Hasn't done a particularly good job developing younger players and i don't think he's a tactical wizard with Xs and Os.

He really is a Doug Collins A to B kinda coach. Usually does the best with low expectations because his rosters play hard but i don't think he's the kind of guy who you'd ever win a title with unless the team was absolutely loaded and had a Lebron/Jokic kinda guy on offense who made all the decisions.

Who is elite? There are probably like 5 elite coaches and the rest just get recycled.

1. Spoelstra
2. Thibodeau
3. Udoke
4. Carlisle

i consider all those guys elite and they add 3-5 wins to your roster a year/put you in best position to win and overachieve consistently to their talent. Carlisle for my money is still the best head coach in a 7 game series. I think Quinn Snyder is close to this level also.

Guys who i like more than Donovan and i think would be doing a better job developing or being creative with our talent limitations include

Kerr
Jenkins
Atkinson
Daigneault
Hardy
Billups
Lue
Budenholzer
Finch
Malone

Donovan is very clearly in the Doc Rivers/Mike Brown Meh tier to me. I don't think he's going to royally screw anything up and the players all seem to respect him but i can't really think of any other strengths outside of that. If Jim Boylen coaches the team the last 3 years i think our outcome is exactly the same as it's been. If Thibs or Ime coached our 2022-204 seasons i actually think we could have won north of 45 games and been frisky in a 1st round series even though it all would have been fools gold and not indicative of our contender status.

It's crazy to me to watch the Thibs Knicks this year, scoring a ton of points and playing crappy defense.

This how coaching evaluations go. From last night's game thread (you can read through it if you like) -- Billy's late game rotation is killing us. We are going to lose, it's Billy's fault. At that point, Billy's "bad" lineup that everybody could see was flawed came from 10 down to win. Credit for Billy? Nope, it was hurray Giddey.

So ... come on now.
