More of this

Kolek is very good at hitting the shooter in perfect stride. It's not as easy as it looks. It's the equivalent of getting the shooter an open shot.

Yes, that's what I was saying earlier about delivering the ball to guys in rhythm. It increases the likelihood they will convert.

He's not flashy, just effective. And the other players love getting the ball when they're ready to shoot or in stride.

I would have liked to see Kolek look for his shot or floater a little more but understandably he doesn’t get many opportunities and was looking to take a back seat and focus on managing the game and distributing and not taking too many shots from other rotation players. But when his confidence gets a bit higher he should be a good offensive player especially if he reliably hits the 3 ball. He could be a long term option as Brunson’s backup and the team may have that kind of McBride type on trajectory for him in mind since we signed him on a cheap deal until 2028.

Brunson and McBride in the SL
Payne and Kolek off the bench

Issues fixed and solved…

Brunson / Payne
McBride / Kolek
Beidges / Hart
Anunoby / one of Achiuwa, Warren or Dadiet (or even Shamet)
Towns / Robinson

Deuce is having an underwhelming season. I wouldn't reward from a starting position.

Easy game like the Mavs, should experiment and try this.

Kolek/Payne
Deuce/Dadiet
Mikal/Josh
OG/Josh

I agree with the lineup, but Dallas will be a difficult opponent for the Knicks. They are coming off a win against the Pistons and nearly got passed Indiana the other day.

Deuce is out for a couple of games. We're going to see the same rotation as we did the last game. Shamet has to be playing himself out of the rotation, right? ... right?

Mikal specifically asked for Shamet by name to play more

Kolek is going to get some minutes with Brunson and now McBride out and maybe also down the stretch if we can rest players. But he’s not sniffing the court in the playoffs and is will remain behind Brunson MvBride Payne Shamet on the depth chart at least for this season.

While that is certainly true, the interesting aspect of this will be to find out at what level Kolek can perform. One point of contention towards Thibs throughout the season has been his lack of bench development. If Thibs is right and the bench simply lacked quality and the rookies weren't playable, then we should now witness Payne outplaying Kolek by some margin at least. If they are on the same level, let alone Kolek outplaying him, then that would raise some further difficult questions towards Thibs.....

Note: In 64games Payne had a single 8assist game and a single 9assist game (against Utah playing 36 minutes as a starter).....

he was injured and is playing with non shooting non passing non dribbling second unit… swapping him with Hart and inserting Kolek plus another shooter/scorer would do wonders for both units

We definitely will hear it from Kolek's detractors the day he has a bad game.

I just read that Kolek had the most assists in a half for the Knicks since 2007. Impressive!

Is it b/c you think they kind of bought into their own hype instead of that hunger you know you have to see with contenders?

He also made a useless historical stat line. No player in NBA history ever had 7ast 3stl +15 in the second quarter. Something weird like that. Also... doesn't Brunson have a 17 assist game this year? He had to get at least 7-8 assists in a half twice in that game. Something isn't adding up.

When Kolek takes Brunson's job away from him you might have to change your name back to Are We There Yet.
