Does Portland have the assets to trade for……

Post#1 » by Blazers20 » Sat Mar 29, 2025 5:00 pm

Does Portland have the assets to trade for both Ja and Zion without including Sharpe and Deni? What would it take to get Ja and Zion to Portland?

1: Ja
2: Sharpe
3: Deni
4: Zion
5: Ayton

Possibly but it would be a bad idea.

Ja has 3 years left on his contract and Zion has 2 (I believe Blazers can void Zion’s contract). I think Ja and Zion can motivate each other as they have a history together. Could be very fun to watch and if it fails it allows Portland to dump the veterans.

I would assume Blazers would have to trade Scoot and vets to Memphis to replace Ja and the package for Zion would have to include Clingan and vets which I am comfortable doing to get both Ja and Zion.

In the last 2 seasons Ja has played 52 of the last 155 games - or about 33%.

Zion since he came into the league has played 214 of of 472 games - or about 45%.

One has legal issues - one has weight issues - both are often unavailable to play the game.

Mortgaging all we have for these 2 guys would be a inexcusable crime.

Zero leadership or professionalism from either.

Prima donnas who cannot stay on the court and have off court issues as well.

Hard pass.

I like both but neither works with basketball.

Those two rascals belong in the WWE, not the NBA.

Guns and jams do not go together like peanut butter and jam.

Legit tho, if/when the Grizzlies trade Ja, he’s gonna be traded for in a wildly unimpressive deal.

Players like Ja and LaMelo are talented, but are the kind of players I wouldn’t touch with a 100ft pole. Their egos aren’t worth the talent. Ja in particular is a player who - if the offense isn’t catered to him - is pretty unremarkable and is basically John Wall 2.0 rather than Russ Westbrook 2.0.

LaMelo is talented, but his circus shots and passes that get highlights actually aren’t what you need if you’re trying to be a winner for a ring. The plays will trend and be top 10 for the night/month, but if you want a ring…

Scoot will definitely not get you closer to a ring over Ja or Ball.

For both? No

For one? Maybe

Should they? No

Zion can’t stay healthy

Ja can’t stay out of trouble

Neither has been able to play more than 70 games in a season

Not worth the cost, not worth the risk

What LaMelo to Portland? You can start (1)LaMelo-(2)Sharpe-(3)Deni and try and bring in an impactful, versatile power forward via trade.

Id never say never but would it probably take a bargain basement sort of deal for me to bite. Definitely not gonna mortgage the future for one of these guys

I'm not really sure if anyone is untouchable though, toumani deni and DC are maybe the 3 i care the most about keeping but would consider moving sharpe or Scoot if one of those teams was swoon on them
