Fits in terms of role, salary, skills. We can fit him in without taking back any salary; our team might get too expensive when Ausar's extension kicks in for 2027-28, but there is plenty of time to deal with that issue.

Heck, Toppin is such a great fit in DET I'd throw a SRP Indiana's way so that they feel good about the transaction.

Ok how about this the Pistons are likely giving their #1 in 2025 to Minn. Toppin and #1 from Indiana 2025 for Bobbi Klintman and the Pistons 2026 #1 top 4 protection. The Pacers were rumored to really like Klintman a year or 2 ago.

I strongly disagree.

First, we cannot take him without sending salary back, in order to do that we would need to use our MLE and we'll need our MLE to bring Malik Beasley back. We could renounce Schroder and Tim Hardaway Jr to get cap space, and even then, we wouldn't be able to absorb Toppin and bring Beasley back.

Second, Obi Toppin skill doesn't fit with what we do. Obi Toppin is in the 1 percentile as a defender (according to EPM). Despite having all the phisical tools he is REALLY BAD on defense. He is dumb.

On offense sure, he would be a huge upgrade over Fontecchio (almost any NBA rotation player would), Toppin can hit some open shots, he can run and he can jump out of the gym, that would be a solid fit, but on the other side of the floor no, and the game is played on both sides of he floor.

So yeah, I wouldn't want Toppin even if we get paid to make a Fontecchio for Toppin swap. We got to be smart with our money in this CBA and MLE to a defensive sieve who's a good but not even excellent on offense is terrible money.

Agree. The Pistons have plenty of forwards anyways. Tobias, Thompson, Stewart….don’t see the need nor role for a $15m Toppin.

Stewart is a center, Tobias is not getting any younger and Fontecchio does not fit what we're doing, so we actually need a forward, just not arguably the worst defensive forward in the league who's being paid a lot of money for a lot of years.
