If the 76ers miss out on a top 6 pick, what would the off-season look like there?

That pick would go to OKC in that case?

Yes because OKC desperately needs more young talent.

Needs has nothing to do with it.

Making sure I understand OPs premise.

If the pick falls to 7th, I assume Joel sits out the year and the team tanks like Hinkie right? Would try to keep some depth but would duck the tax.

I think you sit PG next to Joel in the stands as much as he’s willing next season? Hopefully both have surgeries to extend their careers.

And hope a full year off is enough to get a good two years out of Joel/PG? Maxey, McCain, “Boozer” is your young core and could be strong?

Assuming McCain looks good and the 2026 pick has a strong rookie year, Joel’s surgery was successful - you maybe look at finding an actual star once Paul George is an expiring? The Clipper pick/swap should add a lot of value by then.

But next season should just be a write off season if they don’t keep their pick.

and if none of that works out (draft a bust in 2026, PG/Joel stay injured-broken) you maybe look at Maxey trades when he has 1.5 years left on his deal.

I'm not really sure what you can do at that point. Embiid is probably going to miss most (if not all) of the season. PG might improve on the margins, but he's still going to be an injury-prone, past-his-prime guy.

Give Maxey and McCain as much responsibility as they can handle, don't necessarily tank but don't try too hard to push for a play-in spot, and go into 26-27 with Embiid and PG as close to fully healthy as they can get at this point in their careers plus Maxey, McCain, and a 2026 lottery pick

Basically run with the younger guys - stop signing Lowry and Gordon -types and aim for the Yabusele's and hungry prospect players on the fringes to cover the injury issues they have with their two highest paid players.

Obviously. Kenrich is getting up there in age.

Kick the tires on if there's any interest in Paul George around the league (actual interest - not give up assets to get off his deal interest)

Other than that? Try to re-sign some guys, see if you can get healthy, and let things play out.

Until there's a clear picture on what the strategy with Embiid is gonna be and how his body reacts, I think they're in a standstill. And even after that, there's only so much they can do with their cap situation. You're not pushing chips in to try to compete with the question marks. And there's not much to sell off in the event of a rebuild.

This would be a good timeline imo

But if they have cleared the obligation I think they look hard at a real tank. Maybe Morey goes the other way.

If OKC gets the pick, I demand the NBA replace Presti with a Colangelo for processing his way to where they are now in terms of young talent/future assets!

You’re welcome for Maxey. It’s even.

What about Grimes in this situation? Keep all three guards and roll with it?

That's likely the case in any scenario unless someone wants to give them something good in a S&T
