It’s funny how this is said every year. Same thing was being said last year.

This is completely false. Other than casuals buying too much into what the mainstream draft talking heads have to say (which is useless discourse that should be ignored), no one has ever said the 2025 draft has 3 prospects at the level of Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa and Cam Boozer.

If the 2025 and 2026 draft classes were combined, the top 4 would be some combination of Boozer/Dybantsa/Peterson/Flagg in no particular order.

Jonathan Givony claimed this draft class was the best class he’s seen in the 20 years of covering the draft.

It was an extremely hyped draft class, in many ways more hyped than next years.

Look at the draft discussions on here. I remember people hyping the Banchero draft and how it was a disastrous mistake to not have tanked. Look at how bad that class looks right now.

This upcoming draft is a good class idk what your talking about....Its rare you have a player on Flaggs level as the number one pick followed by 3 guys who could arguably be number 1/2/3 picks in any other classes in Bailey/Harper/Edgecombe.....Major potential and its also deep because us being at 7-8th im still confident we can find some decent talent There usually drafts fall off the later you pick but this draft has some good prospects even around the 9-10thish picks...

As for next years draft....Its obviously riddled with talent as well....Sim to this draft coming up....If you don't land the number 1 pick your not pulling out your hair like in most draft classes that have just 1 major talent and the rest are meh.....Thats why this and next years classes are stacked to the analysists because its not just a one or two player drafts....Sure Flagg maybe the prize but Bailey/Harper/Edgecombe all have chances to be just as good in the NBA as him....Same for 2026 there are a few guys up top who all seem equal in talent level.....

You can hate on drafts all you want but that is how you go from being a team with a first round exit/play in ceiling (which we are in that bracket next year as a team) vs having a way higher ceiling of a team that can maybe win some rounds and make it deep in the playoffs....For example we end up getting one of Flagg/Bailey/Harper in this draft the ceiling of our team drastically changes ....If we draft a meh player at 8th our ceiling stays the same.....Talent wins and the more high end talent you have the better you will be....

Could be a trade down?? A bunch of teams with multiple late picks (ie Hawks, Nets, Magic) etc…

Would be an interesting play to add multiple young assets. This draft is stocked with NCAA talent, I’m sure some of these euro guys will play out like Saraf, Hugo, Yaxel, Sergio, Traore… could be some diamonds out there

I'm all for a trade down depending on lotto results, but not for Hugo. My selection would be Noa and another piece.

Again I say, other than casuals buying too much into what the mainstream draft talking heads have to say (which is useless discourse that should be ignored). ESPN's actual draft opinions I ignore, the only useful thing they provide now is mock drafts that are relatively accurate compared to other sites in terms of how the picks will actually play out.

This I can't even really respond to, because I never involved myself in the tanking discussions of the 2021-22 season on here. All I'm going to say is, the top of the 2022 draft isn't comparable to the top of the 2026 draft IMO.

You wrote a lot for nothing. I never said this was a bad draft. The point is it’s not seen as strong as it was last year because these players are playing much better competition. I don’t think any scouts are as bullish on guys like Bailey, Edgecombe and Harper. And the same might be said next year when scouts get a better look at Boozer, Dybantsa and Peterson.

See this is the thing that you're missing in the bolded part of your post Los. No one except for the idiots that run the ESPN draft hype machine geared at casuals, have ever hyped Bailey/Edgecombe/Harper on a Boozer/Dybantsa/Peterson/Flagg level.

Like honestly, that stupid article that I hated from the day it came out where Givony said 4 guys can challenge Flagg for #1, completely ruined the discourse around this draft class for the entire season.

2025 is better than 2024 (which was dubbed weak and seems like it).

Peterson emerged this season. It used to be Dybansta and Boozer were same level as Flagg.

Dybansta, Peterson, Flagg, Boozer might be how I rank them. Flagg is hitting step back 3's and transition 3's, it's crazy and I think Flagg is still so young almost Boozer's age. Dybansta and Peterson have TMac and Kobe potential. But we'll see how they do next season in college. College wasn't kind to Ace Bailey.

