I'm sure AK is going to try, atleast I hope he does. I'd give them whatever they want EXCEPT for Coby White. Coby & Zion would wreck sh** especially THIS version of subzero.

Coby would need to be included if you want a chance at Zion.

Losing Coby doesn't kill the value. We'd have to re-sign Coby in the summer anyway, so we'll save that cap space. Huerter, Collins, Carter all come off next year so we'll have plenty of space to add a star to Giddey, Matas, Zion summer 2026.

Zion played 70 games last year. We don't even need him healthy for 2025, lol. Just be healthy for 2026 and 2027. :)

Yeah, I figured. That’s the sad part about it.

There is nothing figured out here but a system of play. We have Z E R O stars and I love the young players here.

That's exactly my point.

Bringing Zion to Chicago does nothing but bring a allstar player (if healthy) to a team of nobodies, what would be the point? You'd be trading out young players and FRPs to bring in Zion with no support around him whatsoever.

Dude will have another injury sooner or later, whether that's in New Orleans or Chicago or anywhere else for that matter.

Zero interest in Zion.

I don’t see why stars wouldn’t have interest in playing with Zion IN Chicago. If you build it, they will come.

Zion is Chicago is box office.

Zion in street clothes advertising.

You'd likely have to give up both Coby and Matas for the Pels to be interested.

'Stars' would only be playing with Zion for 50% of the season, at best.

Giddey and Zion won't be super appealing to other stars to come to a cold windy city.
Here to argue about nonsensical things and suck away your joy. :kissmybutt:

I'm trying to see if this is serious or if this is trolling? The dream of NBA teams is to have two top 10 talents on the team. We haven't had 1 in a very long time. The opportunities to add a top 10 talent are rare in the first place. When that player is 23, the cost is insane. He's a 23 year old who's instantly the best player on the team, locked up for years. 'We don't have to hope to luck up in the draft years down the line to have a top NBA player, we actually have one. Doesn't matter if he fits with the current players, he's a legit star to build around. I think he fits great with our lineup anyway, especially since we'll have the cash to get a shooter to start and space the flooring. Yeah, you're taking a chance, it's called the NBA. You're taking a chance tanking an entire season to get somebody half as talented as Zion. I'd bet the odds of any draft pick after two, or even the first two, being as good as Zion are lower than the odds he averages 60+ games the next three years.

What other player in the top 10-15 could we possibly add? That's under 30? This is like debating if you want Embid at 23, knowing his injury history. You take him. He's always tradeable, if you decide to move on.

Getting rid of him ASAP means attaching a first.

No it doesn't, we'd be able to swap for an equally crap contract but hopefully for a player that actually gives a crap but is just overpaid.

4 more years at 18M for a replacement level player. Swapping someone who's overpaid and terrible for someone who's just overpaid. Good luck with that.

Add in Derozan, All Star, who's a star who chose us in free agency, and re-signed
Ball, a near star who chose us in free agency, and re-signed
Vucevic, an All Star who was extremely happy to be traded here, and re-signed
Wasn't Zach , All Star, an unrestricted free agent when he signed his last contract to stay here?

DeRozan and LaVine, the very same stars you mentioned and I'm sure if Vuc had a choice he'd be on another team also.

Ball is not a 'near star', he's a very good role player that has had his own injury issues.

All these stars the Bulls have had over the last 3 years and all they could manage was a 1st round exit and two 2nd round play-in exits.

Vucevic re-signed. So did Zach. They very easily could have been on other teams. Derozan signed as a free agent. Ball got a $20 mill AAV contract, split hairs all you want, he's a valued free agent. The argument was stars don't want to play here. Regardless of results, Zach, Demar and Vucevic could all easily have not been here and decided of their own free will to stay here. They all hit free agency and choose the Bulls. You might not like the stars we have, but those stars chose us too. Vets come here. Pat Beverly, Andre Drummond. Caruso came from California.

The greatest players of our generation, from Tim Duncan to Kobe Bryant even Lebron James have been involved in "To the Bulls" discussions. Those moves never stopped because the player didn't want to come to Chicago. They would have been shut down from the jump. They just got more of what they wanted elsewhere, usually at home.

Of course Vuc and Zach resigned, Chicago offered them more money than any other team, hell, Zach tried to leave to Sacramento when he signed that offer sheet.

