Don't expect a win but like Josh Hart says at least compete. I know its a back to back and in the grand scheme it doesn't matter much because our lock on the 3 seed is pretty good.
But just have some pride...

Yes, it's pants, but it's a style of pants that's a reference to Dutch settlers and people of Dutch ancestry, similar to how Celtics is a reference to Irish ancestry. That used to mean more than it does today.

It worked out, though. Imagine our name was like the New York Skyscrapers or some boring ****. You don't get great names like the Knickerbockers anymore.

Is it a great name though? I mean we all love it because we're fans and it's engrained into our DNA, but it's still a pair of dumb looking pants at the end of the day. I bet 75% of regular Knicks fans don't even know that the team goes by a shortened version of Knickerbocker pants. I'm not trying to bash our beloved Knicks name here; it just gets you thinking when the full name comes up into a conversation every decade or so.

We have 3 games against CLE/BOS remaining. I wouldn't be so sure we are locked in at 3 just yet. IND has a weak schedule to close out the season. That 4 game lead could disappear fast if we continue getting dominated by those two teams. Hopefully they rest players the last few games but, that's not guaranteed. We also have ATL who sometimes has our number and a good young DET team in there. Did I mention the three B2BS as well?

When the NBA formed, I don't think anyone thought it would be as big as it is today. It was just a cute name, and it was more than just a reference to the pants, but also the name from the Washington Irving novel (written under a pseudonym, Deitrick Knickerbocker) and a kind of symbol for the city.

I think this was the Knicks logo until 1964, or something like that.

I would say that was the plan but then towns was a late scratch so they ended up having to play Mitch because who else was there?
For all we know towns takes tonight off too and it’s 48 mins of precious. That should be fun

I wouldn't even give them the satisfaction.
Rest the starters, start all the bench guys and bring in Dadiet, etc.
Play hard, get the unlikely win with end of bench guys.

I thought that too, but here me out:
Just rest KAT and secure the win the team can win, which is the 76ers. Reduce that magic # for the 4th seed.
Because KAT or no KAT, Mitch or no Mitch, there's ZERO way this Knicks team is beating a rested Cavs team where the Knicks are on the 2nd night of a back to back, and traveling.
Rest Mitch, take the total bitch slap beat down that is coming, and move on to the next winnable game against a team that isn't good.

we are up 4 games in the loss column but we own the tiebreaker because we won the season series....Indy would have to outplay us by 5 games.
We both have 7 games left...if we go 2-5 in that stretch (which we wont) Indy would have to go 7-0 (which they wont).

No. It's a weird name but, too late. We aren't named after the pants. We are named after Dutch settlers of NY who were named after a pair of pants by an author in 1809 who used the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker. But wait, there's more.
Are we really named after the pants? There's an entire family of early Dutch settlers in NY that carry the name. They were around before the author took the name.
Although Washington Irving’s stories of the Knickerbockers were fictional, the name Knickerbocker was real and the Knickerbockers were Dutch Americans. None of the Knickerbockers ever reached the level of fame attained by Washington Irving. However, this is a biography of one Knickerbocker who became a United States Congressman from the Albany, New York area.
Herman Knickerbocker [1779-1855] was the son of Johannes Knickerbocker [1749-1827]. Johannes was a descendant of Herman Jansen Knickerbocker.
So which came first? The chicken or the ridiculous name?

No one cares what it means. Do you think the "Lakers" are techically a great name? Hell no, but it's a great name cause it just makes sense (even if LA isn't known for lakes). It feels right. Same thing with the Knicks.

It made sense when it was the Minneapolis Lakers because there’s lakes there
Utah Jazz for the team that was in New Orleans is another funny one
It’s like if the Miami Heat moved to Alaska or something
At least our team name still makes historical sense

I forget the tiebreaker. Still need to win some games though with a tough schedule filled with B2Bs that will limit our depth. It's not a guarantee but. we should end up at 3.

I mean if it comes down to the last game of the year vs brooklyn and we are tied with Indy at that point I would consider throwing the game and getting the #4 seed at that point. We match up way better vs CLE in a round 2 series and that is all that should matter.
We will stay the #3 seed because I don't see us winning less that 2 games. But its not the worse thing to line up and face CLE in round 2. I'm trying to be positive but I don't see us beating BOS in a series even if we play extremely well. They matchup so well vs us.

Indy’s schedule is weak enough to where they could really win out. And they’ve been playing good basketball lately. So it’s better to just assume they’ll win out and just focus on the Knicks doing what they need to do. And our schedule isn’t easy
Hopefully they make it easier on us and have a fluke loss but I’m not banking on that

KD is already out for the Suns game and now they’re saying Brunson might come back. They’re mailing it in. So we should hopefully win that even though it’s a back to back. Winning the hawks game on the road the night before would also be crucial. We get those 2 and we are well on our way to getting that early rest the team could use down the stretch

Or perhaps not saving Mitch is smart. In the event that we face them in the playoffs, they would not have had a chance to game plan versus our big lineup.