Really this draft is Flagg or trade down. With Ja'Kobe and Battle emerging, Agbaji is trade sweetener.

Ya, and the hot starts by Demin and Jakucionus, have the hype carry on. Demin slowly dropping and Jakucionus now too.

I still stand on if you put de Larrea on Illinois he would do the same level and possibly shoot better. After Flagg, this draft is flatter than most want to admit.

The chances of that happening are slim to none. VJ doesn't have a bag he's a role player with poor dimensions. Peterson is already cooking guys and has 6'10 WS.

I can't comment as much about Boozer and Dybantsa but looking at their data it's far stronger than that of Bailey and Harper. Is there a chance they go to college and suck sure. But I doubt it. Boozer is a big man with touch markers shooting 83% from stripe and has been great at every level. Dybantsa's more recent data has been very strong. All of these guys have elite FTr. which only Harper touched at times during various runs. They're better athletes than him. Ace is way behind in understanding how to leverage his athleticism functionally.

And we haven't talked about Quaintance who posted excellent numbers at AZST for a 17 year old who is a physical freak with a workable dribble J and passing flashes. Might be up there next year too.

You can just bring this thread up again next year if these guys are crap so there's a small very unlikely chance we'll give you your flowers.

I am still very high on all 4 of Flagg/Harper/Edgecombe/Bailey....They are all 18/19 Years of age and show crazy amount of potential....They will only get better and better as they get to the pros and develop.....I don't think any of them 4 busts and i feel all 4 will be at least all stars in their careers...

But like i said you need high end talent to win in the NBA and in any sport....Without it you are a 7-11 come and go team....Unless you think we can make some miracle trades idk how you expect to go from "Below Average" to "Real winner" without getting upgrades from somewhere.....If your banking on Shai in the 2030s....Cool....But trying to bid on players in the market is just as much of a crapshoot as getting the number 1 pick is....

If we're talking about which one of these guys might not live up to hype based on data it would be Dybantsa so it's wait and see with him. But Peterson is 100% the goods and Boozer should be too, with Quaintance being close to that tier for me rn as a prospect.

It's funny because when you see player comps (lets use Edgecombe), you see them being compared to guys like Mathurin. I thought this draft waa loaded? Why are you shamelessly tanking just to end up with Bennidict Mathurin?

I think the only can't miss allstar in this draft is Flagg.. After that, it's anyones guess.

Until they play at college and put their skills together, it is hard to compare.
You never know if Boozer is at the level of Queen.
Ian Jackson also scored 21 at the previous MacDonald's, but it doesn't mean that panned out.

Quaintance, Drake Powell, Isaiah Evans were also from prevoius MacDonald's, maybe they got looked at this year instead.
Things may change, but this draft is already very strong.

Harper is so much better on offence than Cooper. Do you guys even watch the games?!

Coopers offensive game is sus. That isnt zion or AD more wiggins level

Trading down would be a mistake. I think people here have fallen in love with various role players and some are conjuring up 2-for-1 trades where we end up with multiple role players. This isn’t the draft to do that. We already have a ton of depth, more role players isn’t moving the needle. Draft the BPA and call it a day.

Like honestly, that stupid article that I hated from the day it came out where Givony said 4 guys can challenge Flagg for #1, completely ruined the discourse around this draft class for the entire season.

ESPN did hyped Bailey/Edgecombe/Evans, just that fans weren't into tanking last year.
Everything they do the same, hyping the next draft.

I wouldn't be surprised Harper ended up better than Cunningham
I wouldn't be surprised Queen ended up better than Banchero

You go look back at the previous 1st (outside of Wemby and Flagg), this draft could have that elite 1st overall pick below Flagg. It is just Flagg being overshaowing other prospects, not that this draft is below after Flagg

We do this every year.

Unless a guy is coming in as a borderline elite prospect, like Flagg, there's zero reason to start talking about all-star until they prove it at the next level. Better prospects then Harper have failed to become anything more than average NBA players. It happens all the time.
