Assuming Giannis asks to be traded

Post#1 » by mlloyd10 » Thu Mar 27, 2025 3:43 pm

Bucks will not trade Giannis unless he asks for it.

Giannis doesn't like the big city, so Bucks trade him to another small market, but spurs dont have enough so they get the Pelicans involved

Spurs get: Giannis / McCollum
Bucks get: Zion / Castle / 2025 Spurs 1st.
Pelicans get: Vassell / Johnson / ATL 2025 1st rd pick ( owned by Spurs )

Why Spurs - Very obvious - Giannis/Wemby/Fox would be on par with any big three
Why Bucks - Very tough trading Giannis, but take a chance on Zion, get a very nice PG in Castle and get a top 10 pick
Why Pelicans - Move on from Zion, get out of McCollum contact, get two very nice players and a 1st

Value seems legit but I think NO might want a bit more.

Giannis and to a lesser extent CJ immediately make SAS a contender - arguably the best team in the league IMO.

OP also assumes Zion + CJ = Giannis which is also crazy

Not at all? Castle >> CJ

Healthy Zion >> 2-3 late 1sts

I think you add in Sochan (Who isnt that great a 3rd big in terms of playstyle complimenting with Giannis and Victor anyways) to NO and SAS still has to do it.

Target a big like Guerschon who can floor stretch w/ the MLE, sign some ring chasers and go for NBA ready draft picks in 2025 - this team can win a ring -

G - DeAaron Fox / Chris Paul / Blake Wesley
G - CJ McCollum / Bruce Brown (BAE) / Nique Clifford (ATL FRP)
F - Harrison Barnes / Julian Champagnie / Nique Clifford (ATL FRP)
F - Giannis Antetokounmpo / Guerschon Yabusele / Sandro Mamukelashvili
C - Victor Wembyama / Giannis Antetokounmpo / Ryan Kalkbrenner (SAS SRP)

The bench is rough, but that starting lineup is dirty.

For the Milwaukee Bucks to trade Giannis they're going to need the ability to bump the bottom and some of their own draft picks back either from Portland OR from New Orleans

If your future is heavily mortgaged banking on Zion Williamson to take you to the promised land is making poor choices in my book

So you either pull the wheels off now and try and get the New Orleans owned Bucks pics somewhere in the exchange

Or you try and rag tag together a team to put on the field for a couple years and try and get the Portland owned bucks picks somehow in the trader

NO - gets Giannis, JGrant, (might include Oly for Portis center swap)
POR - gets Zion, McCollum, AReeves
MIL - gets Ayton expiring, Thybulle expiring, Matkovic cheap, picks
picks = 2029 (best of MIL/POR/BOS), 2028&2030 MIL/POR swap back, 2026 MIL/NO swap back, 2027 best of MIL/NO (top 4 protected),

POR:
Pg - Scoot, CJ
sg - Sharpe, Simons
sf - Avdija, Camara
pf - Zion, Murray
c - Clingan, RWilliams
plus - pick #10
Solid two deep lineup with potential.

NO
pg - Murray, Hawkins
sg - Murphy
sf - Herb
pf - Giannis, Grant
c - Missi, (Oly or Portis)
plus - top 5 pick
free agents that may resign - Alvarado, JAR, BBrown
- less depth but adds a reliable big hitter.

MIL - All picks back (with swaps in 2027&2029). All expiring or cheap contracts - except Kuzma and Lillard. Might be able to dump those depending. Team will suck but can rebuild and restart.

Could always bring back Lillard with Giannis - -
MIA gets Grant
POR gets Lillard, Giannis, Portis, Jaquez
MIL gets expirings (Rozier, Simons, Ayton, Thybulle, RWilliams - note that these guys actually have some re-trade value just not high end value); plus #10 from POR, #20 from MIA, 2029 (best of MIL/POR/BOS), 2028&2030 MIL/POR swap back

What did MIA ever do to you?

MIA isnt trading Rozier and a FRP for Grant - the value Jerami may have had last offseason has turned to ash with his poor play and his wildly long deal for a role player (Not to mention the size of the deal as well).

That being said - I sure as hell wouldnt turn down Giannis. PDX might have some intrigue to MIL as we own their 2029 FRP and 2 swaps. If they tank out and rebuild - those are tremendously valuable.

I would think PDX would dangle Sharpe. If NO is ready to move Zion - how is this value?

PDX OUT - DeAndre Ayton + Anfernee Simons + Robert Williams III + Shadeon Sharpe + 2025 PDX FRP + 2029 MIL FRP + 2028 & 2030 MIL FRP SWAPS (84.9)
PDX IN - Giannis + Pat Connaughton (66M)

NO OUT - Zion Williamson (39.4M)
NO IN - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope + Shadeon Sharpe + Mo Wagner + 2025 PDX FRP + 2025 DEN FRP (41M)

MIL OUT - Giannis + Pat Connaughton (66M)
MIL IN - Zion Williamson + DeAndre Ayton + 2029 MIL FRP + 2028 & 2030 MIL FRP SWAPS (74.9)

ORL OUT - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope + Mo Wagner + 2025 DEN FRP (32.6M)
ORL IN - Anfernee Simons

PDX immediately is a contender IMO assuming Deni is for real and Scoot keeps developing -

G - Scoot Henderson / MLE
G - Toumani Camara / Matisse Thybulle
F - Deni Avdija / Jerami Grant / Kris Murray / Rayan Rupert
F - Giannis / Jerami Grant
C - Donovan Clingan / Giannis / Duop Reath

That really checks a lot of boxes vets with youth shooting defense distribution positional versatility and lots of length all the way around

All of these ideas are hilariously terrible. Giannis would probably get the largest trade return in history if they moved him this summer.

Mobley and Garland for Giannis and Kuzma if the gap between Cleveland and Boston is wide after the ECF.

OKC should send Hartenstein, JDubb, filler and a few picks for Giannis if he's available and this happens

If Clingan and the MIL picks were to go to MIL for Mobley that would work.
