Grizzlies outplayed the Lakers in 75% of tonight's game cumulatively. First quarters matter. I'm about to watch the game to see how Iisalo adjusted how he set his rotations. My guess is he put the ball in Ja's and Desmond's hand the majority of the time. And JJJ should be utilized more.

75% of the game? I don’t even think they had their first lead until the 3rd quarter

I'm taking the average point differential between the second, third and fourth quarters in comparison to the first quarter.
*Lakers outscored them by nine in the first quarter. Won by seven.

I mean Memphis won a single quarter. Saying they outplayed them 75% of the game with a workaround sounds a bit dishonest. At no point in that game did Memphis look like the better team. I guess it’s just semantics?

Ah, is this the Lakers version of "we had the closest schlonging at the hands of the Nuggets," post?

Tuomas Iisalo has not coached in the EuroLeague in his career. He won back-to-back continental competitions in Europe but it was the BCL (Basketball Champions League) and EuroCup levels.

That's fair. Good point.

If the Grizzlies goal is to win a championship they need to get rid of Kleiman. Dude thinks rookies, inexperienced players, and 3rd strangers are key to winning a championship and not solids vets. He's the main reason the Grizzlies are not a championship level team.

Agreed. Super low class. Let him play out the next month at least and see how they do in playoffs and even if you’re eager to fire him the minimum expectation for a winning coach is at least let him finish o out these next few weeks.
It's not like the Grizzlies are contenders. All break ups hurt, so might as well do it early and start the recovery process. LOL
Nah, just disagree here. I’m sure there are other coaches out there who won’t be on the same team next year and the ownership already knows it. But they’re smart enough not to do it this late in the season, even for the losing coaches they don’t get canned this late in the year. And Memphis canned a winning coach on the way to the playoffs in a year when the team has had a lot of injuries and you can argue they even overachieved in the stacked West.
This was a low class move. Unless this dude did some foul stuff off the court that we don’t know about, this was a **** move on their part and you let him coach out the next few weeks and then let him go. My phone was blowing up with “wtf lol, what’s going on here, why now” messages from friends about this move. I haven’t talked to one person that didn’t think it was ridiculous this late in the year, especially for a wining coach on the way to the playoffs. Have we seen that happen before?
I like the young gritty Memphis team, but this move by ownership makes me want to see them flame out in the first round.
Counterpoint: the Grizz are backing into the playoffs about as hard as you can right now and it seemed inevitable that, if the status quo remained, the Grizz had no real shot of winning a playoff series this year. The Grizz's core 3 players are 25/26 years old, and Ja (at least) grew disgruntled with the new offense. Why wait to pull the trigger in the offseason? If the team responds favorably to the coaching change, then you might salvage a playoff run this year, one of the few in your core's prime - if not, then you're no worse than you were before the move.

The amount of work the Grizzlies org goes through to appease Ja has to be exhausting.
They should trade him asap to whatever desperate franchise would take him. The juice is not worth the squeeze…

Facts, Scottie is low key out playing him anyways. Ja for Zion makes alotta sense for both

We are not trading the best player in franchise history until we fully give him a chance to be his best.

Weren't they rumored to be trying to trade for KD or some other big trade target?
Memphis may have difficulty attracting big free agents.
They seem to be going all-in on Ja, Bane and JJJ, max them out and build around them.

Pau Gasol is easily better.

What's preventing him from being his best?

It's not the schematics which are the big obstacle for European coaches in the NBA.
It will be managing superstar players who've earned hundreds of millions so they have big egos.

Seriously. Gonna go full old-man here… but if you think Ja is the best player in Grizzlies history, you’ve clearly only watch the NBA for the last 7 years.
The grit and grind Grizz had 2-3 players better than Ja. And that was AFTER Pau.

Free Agency is only a real avenue for like 20% of the league. 15% for big cities, 5% for small markets that are contenders. For most teams, FA is just there to fill the roster.

Marc was the best Grizzly so far but Ja is a ceiling raiser that no other Grizz has ever been. Pau is top ten but will never be the greatest Grizzly.
