But just have some pride...

We have 3 games against CLE/BOS remaining. I wouldn't be so sure we are locked in at 3 just yet. IND has a weak schedule to close out the season. That 4 game lead could disappear fast if we continue getting dominated by those two teams. Hopefully they rest players the last few games but, that's not guaranteed. We also have ATL who sometimes has our number and a good young DET team in there. Did I mention the three B2BS as well?

We are not done yet.

Having three back-to-backs in the last 10 games of the season is heinous scheduling.

If we are gunning for the #3 seed (which I assume thibs is since he tries to win every game)

it would behoove us to clinch as early as possible so that we can start giving players like OG and Hart some scheduled off days to rest up for playoffs.

I agree. We may not win tonight but we definitely need to dial in and win the hawks and suns game after to get it done asap

I would say that was the plan but then towns was a late scratch so they ended up having to play Mitch because who else was there?

For all we know towns takes tonight off too and it’s 48 mins of precious. That should be fun

Im willing to witness what this man can do in 48mins against the cavs FC

I thought that too, but here me out:

Just rest KAT and secure the win the team can win, which is the 76ers. Reduce that magic # for the 4th seed.

Because KAT or no KAT, Mitch or no Mitch, there's ZERO way this Knicks team is beating a rested Cavs team where the Knicks are on the 2nd night of a back to back, and traveling.

Rest Mitch, take the total bitch slap beat down that is coming, and move on to the next winnable game against a team that isn't good.

But you are leaving out something here.

I agree the odds of beating Cleveland without Brunson would have been miniscule regardless. However there is a big difference between losing a game by 5-10 points or suffering through another blowout loss. Basketball in general but also going into the playoffs etc. confidence and belief is absolutely key. Resting both KAT and Mitch would have jeopardized the Sixers win but it would have made for a potentially more competitive Cavs game. Remember we haven't seen Mitch in any of the games against elite competition. If his presence could have made things more competitive then it may have actually provided for a confidence boost---even if they lost a close game against the Cavs. Like "we played them tough without Brunson, with Brunson we actually may have a shot at them."

Thibs is a coach coaching from a point of fear. That's why he rides starters so hard and can't even bring in the bench if the team is up 20points with 3 minutes to go. A winner IMO rolls the dice on the Sixers game and rests Mitch and KAT. If the Knicks can't beat a tanking Philly team without Maxey, George and Embiid then they deserve that loss. A winner rolls the dice on that and tries to give his team the best chance to obtain a good result against Cleveland. That is the MUCH MUCH more important thing going forward than securing the 3rd seed earlier. The Knicks hold the tie-breaker against Indy, meaning that even if Indy went 6-1 the rest of the way, the Knicks would have retained the 3rd seed by going 3-4 the rest of the way.

This game was the last chance at a competitive game (and thus confidence boost) against an elite team. Another potential blowout loss here will be much more detrimental to the team's confidence and spirit going in the playoffs than a loss against the Sixers. And that is leaving out the fact that the Sixers are essentially tanking on purpose. They are currently 5th worst which gives them a good chance at keeping their top 6 protected pick. They do not want to slide back to 6th worst record under any circumstances as that would jeopardize their pick. If there is currently any team with zero interest at winning another game, it is the Sixers. You roll the dice on that game 24/7, any day of the week to give yourself a better chance against Cleveland. To me this is not even a question. Thibs is a loser and he coaches like a loser.

Up 4 games on the pacers plus the head to head tie breaker that makes it 5 games with 7 to go..... the 3rd seed is all but locked up

Need to start bubble wrapping these guys for the playoffs specifically OG

Tonights game is really how we handle it mentally..... lately these Big games we have come out flat and then have no fight

These guys need to prove they can mentally hang with the Cavs and not get beat up like we are the wizards or hornets

I agree. OG needs some games off and Mikal needs to play max 20 minutes. Record doesn't matter at this point. Rest KAT as well.

Would be dope if Brunson was healthy.

If we keep it under 10 I'll be only slightly pissed off instead of distraught and questioning my life choices.

Mitch should play. This is the last meaningful game of the season in regards to the playoffs. Mitch has played 13 games this season. He played 20 minutes last night. If he can't be trusted to play another 20 minutes tonight then who are we fooling? We need a decent result against a rested Cavs team. It is the most important thing left in the regular season, even more important than the 3rd seed itself.

"My bad"

No worries... the glimmer of hope is still alive for the playoffs. We get killed with mitch in their the lie is dead. Now that he is out we get to laugh at precious and tell ourselves we got a chance in the playoffs.

It worked out, though. Imagine our name was like the New York Skyscrapers or some boring ****. You don't get great names like the Knickerbockers anymore.

Is it a great name though? I mean we all love it because we're fans and it's engrained into our DNA, but it's still a pair of dumb looking pants at the end of the day. I bet 75% of regular Knicks fans don't even know that the team goes by a shortened version of Knickerbocker pants. I'm not trying to bash our beloved Knicks name here; it just gets you thinking when the full name comes up into a conversation every decade or so.

The people who wore the pants were called Knickerbockers as well, so it's named for the group of people other than the pants themselves, I think.

Better if they were named The New York Dead Rabbits or one of those other cool old time gang names.
