This kid’s ceiling keeps rising.

Honestly, think he has All NBA potential. Ridiculous ceiling.

Not many rookies putting up crazy efficient near 30 pt games against NBA playoff vets like Lakers and Mavs.

His ceiling was always All NBA potential. It was most likely a low outcome but he had all the athletic tools. Ive posted this before but it was in January 2024:

There are a lot of different avenues for where Buzelis’s career can go. My high-end projection would see him as a second or (more likely) third option on a good team. There’s always the chance a player could make unforeseen, rare developments. But for Buzelis to become a leading man on a great at the NBA level, a lot would have to go right. He would have to fill out his frame to an impeccable degree, become an excellent three-point shooter, and make outlier improvements to his handle. But if Buzelis can simply “turn the dial” in a big way, that’s an awesome player. It’s possible that he can develop his frame to the point that he isn’t pushed around as easily on defense, becomes a good-to-great three-point shooter, and gets his handle to a point where he can run second-side actions without issue. It still requires a lot of things to click, but I don’t think it’s unrealistic. And if Buzelis can be a second or third option at 6’10”, we’re talking about boatloads of money flowing into his bank account. That’s the type of players teams picking at the top of the draft should be eyeing in this class.

Even a more median outcome still profiles well financially for Buzelis while still bringing value to an NBA organization. If he’s a solid shooter who hits open shots, it’ll open up driving lanes for his above-the-rim finishing and slick on-the-go passing. Plus, given his size and versatility as a defender, he’d be one of the most plug-and-play guys in the league who could fit into—and start—in almost any system. This is where I believe he’s most likely to settle, and it’s a lucrative outcome. 6’10” starters, and even good bench players if Buzelis falls a little bit short of this mark, get paid. Every team wants size, shooting, and defense on the wing, and there’s a very attainable avenue for Buzelis to deliver all three. If Buzelis isn’t a consistent or reliable three-point shooter, still struggles with turnovers, and the strength doesn’t come along, things get more precarious. But based on the growth we’ve seen from Buzelis in these respects over the last year, I’m more optimistic about his future than that. And still, the “lesser” versions of Buzelis are good NBA players in important positions.

Matas doesn't really have any major holes in his game.
He looks to be a good on ball defender, a very good help defender. Shooting seems like it's gonna be solid. He's a willing passer, moves without the ball, elite athlete, solid handles especially at his size, and he's gonna be good in transition
Imo his biggest issues are post defense and getting knocked off the ball on the dribble. Strength fixes both of those hopefully.

Once he adds muscle it’s game over.

We are talking young Giannis take over.

Buz obviously way more skilled and better shooter without the Hercules body.

I think this kid can become a true #1.

Matas is pretty athletic but not sure hes at Giannis level. I think Khaman Maluach in terms of upside is more a comparison.

He's looking a lot more confident and quick attacking the basket now. His processing of the game has gotten to vet level just by the end of his rookie year. Hopefully 5 year vet Pat gets there one day.

How did Maluach make it into this post?

You are comparing Buz to Maluach?

I said Buz with muscle would have a crazy rise like Giannis did in his early career without the Hercules body type. Did not say he is or will be Giannis. Very different players but Buz can have that type of two way impact. That would be his absolute ceiling which I never thought was close to being true at the beginning of the season.

Last night was something completely new from Matas. He was facilitating the offense more than at any time of the season. This was certainly the first time he was getting the inbounds consistently and running a play. Now I don't know if it was because Giddey didn't have it, but either way, I really liked what I saw.

Matas and Giannis aren't even ... like its such a random comparison... It just makes no sense. There are tons of two way wings you could of used but you went with a PF/C. I don't think Matas would make it in the top 20 current NBA players of he doesn't take 3s and becomes more a low post player. I might not have agreed, but not sure why you didn't say Kawhi Leonard or Paul George or KD. I was also trying to sayif you want to compare Giannis to someone and have it make sense then Maluach is better. They actually play similar positions and both have similar upside.

The guy who I think he should model his game after is Tatum.

Maluach is very high on my Bulls board and I doubt we even get a chance to draft him, but . . . . . . :noway:

Yeah I’m lost.

Maluach doesn’t even dribble the ball.
Giannis is not a C. BroLo is his C.

Buz attacks the rim like Giannis. All the euros, spins, hesitations, crosses, bumps. When he adds muscle he will be nearly impossible to stop and will get lots of FTs except he will make his unlike Giannis. He also has a legit 3 that Giannis doesn’t have which makes him so much harder to defend. Giannis has the low post game that I don’t think Buz will ever have. I do think Buz will develop a mig high post game similar to Kobe but I’m sure not nearly as effective or used due to the 3 being so big today and not nearly as much in Kobe’s day.

Tatum is a good comparison but Buz is taller and longer and attacks the rim more. Tatum settles for a lot of 3s. He more like Luka with the go to step back 3 move.

If you wanted to pick a star comparison for Matas, Paul George at his peak feels like about as good as a comparison as I can think of.

That said, no comparison is perfect, so making one isn't all that relevant, and it depends what areas of his game he develops the most. He has the foundation of a shot that could develop into an elite shot capable of advanced shot types and high volumes. He has the foundations of a dribble drive / finishing game that could make him an elite point of attack player. He has the defensive instincts and basketball IQ that if with the right filling out of his frame he could become a really elite defender.

If we hit the super lottery and he does all those things, he could be a dominant player in the league, like top 5 type of guy. It's really unlikely that happens, and it's probably unlikely that any single one of those things happens at the max out level, but the fact that he has so many pathways to become a better than average starter is really intriguing.

If his peak years are 24/7/4 on 44/39/86 with 6 All NBA, 4 All defensive and 7 All Star selections... Hes getting his jersey in the rafters.

Paul George is and has always been very much a wing. Buz is a forward, even if he is mobile and pulls wing-ish moves. For current players to compare to, I think more Siakam, Aaron Gordon, Jerami Grant, Avdija, even Banchero and Barnes (though not as strong, not quite the offensive upside).

Still like the Tyrus Thomas and Ak47 comped in terms of a more defensive focused player who is versatile offensively (though Tyrus never developed).

Wings are forwards.
