Kristaps Porzinguis

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Fri Mar 28, 2025 7:50 pm

His $30 million contract is expiring next year... an All-Star level player with a rare and highly valuable skill set... but you can't rely on his health...
Would Boston initially look to cut as much money as possible and get a cheap player in return?
What teams would be interested? What kind of offers could we see?

I imagine the offers will look like they did the last two times he was traded. Nothing much has changed with him besides winning a chip on a stacked roster where he missed most of the playoffs. Talented player that will be discounted in trade due to health.

I would have taken the gamble in Memphis if we had not done the Smart trade. Heat make some sense. Charlotte if they want to push some. Clips could make it work along side Zubac maybe. Kings....likely too much time on the perimeter defending for one of KP or Sabonis. Funny enough back to Dallas makes some sense.

Likely cheaper roles players and marginal draft assets (2nds) is what Boston would be deciding from.

Lively and AD are enough injury prone bigs for me I think lol. Though if the cost was Gafford to Boston and Klay to somewhere else saving Boston a ton of money and having some kind of center replacement I guess I'd do it and hope you get 2 of them healthy for 65-70 games and ideally all of them for the playoffs.

But giving up Washington or Lively or a pick and I think Dallas has to walk away especially not knowing what to expect from Kyrie. It would be as you say, the bargain pickup flyer on the talent, pray on the health.

But I think Jrue has to be the guy to move if you can. Horford can't go forever and you feel better about your other guard options than you do Kornet/Q no matter how much Celtics twitter loves to hype them up.

No way would I want Dallas to pay real assets here, but if he is cheap enough I like the AD/KP/Lively 4/5 well enough. Klay/Gaff/2nd(s) would be my offer as well roping in a 3rd team.

I also think Jrue is the guy that is most likely moved. The return won't be much better if any than KP but they will be more teams interested I think.

He'd be a great fit (at least on paper) for the Pistons, and they have the cap space to make it happen..?..

The Bulls want and need to trade Vucevic and end up with Zach Collins and Smith. They don't have any need for 2-3 G League guys they draft in round 2 who may never see the big show. Fontecchio is already 29 years old and and when they move Vuc besides having shown nothing he'd be the oldest guy on the roster. Nobody is up for making that move

What do we think is fair for KPs next contract?
Is playing in half the games worth 3/90?

Yeah, I could see Detroit if the price is low enough. Expiring makes him cheaper, but also low risk if he falls apart health-wise or the fit is bad. And if he wants to bolt, a low-ish price means no big loss.

Not giving up a first or a rotation rookie contract for him, though, unless he comes with draft compensation. Then we could perhaps discuss Ivey.

The last three seasons he has avg 65, 57 and 37 games so far this year. He is aging and those injuries and durability and not gonna get better. At this point his value is prob as expiring deal next year to clear some salary. Great player who was derailed by injuries. Just cant depend on him.

I want to like Queta, but he isn’t quite proving himself to be a legit rotation center yet. There are flashes for sure and you can see the potential. I’d like Joe to play him more, but maybe there is a reason he is the coach and I am not. The green Kornet has been legit!!!! At least in the regular season. We will see if he can hold his own in the playoffs though, but you are right he also has some limitations.
I agree with you that if they need to make a trade Jrue is the better guy to move…though it may be easier to move KP.
As a Celtics fan I have been trying to get my head around that they will have to trade one of these guys. It’s a bit sad for sure to have to break up a winner.

Yeah, if he could get 60 games and be healthy for the post season he is a huge difference maker. That’s a big if though.

On Dallas specifically, I don’t think you want your lineup that top heavy. I know all four (PJ not Gafford) will only play 20-30 games together probably.. guess you trade one of Lively/PJ next season if KP/AD are locked up?

A lot of teams would be interested in the price was cheap enough honestly.

Milwaukee might be a good team to take a big risk.

CLT. NOP.. Clips.. Atlanta makes some sense next to either OO or Jalen and it’s affordable

Porzingis for Poeltl? Boston gets the cheaper, more reliable option while Toronto gets the upside option.

Porzingis to Detroit for Duran, Duran to Toronto, Poeltl to Boston? Feel like Toronto or possibly Boston need to send something to Detroit but perhaps not that much.

I think if Duren is in the mix Celtics would leave out Toronto, and yes Celtics would need to send at least 1 first. Would Detroit be into this?

If Myles Turner leaves for some reason, I think Indy would have interest in Porzingis while sending out Obi Toppin (and if Indy could arrange Myles as an outgoing sign and trade wherever he’s going). Porzingis would provide some rim protection while stretching the floor next to Siakam. Would suffer some defensively, but pretty close to a seamless fit otherwise?

If Myles can’t go as a sign and trade for some reason, then Indy wouldn’t have the ability to take on Porzingis.

If he and Doncic hadn't been a bad match the first time I'd say LAL would be a great fit. They need a big badly and next year is the all-in year for them.

A rim protecting, rim running stretch five is just what they need but don't see it happening due to the past.

I actually like him a lot in Memphis but they also have a lot of big salaries in the mix as well.

I could see Duren and Fonty for KP and draft compensation (first rounder). I’d be ok with it. I like Duren but KP is a better natural fit in this lineup which lacks shooters in the SL. I’m also concerned that we can’t keep both Beasley and DS. It makes adding shooting more important in my eyes plus our first is clearly going to Minny so we can’t get help with shooting via the draft.
