Lakers' Big 3 Responds After Mini-Meeting With JJ Redick

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Mar 30, 2025 1:55 pm

JJ Redick called LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves for a mini-meeting ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers' 134-127 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.

"We challenged all three of them when we get to their three-man actions to play with a little more force and a little more thrust and a little more creativity," Redick said of his message.

The trio responded by combining for 85 points and 25 assists. Reaves led all scorers with 31 points, while Doncic had 29 points and nine assists, and James had 25 points and eight assists.

"I think the meeting was just still trying to build that chemistry amongst the three of us to help the team be successful," Reaves said. "Tonight, it just showed that when we play the right way and trust one another, especially offensively, we can have open looks on almost every possession. ... It was really just a conversation about how bad all of us want to win and win at a high level."

Next, they need to have a conversation about how to get the defense back to the level it was at before LeBron’s hamstring injury. Hopefully, the grind of March and the brutal schedule—partly due to the LA fires—are finally behind them, allowing the team to regain its competitive defensive edge.

If they continue relying on this high-scoring style into April, I’m not sure they’ll be able to make a deep postseason run. That said, when the Big 3 are clicking like this, their offense is tough to stop. Maybe the headband will bring out the best of this team for a big push for playoff seeding.

That defense wasn't sustainable. It was more due to effort and energy.

JJ wants them to be more aggressive offensively. It's going to come at a price in some form.

I agree but their defense has come around a little bit over the last few weeks. I do think you will see them put that effort on that side of the court once the playoffs start
