Lets win a title this season then we can think about tax... :)

It would be great if we could bring back all the main guys for another season... After next Porzingis contract will be up, so there is more breathing room.

I guess Jrue is the guy to trade if you want to get out of tax. Problem is you need to find a team with cap space or maybe a team with a big contract with team option which you could decline...

Jack Simone

2 Celtics who are on the trade block after new admission of reality

Jrue Holiday
Perhaps the most obvious of the bunch, Jrue Holiday could very well be looking at his last playoff run in Boston this year.

Set to make $32.4 million next season (and with two more years on his contract after that at an increasing rate), trading Holiday would do wonders for Boston’s luxury tax problems, should they find the right deal.

Kristaps Porzingis
If the Celtics want to keep the best defensive backcourt in the NBA in tact, then they could instead look to trade Kristaps Porzingis.

The Latvian big man will make $30.7 million next season, so trading his contract would achieve virtually the same goals as trading Holiday’s would.

Trading Tatum or Brown doesn't make much sense, as they are the pillars of the organization, and White's age and skill set make him the ideal fit alongside those two guys. That leaves Holiday or Porzingis as the odd man out.

https://hardwoodhoudini.com/boston-celtics-trade-rumors-block-jrue-holiday-kristaps-porzingis-after-new-admission-reality-second-apron-cba-wyc-grousbeck

me: If Brad Stevens makes a trade, it'll be with an eye towards keeping the Celtics competitive for future titles. Depending on trading partners, it's possible a deal for Brown might appear which could accomplish this. Holiday, Porzingis, and Brown seem most likely. Tatum definitely no. White very little chance. There are no other options to get under the apron.

Maybe this can be put off one more year though.

First, I think they’d try to keep both Jays, all NBA forwards with a chance to play their entire careers for the Celtics — a modern day Bird & McHale. However, Jaylen just makes so much it just may not be possible … but I think the first priority will be, if possible, keep Tatum and Brown.

KP is expiring $30 million. He’d probably be movable into capspace. Jrue has 3yrs left after this at a big number. He’d probably cost 1-3 first round picks to deal.

Derrick has four years left after this and would probably bring us a first, multiple seconds or even two firsts if we traded him.

If we trade Derrick for draft capital in 2028 or 2029 drafts and keep Jrue 2 more years well have a big Holiday expiring contract and extra draft picks to make a move in a couple of years…

We have already traded 2029 1st. If we have to attach a 2027 and 2031 1sts to move Jrue, we run the risk of becoming the Giannis bucks when Tatum is 29/30 and we have very few picks left to construct a team.

So Jrue considering age/decline may seem most likely to go, I’m not sure it will be him.

Chatgpt could probably translate it for you.

I'll slow it down for you. If they don't win championships, ownership will not get away with gutting the team.

No one says **** if you're winning. But if you're not winning, ownership is not gonna hear the end of how they took a championship roster and tore it apart over money.

Everyone got fat off one championship it seems and is all too happy to shed a contract when in reality everyone and their mother should accept nothing less than total commitment from our billionaire owner.

Chisholm, through Wyc, is already laying the groundwork for cutting payroll for 'basketball penalties.'

You're rooting for fan pressure to keep him from doing that, but it's likely what's happening, regardless of how many titles have been or might be won, and he'll 'get away with it', unless you and others are picking up pitchforks and torches. Happens all the time.

I would guess that most team's fans don't like their owners, especially for this reason -- but how many owners in any sport have ever sold due to fan displeasure -- almost none?

There will be teams who are well below the 1st apron that can take on salary. About half the teams can absorb 30+mil to stay under the 2nd apron. But for some teams who have spots to fill, adding a large salary and then having to fill a roster may be a problem.

Cs will also be competing with other teams that are likely to offload/trade their big-salaried guys. KD the biggest name being floated out there. There’s only so much collective space available among the 30 teams to absorb unwanted salary (in multiple-team trades) and not all teams with cap space are willing to use said space as dumping ground. Warriors did a decent job getting rid of their biggish salaries to “reset” for Curry’s last hurrah.

Anyway, Brad’s the man. I trust him to do the right thing.

