Gary Payton II Out Indefinitely With Torn Ligament In Thumb

Post#1 » by Twinkie defense » Thu Mar 27, 2025 9:50 pm

Oh no. This is a big blow to the Warriors' playoff prospects, especially with how well GPII has been shooting the ball lately.

The do-it-all swingman has averaged 10.4 points and shot 65% from the field and 50% on 3s over his past 16 games this season.

The injury is to his shooting hand.

Not his fault, but the Warriors cannot afford ANY injuries to rotation players right now. I was feeling pretty good about them before the last 2 games, but things have turned quickly. At this point it's looking like they need to start thinking about moves for next year. Not over yet, but our 3 best players are old, need rest, and get tired. The rest of the guys all show some promise here and there but are mostly one-dimensional and way too inconsistent for a playoff run.

Addition by subtraction; its time for JK to grow up and eat the GP role.

This could be one of those fork in the road moments for jk. Will he do what the team needs or will he do what he thinks he needs?

It has rarely been about winning games with Kuminga. Especially now.

Right on cue. As always. Mysterious, unexplainable, and when you need him the most. Cut his ass.

Love GP2 but it's almost expected he'll be injured again and unavailable for the playoffs.

You think it's a plus to lose Payton? And GP2 is energy and defense. Kind of the opposite of JK. Santos might be the closest to filling that role, at least he has the energy, if not quite the equal on defense.

If GP isnt good for the playoffs then the team wont advance. They dont have a margin for error or injury.

Or pray for a Houston match up in the playoffs. They are the only team where having a lockdown defender isn't as necessary.

What's worse than bad? Terrible? Pathetic?

Pound that rock, JK. You're the creator the Warriors have been missing (yeah, right).

Meh, GPII is 10x the basketball player that Jonathan Kuminga is.

Kuminga already probably expects he is worth 10x and paid like this.

Let’s not be ridiculous. 4x, surely. But 10x? He’s no Banchero.

Weird to see warriors fans root against one of their own. I mean, I may not like Podz but i'm not telling him to keep taking that running hook. I'm just hoping he gets better on the C&S and finishing inside.
