Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
Queen 2/3 from 3 today. Was 2/4 from 3 against Mich in the conference championship.
Downside? Maryland is 0-2 when Queen hits a three. They're down 7 at half.
Speaking of being down to Colorado St, if they win this game it'll assuredly be because Nique Clifford went off. If that comes to pass, he's going to sneak into the top 20 in the draft.

His handle, I'll say it again is just uncanny for someone that size.
Look at the fluidity of that iso at the top of the key at 0:55 or the footwork in the very next play.
His ability to guard at the next level is a major question but his versatility on offense might be the very best there is to offer in this class. He was already a good free throw shooter so it's exciting that he's adding threes into his repertoire.

OBPM: 4.7
DBPM: 4.5
STL%: 2.0
BLK%: 3.8
The total is better than Domantas Sabonis at Gonzaga. Better in almost every stats than Olympic gold winner Bam Adebayo. Dismiss him at your own peril. It's like dismissing Jokic because he's too unathletic coming into the league. Queen might not be a high flyer, but he possesses a similar BBIQ as Jokic and produces defensive stats. Top 3 two way player in this draft.

I know it isn't traveling the way games are called anymore, and Queen's first step will be described as a "gather" step, but it was hard to watch that and not immediately say "he traveled!". Not his fault, as kids are brought up being taught to create space that way, and it was a great, clutch shot, but c'mon now.
I'll return to yelling at a cloud now.

I wish there was somewhere to see Jokic's pre-NBA stats to compare.
I think Queen needs to play with another strong defender in the frontcourt that can protect the rim, switch the perimeter, and shoot 3's at volume on offense. In today's NBA you basically can't have 2 non-spacers in the lineup if you want to win.
The Sabonis archetype unfortunately is not good enough to be a contender without a complement like that.
Joker is different because he can space the floor on offense and his passing is otherworldly, basically a Point-Center. And even he needs strong defenders all around to contend.

Cedric Coward just made his debut in the Tankathon Mock going at #56 overall. Unfortunate last name aside, his stats look insane, albeit small sample size since he injured his shoulder.
6'6" 206 lbs. with a 7' wingspan apparently. Anyone got a scouting report on him? By the numbers he looks like a fantastic complement to our small guards.

Godly shooting touch and insanely hard to block shot release

Derik Queen: 6/31 3FG (19%), 76% FT
Anthony Davis (at UK): 3/20 3FG (15%) 71% FT
I'm not saying he's going to turn into AD as a shooter, but I think he'll be a decent shooter from outside once he hits the big league. He has the numbers, form, and willingness to become an outside shooter which will change his game big time.

Sabonis looks like a very good comp for Queen:

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
Queen is nice, and I would like him a lot more if we had a coach and GM who supported double-big lineups. Morey won’t even invest in a legit PF, so I can’t imagine him playing Queen next to Embiid. And if we somehow trade Embiid, it still doesn’t solve our sizzle.issue
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Barlow/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
If we’re running a double-big lineup with Embiid, that second big better be an absolute workhorse that can jump all over the court on defense. Embiid isn’t about to waste his last 965 jumps on rebounds and shot-blocking.
The energetic Yabusele even most times look unqualified.

Embiid doesn’t deserve to be factored in to any future plans.

Queen actually rebounds unlike Embiid.

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
yeah I am a giant Biid stan and hyper defender
his status no longer matters in terms of team building atm. If the BPA doesn't fit with him...too bad. Biid's presence is a nice bonus at this point..not something to rely on.
Sans Flagg and maybe Harper, I think most rookies will be for the future anyway and not the immediate season.

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft
What’s not to like about Maluach?
A 9’8” standing reach—that’s elite length that you dont need to jump much that would allow you to conserve the health of your knees. He’s mobile, athletic, and a capable shot-blocker. His shooting has serious upside, with solid 3pt point shooting in international play and 75% from the free-throw line.
He only started playing basketball in 2019, so he’s still relatively young and moves fluidly. His offense is far from a finished product and can still be developed.
He checks a lot of boxes for us. He could be Jojo’s replacement and immediately helps with our backup center problem. He might even fit alongside Jojo, spacing the floor while anchoring the defense and rebounding.
Maxey/McCain
Grimes/Council
Paul George/Justin Edwards
Yabusele/Oubre
Embiid/Maluach
And if Jojo isn’t playing, we can run a Cavs-style offense, with our guards leading the attack, surrounded by 3&D forwards and a lob threat at center.
I wasn’t high on him at first, but his numbers are really standing out now. I just found out he was a top-5 recruit in his high school class.
With Grimes emerging, I’m willing to take a chance on him and let go Tre Johnson and Kneuppel. After that, I’d want to go for a boom-or-bust prospect, and we’ve got three at our spot: Noa Essengue, Asa Newell, and Maluach. They’re the sought-after stretch-5, lob-threat, rim-protecting bigs that every team wants. Among them, Maluach looks like the best mix of low risk and high upside.