KP/Jrue/Sam for Durant does that save enough money to get out of the tax? Lol. White/Brown/Tatum/Durant/KAl Qaeta

Trading KP does nothing for us this summer or letting him expire next season because both supermax contracts will be active for us.
JT/JB/Jrue/DWhite will make 180 mil together.
This summer could get brutal if we dont win chip.We could lose half of the rotation. Could lose 2/3 of our starting/rotation centers.
Prob Jrue and Sam.
Someone said that Sam counts like 90 mil against our salary with all that 2 apron.
Even if we lose does players with what we replace them because our salary cap will be hell with or without them.

It's not a good investment to turn a championship team into a playoff team that never gets over the hump.

Before you know it the Celtics will be the bruins or red Sox and we know how people feel about those owners.

A few important points on Brown that have been mentioned:

1. Not talent, but Brown is maybe the easiest to replace in terms of "role"

2. Trading Brown is likely the only option that gets you some level of talent in return and not just a straight dump.

3. As such, trading Brown may also be the only deal in which Brad wouldn't have to attach draft capital just to get a team to take it. If roster construction flexibility is as big a concern as they say it is, this point probably shouldn't be overlooked.

EDIT: For example, JB for Zion and Kelly O works. Just sayin.

That'd be a terrible return for Brown.

If you're not a fan, I won't blame you. FWIW, where I was going is that Zion is a 24 year old player still with a ton of potential to be more. He's lost a bit of weight and has begun playing better this season even if still being managed by NOLA. He's one of the few players who's an even better finisher in the paint than JB. He's athletic. He would punish mismatches and kill defenders on rotation. Our team could offer him the kind of space that would allow him to flourish under a clear hierarchy. And like JB, questionable perimeter shot that needs improveThis trade would save money though, and bring back a player whose best we have not seen. Again, it's an idea and one that understand comes with some warts. I'd still consider it if it came to it though.

White or Holiday are the easiest to replace. Pritchard is on the roster already on an extremely team friendly contract.

Trading White would bring something back. Porzingis probably gets you some sort of asset in return as well. 30 mil isn’t bad for a 2 way center when other guys are making 50.

I disagree on those two, especially White. His contract for what he provides this team IMO is just too difficult to replace. Holiday has been the QB of our defense and his versatility unlocks our ability to switch and recover. He has more value here than he does elsewhere as his contract is long but as a guy who's averaging like 11/4 or whatever at pedestrian shooting numbers at age 34 I don't see a ton of interest or willingness to take him unless we dump a few picks in a deal.

KP has missed as many games as he's played in 2 seasons if not more. We could move him if a team was trying to get off a longer deal. His strength beyond what he does in our offense and defense is that he has only one year left on his deal. Honestly, if we're looking to cut salary, moving him makes the LEAST amount of sense after this season. We want to move longer deals not shorter ones. That's Hauser. That's Jrue, and that's unfortunately JB.

A caspace team, Im thinking Brooklyn, would have interest in taking KP into capspace for nothing. Then Brooklyn puts KP on ice like OKC did with Al Horford. Then at the deadline you've got teams wanting to make a run whod love a two month rental of KP with the chance to extend using his bird rights.

Imagine LAL. The Lakers will have $25 million in expiring contracts at the deadline. Theyll have a tradeable 1st and Dalton Knecht... Why wouldnt they want KP? Or any number of teams, really.

I think a capspace team for sure would take KP for nothing for the chance to cash him in at the deadline, imo ... But for us, moving off a multi-year commitment would be more beneficial, I agree. Im just saying I think we could move KP if it came to that.

I don't enjoy the way pags is tearing down walls on the way out just because he didn't get his way.

Wether all this is true or not it's obvious that this is coming from pags camp.

Lines up my earlier estimate that Chisholm is in for $500M at the outset.

When the Symphony Tech Group was mentioned as a finalist I figured it would be Romesh Wadhwani, he was the real money guy out of that group. 5bil net worth.

Not great IMO that the largest single investor is essentially a professional sports team PE firm. They're putting in twice what Chisholm apparently is, so he's a front man like Wyc, but without the leverage of Dad's money behind him.

Yeah, he apparently thinks it could be pulled down, and there are still several months before the formal league approval and all, but it comes across as sour grapes that would presumably only make Wyc want to dig in for anyone-but-Pags.

Chisholm’s much better option, local guy, prob not that much less $ and I’m pretty skeptical of Wadhwani, dudes on the board of the Kennedy center so we’d be stuck w drag shows at half time.
