Grizzlies Part Ways With Taylor Jenkins

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Mar 28, 2025 4:40 pm

The Memphis Grizzlies have parted ways with head coach Taylor Jenkins.

“I’m genuinely appreciative of Taylor’s contributions to this team and this city over the past six seasons,” said Grizzlies President and GM of Basketball Operations Zach Kleiman. “This was a difficult decision, given the consistent and tangible development of our players and overall success under Taylor’s leadership. I wish Taylor the very best going forward.”

Thanks for your consistent development of our players and overall success. Oh and also, you're fired!

Seems pretty safe to say there's more to this than what is being put out publicly.

He must of got physical with someone..no other reason to fire him at this stage and that record.

Did he punch somebody or cheat on his wife with an intern? I think those are the only two possibilities here. This is bananas

Just saw a stat

Jenkins hadn’t beaten a team with a winning record since February 3

The team he beat was the Mavericks, who were missing eight players

Who cares? He deserved to finish the season. Grizzlies have a legit shot at going to WCF.

I agree that he deserved to finish the season (assuming this was a basketball decision) but WCF??? They would likely be facing OKC in the 2nd round, a team who has swept them in four games this season by a combined 75 points. If they get out of the 4-5 matchup they would likely face two of DEN, HOU and LAC.

LAC has gone 3-1 vs. MEM, the one win was by 1 point.
HOU has gone 3-1 vs. MEM, the one win was by 1 point.
DEN has gone 1-1 vs. MEM with one game remaining, but DEN is clearly the better team.

No, they had no shot.

464-250 (.539)? That don't add up, but neither does the timing of this move.

This makes so little sense on the surface. He's done a good job with the group, JJJ became an all-star/DPOY under him, he has a winning record and they're safely in the playoffs in the West. And you fire him with a month left in the season? Because....the team isn't performing to expectations, which were mild to begin with?

There's gotta be more to this. It can't be due to performance because what coach is going to make any sort of tangible change that will make them better with a month to go in the season?

the stat about his win-loss record is way off. how could he amass 814 games coached in 6 seasons? also, the percentage isn't even correct for the incorrect numbers. RealGPT at it again.

Should’ve waited until after the playoffs. Doesn’t make sense

Yeah, of course. He's a white man so show him some grace, right? Smh

On the surface it's a head-scratcher, but when someone in the know exposes that his team hasn't beaten a team with a winning record for more than a month, then it becomes completely understandable.

I hate superficial success and apparently so does the Grizz FO, I respect it.

Such an odd timing to pull this off. Maybe they think a new voice can lead to a playoff push. Maybe players have said something to the FO. Not sure this will age well he’s done a very good job imo

An article I read said nothing like this has ever happened. Mike Dantoni quit late in the season 2011-12 but the players didn't like him. Melo didn't like him but when he left, NY was a fringe playoff team with a losing record, and if he hadn't quit, it's possible he'd have been fired. THere was measurable unhappiness among the players when that happened.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

What a strawman.. He has had injuries to deal with over the past month what a ridiculous take here by you.. plenty of white coaches have been fired this is so dumb

And some messiah coach is going to come in and get Grizzlies past OKC? It’s like Sixers replacing Doc with Nurse and he’s driven them right into the dumpster.
