OT: These stupid ads at the top of the page

Post#1 » by Iwasawitness » Mon Mar 31, 2025 3:18 am

Is anyone else having issues with this? I'll come onto this site, try to click on a thread, and the stupid pop-up ads at the top of the page change the location of the thread I'm trying to click on and sometimes even makes me click on a totally different thread, which can be very annoying. I understand that sites rely on ads, but these big ones at the top of the page are just obnoxious and annoying.

I use uBlock and adblocker so I don't see em.

Happens to me constantly, it's really annoying. They key is to wait an extra second or two after the page loads. If you make the ad make the first move, you know where it's going.

UBlock Origin is your friend, you can re-turn it back on if Chrome thinks otherwise

Annoying when they stop the audio that's playing on your phone

Who the hell isn't using an ad blocker in 2025?

I’m using an adblocker, and they’re still popping up for me.

I like Brave too, I just didn't like how it wouldn't embed twitter links. Using Firefox atm.

Hmm mine does embed them now. Maybe there was an update? Maybe there are some tweaks in settings?

Either way, there are getarounds to the issue OP posted so good to keep sharing them.

This site is by far the worst I have seen w.r.t. to intrusive ads imparing the ability to function.

It's ironic. They justify it by claiming it's needed to generate revenue to keep things running. But think of how much traffic is lost due to viewers leaving from frustration. And the ones who stay end up circumventing the ads altogether to make it palatable.

Honestly, I would rather pay a small fee if they removed all of the ads entirely. In fact, I would definitely pay it if they also promised to run normal/sane ads for everyone who doesn't pay instead of whatever awfulness they are choosing now. So that if new folks came in they might actually want to stay and <gasp> support the site later.

But a flat fee requirement alone would absolutely kill the possibility of new blood coming in.

I'd pay if they rearranged the forum boards. like era/player comparisons and goat comparisons, and maybe give the lebron stans their on lebron church
