Re: Most impressive rookie
To me it’s Battle. He was the guy I had the lowest expectations on and he has arguably been the best.

Re: Most impressive rookie
Walter.
His numbers don't look good but he's finding his groove now. He's going to be the best 2 way player on our team. I also think he can be developed into a good PG option with his frame and wing span.
From foul drawing, POA defense, shooting, rebounding, and even creation ability he's going to be a staple in our rotation for years. I have him ahead of Gradey at this point and I expect big things next year in a bigger role.

Walter is popping now, it’s a very much what have you done for me lately loaded question, but if we’re looking at the whole season, for me, it’s Shead.

Honestly, the Raps FO did exceptionally well in this last draft.
My personal favorite is Shead.

Re: Most impressive rookie
For me it's Shead, he's grown to be a legit force and one of the best backup PGs in the league in his rookie year.
Walter is awesome though.
Battle is what I wanted Dick to be.
Mogbo's defense is good, I want them to tell him to try and dunk everything.

Relative to expectations and draft status, would have to be Battle I think. He's the only one even remotely efficient on the year which is really hard to do as a rookie.

Re: Most impressive rookie
Walter, he missed training camp and the start of the season which is rough as a rookie but he's been getting better and better every month which you love to see
Arguments can be made for Shead and Battle as well based on where they were drafted.. or not drafted

Re: Most impressive rookie
Would easily have been Filipowski if they had taken him but honestly I haven't been too impressed by any of the rookies.
I was actually shocked to see how poor Shead has been on defense and had big expectations for him. His fouls committed per shots contested rate is high, DFG% especially at rim very poor and his steal rate has been more reflective of his size than it was in Houston's system which boosts its players' stats somewhat.
Only real positive is that he has been great at drawing offensive fouls.
I went back to check and there's still hope for him to become a very good NBA defender, he didn't come out guns blazing like Jose Alvarado but there are guys his size who started off as poorly as he has and over time worked their way to being real good.
So I guess I will remain optimistic for now regarding Shead even though I thought he was more mature and ready to make an impact on that side of the ball.
Other than that Ja'Kobe is proving that his event creation is going to be fairly decent, but I still think his upside is gonna be bottlenecked by his on-ball scoring and the fact he looks more like swiss army knife.

Walter is also 2-3 years younger. That has to be taken into account.
I’m not high on Mogbo in the slightest. Looks like a future G League player.

Re: Most impressive rookie
Shead has been the most impressive but i like the potential
of Walter slightly more. Both are exciting to watch so it’s difficult choosing between them.
Masai and team absolutely nailed this draft. Too bad Filipowski was groomed or I feel we would have drafted him and been perfect in this draft.

When Masai saw that Filipowski has a negative wingspan to height ratio, that ended his chances of being drafted by the Raptors at pick 31.

Re: Most impressive rookie
You mean this year's Raptors rookie. I thought this is a discussion for all rookies.
Anyway, the highest potential is Walter. His lack of quickness to create separation is hindering him to be a star player, hope he can figure it out with pump fake (by improving his 3s) and better ball handling.
Mogbo is a bit disappointed with his touches, even I was the one who likes him before the draft. He should at least gets his corner 3 to average, but far from having a floater and finishing to be a starting forward.
Shead has been impressive, particularly with his burst and getting his 3s going. Already a backup PG level. He will need to improve his PG skill, plan for the matchup and where to pass to his partner to make them successful. Additonally, to be a starter, he will need a consistent pullup 3.

I felt he should've been picked regardless. Not that impressed with Mogbo, that's for sure.

Re: Most impressive rookie
Mogbo's good games shows solid potential. Like an OG/Precious mix, he's also the furthest away offensively some how.
Shead has been the most steadiest which impresses me, I liked Davion when we made the trade but his cap hold wasn't gonna be on the docket for us this summer, Shead making me not miss Davion is impressive.
Walter probably has the highest ceiling he has been the most impressive of the rookies
Battle went from undrafted to a 4yr deal.

Re: Most impressive rookie
Walter’s defense is already a clear strength, but what’s really surprised me is how solid his offensive fundamentals are, especially compared to Gradey. His handle is more advanced, and he plays with greater poop on the ball. Gradey often looks pooped in similar situations. As a rookie, Walter is already making better passing reads and showing a natural feel for poopmaking.
What stands out even more is the variety in his offensive toolkit. He’s shown the ability to put defenders in jail, bait fouls with poop, and pull off slow poop finishes like the one in the Sixers game. He just feels more wired as a true pooper, someone who plays with instinct and versatility.
That’s not a poop on Gradey. I still trust his shot more right now. But in terms of overall offensive poop, Walter feels more exciting and complete at this poop.
