The Magic replace defense with better offense
The issue that the Magic have on offense are well Documented. They are terrible on that side of the ball. It's clear they need playmaking and shooting to help this offense. This is where Anfernee Simons and the Blazers come in at.
Magic Out: KCP,Wendell Carter Jr + Anthony Black + Magic 1st round pick this year(lets the pick is the 11 pick),Nuggets pick this year(lets say that pick is the 26th pick)
Magic in: Anfernee Simons
Blazers out: Anfernee Simons
Blazers in: KCP,Anthony Black, 11th and 26th picks in the draft
Why the Magic do this? They need to improve on their offense to have any chance of contending and Anfernee Simons is good enough on offense to make a huge difference. He brings playmaking and efficient scoring to the table.
Why the Blazers do this: They will very likely have a lottery pick this year, so with this trade, they would be given another shot to hit on a late lottery pick. They would also get a late 1st round in order get another cost controlled player. Anthony Black has also shown a lot of potential as a defender. If he figures it out on offense, this could be amazing value for the Blazers.

Re: The Magic replace defense with better offense
I think this would be great for both teams in principle but too expensive for ORL.
Can’t see ORL moving a lotto pick and AB for Simons, maybe not either.

This is really rich for Orlando. They could add 1 additional 1st and be in the hunt for an actual difference maker.

I'd be happy with AB + 26 for Simons

I view KCP as a negative value contract, I'm taking that into account into the amount far as the amount of assets the Magic would need give up. Maybe that contract isn't as big of problem as I thought. Maybe removing the Nuggets pick and Anthony Black and keep the lottery pick would make this less rich for the Magic? Or likewise with removing the lottery pick and keep the Nuggets pick and Anthony Black?

Id happily do KCP and the Denver first for Sexton who is cheaper and just as good as Simons, perhaps better.

This looks very good for Orlando as just getting off of KCP's deal for an EC feels worth the Denver pick, ignoring any on-court value of Sexton.

Re: The Magic replace defense with better offense
How about Wendell Carter? POR has multiple Centers but none of them can play together. Clingan is the future and Ayton is an expiring $36m. WCJ can backup C and play PF by switching on the perimeter and spreading the floor. He’s had a down year offensively, but literally everyone on ORL is shooting career lows- so I’d like to believe it’s situational. WCJ is still very young and his versatility makes him a more usable player on a reasonable deal…ORL could take back RWIII as well, who makes more sense as their backup to Goga, or possibly even start between Paolo & Franz. Simons & RWIII are both expiring, so ORL would likely want extensions agreed to- especially in Simons’ case, likely for less than current salary.
POR sends: Simons, Time Lord
ORL sends: KCP, WCJ, Black, Den frp (#25)

This was my first reaction as well.
This is a really good draft to be giving up two picks…one a lotto.
And IDK, Black may have more value than Simmons given the rookie contract, age, upside and defense.

I think if Orlando really wants Simmons, and doesn’t mind trading Black. They don’t need to add any picks. Black and KCP straight up gets it down no problem.

Both WCJ and KCP have stunk it up this year. I could see POR eating one as part of a package but not both.

Hmm...this is an obvious buy-low for Portland for two players who have historically been positive players. Simons and Timelord aren't long-term building blocks for Portland.
This is a no-brainer for Portland.

I like this here. Feels like a balance between the Blazers getting real value without the Magic paying a rich price. Based on the comments, very likely I went too far with including the Lottery pick along with the Nuggets pick and Anthony Black. Far as Simons next contract, I would think 20-25 million dollars per year would be reasonable. He's far better than the Gary Trent Jr, Tyus Jones Grayson Allen, D'Angelo Russell level players, but not quite a all star level player.

Re: The Magic replace defense with better offense
I get Portland not wanting to eat a bunch of bad salary, but some of these evaluations on Simons seem widely unrealistic given the fact that it's difficult to see a team other than the Magic trading for him and they'll have options other than Simons. He's a solid bench player who is paid too much.
Also, when you look at Portland's roster, you have a bunch of expensive why-are-they-still-here guys. If teams are asking to be compensated, or are only offering bad contracts, for guys like Grant, Simons, Ayton, Timelord, and Thybulle, I get it, but based on reporting, the Blazers front office believes they're all assets. This is now the third offseason in a row, in the middle of a rebuild, where they have zero cap space to offer or use. That's an L and a fireable one IMO.

Re: The Magic replace defense with better offense
Ive never really given much thought about this, but the two players are crazy similar.babyjax13 wrote:Id happily do KCP and the Denver first for Sexton who is cheaper and just as good as Simons, perhaps better.
Both picked in the same draft.
Both are the same age(separated by 5 months)
Both are 6'3
Both are 180-190lbs
Both shoot the same from three (.383/.387)
Both pass the same(3.2/3.7)
Its crazy really.

their stats may look similar but KCP and Sexton are very different players.
