Torpedo Bats

Post#1 » by JaysRule15 » Mon Mar 31, 2025 1:14 am

Seems like this story is getting a lot of attention. The Yankees have started using bats that have more wood concentrated in the label area compared to the traditional bat barrels. The idea to get more hard hit contact from the middle-lower part of the bat. Appears to be working wonders for the Yankees as they've absolutely clobbered the Brewers in their 3 game series and hit like 15 homers. Maybe we need to secure a shipment of these bats lol.

Considering we have like what 3 HR total so far? Yeah, or hire more hitting coaches and analytic dudes!

I think the problem stems from the "analytic dudes" we did hire lol. After 2021, the organization embraced a philosophy where contact hitting was prioritized over power and home runs. And special emphasis placed on defense over offence. It's why we moved out Teo and Gurriel. I've even heard theories that apparently we did the Rogers Centre reno with one of the goals being to stifle home runs. Chapman also alluded to something similar when he left. Overall, I feel that philosophy has really done a number on our guys. Hopefully hiring a new hitting coach and resetting the system has an impact this season.

As the O's showed this series, the ballpark isn't the issue when it comes to hitting homers lol.

These bats are genius, and more teams better start jumping on the bandwagon. A larger/harder barrel on a bat that feels lighter and allows you to swing something with more mass without losing bat speed. Can you imagine how many HRs the Yankees are going to hit when the weather gets hot?

So obvious that it’s genius. Not sure why this wasn’t done 25 years ago! I would’ve made millions! 8-)

Honestly, I pretty much assumed that the bat shape was mandated by MLB within certain parametres and something like this didn't conform.

Obviously our analytics bros aren't very good. I wonder if that shape makes breaking pitches more successful when it's closer to ends.

Apparently Davis Schneider has been using this bat for a while already. But the modified barrel doesn't mean much when you can't make contact lol.

I think I saw Davis Schneider use a torpedo bat in yesterday's game.

Apparently these torpedo bats are legal, as they fit within MLB's specification regulations. Bats must be made of solid wood, smooth, round and no more than 2.61 inches in diameter and 42 inches in length, though most are no more than 34 inches long today.
