I think doable as long as refs don’t start swallowing their whistles. Coby in particular is really forcing the issue. And he’s not flopping he’s just overpowering weaker guards. Same for Giddey, but it’s more his size than strength.
For the rest of the year i am sure its doable. Cant see it for a full season.
The change that Coby himself said he made recently is recognizing that it was easier for him to draw fouls and how to do it. He should just have read my posts. I said that he lacked the quickness and length to score inside and that his best chance was to improve his footwork a la Brunson. He's gone more Harden, but that works too. The reality is that focusing his role has made the game much simpler for him...when you get the ball, before you think about passing, see if there is a way for you to score. He's added a bevvy of really nifty moves in the paint to get defenders off balance before shooting...I don't know where those came from, but kudos to him.
Also our style has changed post ASG. Coby was getting into the paint all season, but he'd pass out. The one thing I agree with Stacey was that was insane that Coby & Giddey were getting right to the basket and passing up layups and close range shots to pass out to Julian Phillips to brick a 3. Because "shot profile." These days when Coby gets by his main into the paint, he can keep the ball & score the layup and it doesn't matter if Phillips is open or not.
We still fire a ton of 3s, we're 6th in attempts post ASG. But we were 2nd pre-ASG and looked like we wanted to be #1, but we forced up some lower quality 3s instead of taking layups or drawing fouls. Giving up some 3s we went from 30th in FTs to 22nd, that's more than worth it.
