What Teams Are Best Equipped To Land Giannis In A Potential Trade Request?

Post#1 » by Tor_Raps » Mon Mar 31, 2025 2:39 am

Title says it all, the Dame Lillard situation has thrown a massive curveball for the Bucks plans to contend. Many thought even if fully healthy, Bucks were at best fringe contenders but things are only going to get worst as Dame would just be another year older assuming he can actually make it back.

With that said, what teams are best equipped to go land Giannis and still be a contender if the situation gets that far? What would you think their trade offer would be?

Lakers could probably get him for a heavily protected 2nd.

OKC has the best combination of young talent and picks. Houston would also have some interesting pieces to offer (Amen I think is one of the young up and coming guys in the league with the most trade value). Feels like they could get two really good players for him.

Would the Cavs give up Mobley + Garland for Giannis?
Would the Heat give up Bam + Herro?
Would OKC give up Williams + Chet?
Would Houston give up Thompson + Sengun?

HOU and OKC.

If they are looking to build around Dame, Celtics could offer Brown and picks. NYK could offer OG and Bridges, they did a good job staying out of the 2nd apron if i'm reading this right.

Blowing it up though seems like their best bet given the coaching situation too, and I would take the package that HOU could offer. OKC would do Chet and picks, I doubt Williams would be in the deal too. HOU could realistically give Thompson, Sengun and picks.

If Giannis hits the market I would be shocked if the Bucks didn't trade him to one of those two teams for their best prospect and all their picks. I think HOU would be his proffered choice because of their history, market, and Ime.

ATL and TOR are dark horses.

Portland? They could return the Bucks pick and swaps, allowing the Bucks to tank, plus they have several young talents that could be sent, and some large expiring contracts. Everything the Bucks could want in a rebuild.

You all keep saying OKC/CLE. The phrase "if it ain't broke don't fix it" comes to mind. They've got great things going - they could potentially win the championship this season - and they shouldn't mess their chemistry up. Also, Giannis should want to avoid the appearance of joining a team that's already at contender status a la KD/Warriors. Same goes for Boston.

Bucks are not building anything around old Lillard, let's be serious. If they trade Giannis, they blow it up. But they will try to keep him.

Will Giannis get the same hate as other stars that left their teams if he does leave? Or will people pick and choose? This is a guy who many consider is a top 3 player but has never put a team on his back and took them deep all by himself. How about he does that for a change? He was talking **** after winning his injury riddled ring about “doing it the right way” lol. Let’s see what he’s about.

Who cares? Milwaukee is irrelevant with Giannis, and they've tried to build around him for a decade.

I'm sorry, did I only imagine him scoring 50 points in a close out finals game?

Does that change the fact the Nets would have beat them if they were healthy? I just want to see this guy make a deep playoff run without a single all-star teammate.

OKC has the best assets, but they might be too good to make such a move. They may not want to shorten their window and start having financial issues with SGA and Giannis on 35% deals and Williams or Chet at 25% soon (they'd have to trade one just for financial sanity).

Houston's probably more likely. They aren't as stacked but they've got significant assets to deal and could use a consolidation.

OKC doesn't really need him. Houston would be really interesting for like a Sengun+Sheppard package.

How about Orlando? they have 2 quality young stars. Pick one plus other assets, could be a good package for both teams if Orl wanted to go there (likely not).
Rest in peace Kobe & Gianna

He won a chip on a small market team without jumping ship. The bucks supporting cast is awful and old.

it's the Rockets and there's nobody even a close second tbh. Reasons being, they have salary (VanVleet), young players (Smith, Whitmore, Sheppard) and draft picks (2027 Nets swap and 2027 unprotected Suns along with their own picks)

Udoka is a fraud but the Rockets don't realize that yet. When they lose in the playoffs he's going to convince them to mortgage their future to go "all in" for Giannis but that won't be enough for Udoka to get them over the finish line. But they'll be fun to watch and on TV all the time so the owner will be willing to take that risk.

OKC is NOT the team IMO, their picks aren't great and they shouldn't break a 70 wins pace core.
Rockets are the team IMO.
Defense wins draft lotteries!
