There is nothing else to say besides Thibs sucks.

Maybe they should rename the forum to this, honestly

I feel like maybe we need to steal a coach away from a good team, because my true love, Kenny Atkinson, married the Cavs.

I think what many criticize is his lack of playing time despite Deuce missing multiple games earlier in the season and after JB went down. Brunson averages like 35minutes a game while Deuce plays like 25min.....any time either of them misses games, there should automatically be 15minutes available for Kolek. Keep in mind Shamet missed like the first 3 months of the season as well. Really there is no excuse for Kolek having played so litte when literally all our backcourt guys except Payne missed some major time. But for the time being I'll reserve some judgment....but am eager to find out what Kolek can do the upcoming games....

Payne missed 6-7 games early on. Shamet missed months at the same time. Deuce missed 10-15 games in there. There were plenty of opportunities to play the kid. Thibs chose to ride his starters instead. Go figure.

It's good to see positive impact from Kolek. Hopefully he grows from this and earns his way into the rotation. I am getting tired of typing about Thibs honestly. I am trying to just root for the team in spite of my issues with the orc faced penguin.

I checked the box score of the 6 games that both Payne and Shamet missed. With Brunson and Deuce healthy. And Kolek did in fact play in all 6 games. Although the minutes were pretty limited. He played 17 mins in one of them. But there was one game he only played a minute of garbage time so maybe could have been used more in that one. But they went with a bigger lineup.

If Payne is out, they will play Brunson/Mikal Deuce/Shamet
If Shamet is out, they will play Brunson/Mikal Payne/Deuce
If Brunson is out, we saw they will play Deuce/Mikal Payne/Shamet.

There was a game against Utah that both Brunson and Deuce missed. Payne started with Kolek/Shamet off the bench and we won. Now we are seeing that again with the last game.

So there’s some sort of method to the madness and in that method we need 2 players injured for him to crack the rotation

I can understand not playing Kolek if Shamet or Deuce are out since it may be difficult to play him next to Brunson and Payne but if either of the Brunson or Payne are out or even in the games where Thibs decided to bench Payne in the 2nd half why not give Kolek a chance? I honestly don't know why he hasn't been playing since Brunson went out as Deuce isn't great as a point guard imo and the team hasn't been playing great in many of those games.

Earlier in the season he could have been playing Kolek more also. For example in a game that Knicks won by 24 with Payne, Shamet and Mitch out against the Hornets missing Ball and Miles Bridges Thibs basically ran 7 man rotation with Hart, KAT and OG playing 38-40 minutes and Mikal playing the first 46:30 of the game and Kolek coming in for the last 1:30 in early Decmber. That is complete insanity by the coach. I wouldn't have blamed Mikal if he held an emergency press conference trashing Thibs immediately after the game :D

Kolek would have to really ball out over the next few games to be considered over Cam on the depth chart. Otherwise he will be back on the bench when Brunson and Deuce get back.

And who knows if any of these rookies will be on the team next year.

Yeah. I'm on board. I expect to see some struggles from the kid but, it would be sweet to watch him have a couple of really big games while he has the opportunity. We have 12 games left. How many will he even play in? A smart HC would rest Deuce until he is %100 which he hasn't really appeared to have been all year. In and out of the rotation with injuries all season. Let Payne/Kolek run the team the next few games. It's almost like he has no choice but, we know what other choice usually gets made around here.

Just promote Thibs to VP Of Signing Washed Up Vets and he can fill out the end of the roster with Taj Gibson, PJ Tucker, Herb Williams and Nicolas Batum.

Then hire a coach that understands offense

robillionaire wrote:One takeaway I have from all this is that McBride shouldn’t be starting especially not at PG. He is ok backup PG and maybe better as a backup off the ball. But I haven’t enjoyed how the team plays when he’s had opportunities to start at PG over the past couple years. Maybe Thibs made a mistake and should have started Payne and had Deuce off the bench in the past several games.

I would consider Deuce a SG who only facilitates in the absence of an actual PG.

He would pair well with Kolek as the lead guard as the second unit backcourt.

Should Kolek start over Payne? That way we can showcase Kolek for a trade over the summer.

Why would you assume he should be traded?

High quality PGs are not exactly plentiful.

Lots of teams don't even have one good one.

Brunson backed up by Kolek is what it should have been from day one. He is way better than Payne.
