Re: Josh Giddey - Conundrum Killer
Yeah, we're going to pay him, and I won't be that upset. When he's playing in a free-flowing, ball-sharing offense, he's a triple double machine and clearly impacts winning. He's also still very young. I think he could be the foundation for a very good team if the right players are built around him.
People were saying that we wouldn't win more than 5 games after trading Zach, but this team is winning despite a lot of minutes from scrubs. We just really need that rim-running defensive center for all the Coby/Giddey lobs.
Lonzo probably isn't a long-term solution at guard, but I think we can retain Ayo for a fairly cheap.
Coby, Ayo, Giddey, Matas, defensive center... could be really good in a year or 2. Guys like Tre Jones, Huerter, and Phillips should be minimum contracts to help fill the bench. We can probably get rid of Pat, Vuc, and Terry. We clearly need to upgrade the front court.

It feels nice to have one of the those nightly triple double guys on our team. You realize how rare and special they are.

How much are we gonna end up having to pay this guy? Throw the buzzer beater out the window and Giddey still just dropped yet another all-NBA caliber game.
Coby with another massive game as well.

Re: Josh Giddey - Conundrum Killer
The guy looks like he can flirt with a triple double in his sleep. This was probably his worst game in over 2 weeks and he still dropped 25/14/11
He didnt shoot the ball well. Missed nearly half his free throws. Bad turnovers etc. But still had an all world statline.
Quite frankly he probably deserves rookie max - whatever that is. But I am still trying to play hardball for a better deal

Maybe he's The Man and we don't need to get lucky to have a chance to draft Cooper Flagg.
The great thing we know is that Josh Giddey is a killer. He's clutch. That's what we needed.

I loved Giddey pre-draft, but I was certain I was wrong about him after his lacklustre stint in OKC. I'm glad you guys unlocked his potential, and that he's doing it on a team I don't hate.

Coby is extremely clutch too. Loved Zach, but he was not clutch.

I did not even dream Giddey would be That Guy.
He is going to get paid, and rightly so.

I think Huerter is gonna get paid from a contending team. He has the resume and is killing it in a bigger role here. We went from "get rid of everyone" to "damn we can't keep all our toys" pretty quick.

Dude may end up top 10-15 if he doesn't fizzle out. He's already 40th. Tied with KG and 1 behind Pippen. Ton of active guys on and climbing the list though.

Huerter has two more years left on his deal. And yeah he is definitely no league minimum player. Neither is Tre Jones. He is get $10 million plus deal this summer. Some team will give him MLE money. Hopefully us.

Huerter has one more year left at $18M. He'd be a good future resign at the MLE or less, but the opportunity cost comes in with him and Jones both making that much vs. our ability to add one, slightly better guy at $30M, but then again, not signing another high impact offensive player will give Matas room to grow.

Killed all chances? If we were the worst team in the league, our odds of getting Flagg were 14%, or a little better than 1 out of 10. Any spot from 5 on down, the odds are worse than 1 out of 10. Now on the flip side, we got Derrick Rose with a 1.7% chance. If we were one of the worst teams we would have missed him.

Re: Josh Giddey - Conundrum Killer
It’s his fourth season and he’s at a similar level to where he was at season two and three.
He doesn’t have much upside as he is physically limited and already has his advantages/disadvantages- shooters touch but poor defense.
Trade while high. I hate to be the debbie downer but it’s panned out exactly as anticipated in these situations, where we hang onto a guy and their value plummets, then we sell for peanuts. This is not far from his peak and I’d be willing to bet that a contender would give him something good, meaning we’d have to overpay anyway and can get a decent return. For once, let’s sell while stock is high and try to get as much as possible in cap and landing a star through the draft.
Otherwise, we will keep following the treadmill in trusting guys like these as a piece to a contender that we will never build, just as we did with Zach.

This is what needs to be discussed more.
He has gone toe to toe with against Luka and beat him twice. He didn’t hide or run. He squared him up and just played better and led his team to wins.
Giddey’s IQ is top 5 in the league.
Giddey’s hustle and toughness is elite.
This post ASB Giddey is a winner on both ends of the court.

We definitely cannot keep all these guards. Hopefully we can trade them first assets and not just let them walk though.
You’re right on Huerter. I thought he had two years left. 2026 is gonna be a crucial offseason for us.

Yeah, the Bulls have to re-sign Giddey. I like Ball and Jones but neither have Giddeys upside. Can not afford to lose Giddey.
