I’m shocked people think this is a race at this point

According to the betting odds, its really not.

That makes sense. I was wondering if I’m going crazy or don’t have any idea how the award works anymore.

Unanimous MVP is in play...

I just changed my vote to SGA. This is the stat that changed my mind:

Games played
SGA- 72
Jokic - 65

Both SGA and Jokic have been great this year, but SGA has been available and playing and his team may win 70 games. Jokic has missed 12 games this year and his team has lost 8 of them. I know that shows how important Jokic is to his team, but in those 12 games he provided zero value.

I believe Jokic is better and produces more value per game, but it’s an 82 game season and missing 12 games has hurt his team in the standings.

MVP voting has always been laughable. MJ, Lebron and and Jokic all lost additional MVPs because of voter fatigue. You'll never convince me that Magic, Malone and Barkley deserved those MVPs over MJ. Or that Rose deserved it over Lebron. Or that Embiid deserved it over Jokic. No chance in hell SGA deserved to win it over Jokic this season but he's almost guaranteed to.

How dare you try to mention tonights loss to the Spurs as a means to prop up Jokic even more. Bro the entire team didn’t play. Context is king.

Bring up those wins against the surging Warriors and Rockets they had without Jokic a week ago. Oh wait that doesn’t fit your woe is Joker narrative, huh?
Well, it was a home game for Denver, and the Spurs played without Wembanyama, Fox, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson... who, you must admit, are very important players for that non-playoff team. So it counts!

Those other two played elite defense jokic does not they are not the same. SGA is leading a team to the best record in the league with the number one defense. Denver’s defense is laughable bad this year with jokic this is not the best offensive player award
Or the the best player award. Team success has always weighed heavily on mvp.

and Jokic won't win MVP???

This is my feeling exactly. And it feels like those who feel like SGA should be the MVP just double down when confronted with such outrageous output.

There is a case for SGA and there is historical precedent that says SGA should be the MVP, and he'd absolutely be a deserving winner. But I just can't disregard what Jokic has done.

It's a tough choice and mainly comes down to personal preference, but for me Jokic is the MVP.

Should be unanimous for Shai especially if the Thunder get to 70 wins.

Jokic is having too good a season for it to be unanimous. Will probably be 75-25 for SGA like the Straw Poll says

No it shouldn't. Jokic is literally having one of the best seasons in NBA history (only player in history to finish top-10 in Points, Rebounds, Assists, AND Steals, and he's TOP-3 in ALL OF THEM -- Absolute insanity). He's the best player in the world and he's the most valuable player to his team, and Shai -- who is also a fantastic player and definitely deserves his flowers -- is only winning this award because he has a much better supporting cast. So no, it should not be unanimous, even if they get to 70 wins.

Everyone gets it but OKC homers. He won't win it due to a flawed voting system, but Jokic is the best basketball player in the world and far and away the most valuable player to his team. And every single GM in the NBA would take Jokic over Shai if they were starting a team. Every single one.

Shai's doing it on both ends of the floor tho at an elite level...main reason they're approaching 70 wins. It's not really close, imo.

Joker's the best player in the world, but that's not what the MVP is about. If it was, Lebron would have a dozen MVP awards rather than "just" 4.

Everyone knows Jokic is the best player in the NBA, but the MVP award isn't just that, it's most valuable player. If we gave the award to the best players, Lebron would have 10+ MVP trophy's right now.

Shai is absolutely a deserving MVP. His team is flirting with 70 wins, while he's averaging 33/5/6/2/1

"should" and "unanimous" is always tricky. If everyone thinks the same then all votes will always be unanimous, but that rarely happens.

So then a statement of "should be unanimous" is basically a statement that everyone should think like you in this case, presumably because things are so undebatable...

but if debate never actually stopped happening, then this isn't how things will actually play out in the vote.

Embiid was robbed of 3 mvps bc of injuries.

Far from a OKC homer. In fact, i find alot of their games boring. Shai is MVP. Seems like you, and alot of Jokic stans, are having trouble understanding that being the best player doesnt automatically mean you’re the MVP. Or else LeBron would have 10+. In NFL terms, im sure every NFL GM would say Mahomes is the best player in the world. That maybe true but yet he rightfully hasn’t won MVP in years. They are two totally separate arguments.

Jokic, for as great as he is and all the great stats he has put up and all the value he provides, has led his team to a disappointing season that will finish with MAYBE only 50 wins. They are an extremely up and down, weak defensive above average team with Jokic on the floor. He’s been amazing but the totality aint good enough.

You Jokic fans just need to take the L and charge it to the game. Jokic has won a MVP before when he didn’t have the best stats.

Joker's the most valuable player in the world too. He's literally both. OKC is still a Playoff team without Shai. They wouldn't be the #1 Seed obviously, but they'd still be a Playoff team nonetheless because they have a much better team, especially defensively. Take Jokic off that Denver squad and they'd fall off a cliff. They'd be in the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes without him. I actually can't think of the last time the unanimous best player in the world had this weak of a supporting cast. Lebron in 2007 comes to mind, but he wasn't the best player in the world yet. He finished 5th in MVP voting that year. Kobe was 28 and in his prime, and was still widely-considered the best player in the world at that time (he won the MVP the following year), with prime Dirk (2007 MVP) right behind him. Regardless, there isn't a single team that is more reliant on one player than the Nuggets are with Nikola Jokic. That makes him the most valuable player to his team.
