a very respectful kid. I gave Kwame a little pamphlet I carried (Norman Vincent Peale, excerpts from "The Power of Positive Thinking").

At that same camp, I got to meet a young Zach Randolph. I told him that some day he was going to be an All-Star.

Brendan Haywood? He still talks crap about Kwame. Seems like a douche to me, TBH.

P.S. I've spoken to Jimmy Carter, a military commanders to include generals. I've been in movies as an extra with A-list actors. None of them had attitudes. Len Bias had classes at UMCP that had me pass him. I was too nervous to speak. He spoke to me first. He was a friendly, down to earth dude.

Not to really badmouth Haywood. Obinna Ekezie was a douche squared.

Last, Bobby Simmons.

Spoke with him the day my Mom died. Bobbie Holmes (1932-2002). He was wearing a camp t-shirt with his name misspelled, "BOBBIE".

Haywood also had "hands of stone", Etan was tougher and finished better around the rim IIRC

Etan also wrote shtty poetry that we have to pretend is good for some reason:

I'd rather play video games and red light green light and peek a boo

I like to sing happy songs and skip rocks in ponds

But in the world of grown ups

Unsafe sex causes viruses to be passed liked batons

Child molesters caught on tape can avoid convictions

And continue making platinum selling records

Good story. I couldn’t stand Etan and that contract was crippling, a real cap killer. 6 years. EG was such idiot for matching Milwaukee's deal. Haywood may be a prick as well, but i think he'd do better than Gooden as the broadcast color commentator.

Etan was horrendous. Had zero offensive ability and it was idiotic to match the deal with Bucks. Haywood was the only reason the defense was at least passable despite Eddie Jordan's asinine schemes. Heck, according to that clip, Haywood should have been the player-coach! Eddie had zero success as a coach after the Wizards with his stints in Philly and Rutgers.

I got the impression that Haywood was an annoying know-it-all in the locker room, but he was also a really good player who understood the game very well and communicated defensively with his teammates. It was criminal how Eddie Jordan limited his minutes when the team was demonstrably so much better when he was on the floor.

Never said he was good, but there were times that Wood was a very frustrating player, and Eddie subbed him out.

True. I think he's a prick, but IMO, he's engaging and good as a color commentatot.

Brendan was much better defensively. Etan had some offense. Regardless, he was not worthy of the minutes EJ played him.

Looking back, "Eddie Smalls" had fairly good success playing Ruffin or Songaila at C.

Eddie Jordan didn't understand defense at all. All he cared about was offense and Etan was slightly better at it. Well, now I'm excited to watch the clip.

I remember the running joke was that Haywood was sleeping with EJ's wife.

EJ cost us a ton of game by not playing Haywood for his defense alone. Thomas for whatever "highlight" dunks he gave here and there, was a sieve on defense, on a roster not known for it's defense in the first place. I think the team could have peaked 5-6 wins higher had EJ played Haywood more. He had a decent little hook shot too if he was given the ball in the right spot (definitely didn't have the best hands), so it wasn't like Ruffin on offense (who also used to take minutes away from Haywood).

Eddie was okay.

He was in line to be East All-Star coach before injuries ravaged the Arenas/Hughes led team. Washington did him dirty, firing him the season after he made the playoffs with Daniels and Stevenson as his backcourt. Jordan was starting McGee and other young bigs after Haywood was injured. Flip Saunders inherited the same roster and won 15-20 less games.

Eddie Jordan was a good offensive coach and an absolutely wretched defensive coach. He was much better than Suabders and Lynam.

I would only rate Randy Wittman as a better Wizards coach in recent memory.

Because he loved Ruffin’s ability to throw the ball high in the air.
