Ok so I thought about this a bit.

Our lineup should be:

Bourn(rookie, unproven, hope he can do the job. Not sure why everyone ASSUMES he can?)
Pence
Berkman
Lee
Tejada
Wigginton
Towles
Matsui
Pitcher

I don't like the idea of an unproven rookie and a mediocre slap-ball hitter who has a low OBP% batting 1-2. Late game situations, we need them to set the table for the big hitters, I don't have confidence they can or will. Moving Matsui down gives us speed at the bottom of the lineup and since he's mediocre anyways he will be our automatic out in the 8 spot.

Pence has proven he can hit and get on base as well as drive in runs, so if Bourn does the job decently enough, him and Pence setting the table for Berkman/Lee/Tejada should be solid. Wigginton isn't bad and Towles should be a decent bit better offensively than Ausmus.

Now as far as our closer, why not Chris Sampson with Qualls setting him up? I think he has the stuff.

Our rotation is the big ?.

Oswalt
then a huge dropoff

Out of Backe/Nieve/Wandy/Woody/Sampson(if we dont use him in the pen), hopefully a couple of them can be decent

Let's face it, we need our bullpen to be good because only one of those guys is a legit "get us to the 7th inning" guy consistantly.

Take a chance on Freddy Garcia or Livan Hernandez or Mark Prior or Jon Lieber or Matt Clement and hope whoever we get can be a solid addition for us. They should come fairly cheap so let's go after a couple of them.

And what about Tejada's contract, he can opt out after 08, and that can't be good.

Wait after 08? or 09? I thought in the chron it said he has 2yrs left and has an opt out option after 2008, for the 09 season.

3 major steroid users that were on your team: Clemens, Pettitte, and Tejada. Cheaters! The O's probably knew this and that's why they dealt him to the Steroid City.

Fine with me. Just play Loretta. It won't matter when we're giving up 10 runs a game anyways.

I've said it before but I think they're making a huge mistake if they bat Bourn/Matsui 1-2.

Bourn is an unproven player who might end up being good for us(I assume he will) but Matsui is NOT good at getting on base and the job for the top 2 guys is to set the table for the big hitters in the middle. I am worried about late game situations, top of the order and no outs in the 9th inning. Do you really have faith those guys will get on consistantly to start a rally? I don't. 1 of them is fine, but move Matsui to the bottom of the lineup where he belongs. I don't want 2 guys with mediocre OBP% coming up before Pence/Berkman/Lee/Roider.

I really like the new Astros middle of the order of Berkman, Lee, and Tejada. The Astros are 2-3 decent starters away from contending again.