DeRozan 'signed' in Chicago because they offered by far the most money, by all accounts he was going to sign in Los Angeles if the Bulls didn't throw money bags at him.

Not sure what your point is for Lonzo and his contract he 'signed', buy I'm not splitting hairs, Lonzo is not and has never been a star.

Tim Duncan was never in conversations to join the Bulls, it was Orlando or San Antonio for him, the Bulls just had the money to try and sign him. The Bulls couldn't even get Eddie Jones to come to Chicago, he chose Miami. Kobe and LeBron just used the Bulls as pawns to get what they wanted, LeBron was never coming to Chicago. What's the point in naming player who 'may' have come to Chicago? They didn't. Which is exactly my point.

Teams resigning with the team that can give them the most money isn't the same as a team clearing capspace and signing a star or trading for a star that wants to come to that city.

I'm feeling generous so I'll give you DeMar DeRozan, but the list is super bleak after that.

Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't Zach an unrestricted free agent the last contract he signed with us?

Of course there are several states that have huge advantages over us. Florida, California, Texas. Warm weather. Some have no state tax, that's a lot of money on big contracts. New York and Boston because they're New York and Boston. Those teams are attractive because those teams are attractive, not because the Bulls are unattractive. They're almost always going to be the first choice for the hottest free agents. No, we're not likely to get the top FA if one of those teams are competing but we could. Sometimes we end up with the second or third best free agent like Boozer or Derozan. But that's way different than players don't want to come to Chicago. Top tier free agents typically have multiple good choices.

Saying those guys signed because that's who paid the most money, well that's what usually happens. The only time a player leaves a team for less money is if they don't want to be on the team. Which was the whole argument. Clearly they didn't not want to be on the team enough to, you know, not be on the team. So who's left the team to take less money because they didn't want to be here? Ben Gordon? Are we saying players don't want to play for the Bulls unless they get paid a lot of money?

To be fair, I never actually said that stars will never want to come to Chicago, I said that Zion and Giddey wouldn't be overly appealing to any star that may be on the market.

It was the other guy that twisted my words to say that no stars would want to come to Chicago. But history shows that when the Bulls have had opportunities to add a star player or multiple star players, they've always chose to sign elsewhere rather than Chicago.

The 2 most notable FA stars, Boozer and Derozan, chose Chicago because they offered the most money, not because they were their first option.

Like I said it's kind of understandable. It's like being the 7th-8th hottest model out of 30 at a party with 1-10 handsome, rich guys. Only one or two extremely rich and handsome each party, once a year. You're rarely going to get guy #1 or 2, but you might luck up and get #4 or #5. Gotta keep taking your shot at the party next year. Might get #6 and he turns out to be #1.

But you're still hot. :)

Of course Vuc and Zach resigned, Chicago offered them more money than any other team, he'll, Zach tried to leave to Sacramento when he signed that offer sheet.

DeRozan 'signed' in Chicago because they offered by far the most money, by all accounts he was going to sign in Los Angeles if the Bulls didn't throw money bags at him.

Gotta mostly agree here. We had money and were gunning for T-Mac, Duncan, Jones , etc. We ended up with Ron Mercer. Hell, even Glen Rice backed out of an agreement that summer!
We wanted LeBron/Wade, or LeBron/Bosh, or Wade/Bosh, we got Carlos Boozer.
We went all in for Melo, got snubbed.
Prime Dwight Howard wanted out of Orlando, but did not want to come here despite us having a good team.

The best FA signing was Gasol. He gave us 2 very good seasons for half the price that we had previously paid Boozer. A washed up Wade came because we gave him a "Thank you for your services" contract... For services that he provided for a rival team :-?

Lonzo probably would have been a very good one, but due to injuries we'll never know for sure.

Combine all that with the fact that nowerdays, prime superstars like 2010 almost never even hit free agency anymore. 2019 was the last time there were really notable star free agents that were jumping ships. Getting prime , superstar free agents just isn't a realistic plan these days. Most just re-sign then later get traded.

Wouldn't surprise me though if AD were to "come home" in a very Wade style signing.

As for Zion, it's a lateral move at best if we're trading Coby and Buzelis for him. Won't be any better than what the pelicans have been the last 6 years.
