Amazing that last year the Celtics put up a similar record, point differential and gap into the second place team in their conference and all the noise was about how the East is so weak it's a joke. But when OKC does the same thing to a similarly crappy conference, you hear none of that.

Knicks have a better chance of beating the Cavs than the Celtics imo. If they're scaredy kats, they will avoid the Cs in the 2nd round and would just rather fall to 4th or 5th seed.

Pacers really scored 162 points (48 assists, 27 3s, WTF) in regulation. DO NOT WANT Celtics tiring themselves out and chasing them around in the 2nd round. Save all our energy for the ECF and Finals.

They have really been living up to that name these last couple of years. Mike D'Antoni is somewhere smiling right now.

The Lakers' defense is really shining this 4th quarter. They make choke this game away.

And they just did, giving away 44 points in the 4th, with Giddey outluking Doncic.

And this is why you foul when you're up 3+ in dying seconds.

Absolutely shocking! Wow!!!
WTH!

I don’t know what’s going on in Memphis. Losing Brandon Clarke, that was a freak injury. But seems like nobody ever knows when Ja is gonna play. And then the trade deadline they sell LaRavia and Smart …Jake LaRavia was a minutes leader and playing quite well! And like I know Smart was disappointing but he was rounding into shape and Memphis was the freaking 2nd seed in the west at the time. And now Memphis looks like she’s in a dysfunctional free fall !

What the f***** !

Agreed. He’s done a pretty good job considering all the injuries. He was in the Spurs organization with the Toro’s a bunch of years ago. Nothing against the Spurs interim HC, but if I’m SA and Pop I’d bring Jenkins back in their camp.

They declined LaRavia's option last offseason, was a little surprising to me but I guess they are prioritizing Aldama.

Smart was not only disappointing, but redundant. Ja became healthy, Scottie Pippen Jr emerged, John Konchar is a vaguely similar player, Cam Spencer is waiting in the wings, Jaylen Wells has been giving minutes at the 2 while they already had Bane & Luke Kennard. Smart only really made sense for them if he could become a cornerstone of their culture and a team captain.

Next season, they stand to have a bit of cap room, while keeping Morant/Bane/JJJ/Edey and other cost controlled young guys.

Jenkins' dismissal seems out of left field, but it seems like they were already pondering it in the offseason.

Guess playing young guys like Jaylen Wells wasn't enough to save Jenkins' coaching job.

Is Nico Harrison also running the Grizzlies?

I've always thought there was something odd with the Grizzlies this year. They made no significant additions in the offseason. They were playing 2 rookies in the starting lineup, and even at the deadline when they were a top 2/3 team in the West, they made no moves to gear up for a postseason run, (actually did the opposite and parted with two rotation guys).

Something tells me they weren't really planning to be winning this much this year. It's also odd that they do given both Morant and Bane have seemingly regressed. Maybe the initial plan was to punt the year and get maybe a mid-1st rounder in the draft. As ridiculous as it sounds, Jenkins may have been fired for winning too much lol.

Drew Timme signs with Brooklyn. I love this move. Guys with a niche skill like Timme who demonstrate dominance at the G League level, deserve a chance to see if they can be effective at the NBA level. I bet we see same thing for Oscar Tshiebwe who also destroys with his skillset.

from Grizz' Reddit, fwiw

[–]TheSmrtstManNTheWrld 17 points 4 hours ago*

My source for this is a person who talked to someone who cuts players hair so take it with a major grain of salt, i didn’t believe at all until right now. Several years ago a person getting their hair cut by this woman who doesn’t care about basketball at all got a bunch of tea from them which basically amounted to “the team hates Taylor Jenkins, and Des and Santi hate each other.” At the time I was like ok sure, but since then I’ve consistently watched games looking for any indication that the team liked Jenkins and I haven’t really found one. Purely speculation. But then when Des and Santi got into the other day it made me wonder if all of the hairdresser tea was actually true. So my only theory having just found about this is that TJ must have had some real issues with the team and perhaps our best players. And just my own observation but in listening to interviews w our guys (such as old man and the three with Des and Jaren recently) they are far from effusive in their praise of TJ, and normally when guys love a coach they talk about it ya know?
