The average salary of a Major League Baseball player exceeded the $5 million mark on Opening Day for the first time, according to a study by The Associated Press.
The average salary rose 3.6% to $5,160,245. That was up from a 1.5% increase last year but down from an 11.1% increase in 2023.
Juan Soto broke the previous high of $43.3 million shared by pitchers Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander under deals they agreed to with the New York Mets as he will be paid $61.9 million this season.
