I've been in a new music rut. Both not seeking any out, and not liking anything I was finding. Broke out of it the past couple days with Fazerdaze. Exploring their first two albums a bit, but especially loving this one.

The hype is real, I am obsessed with MJ:

Saw him live last week, blew my mind. This version doesn't do it justice, but had a killer rendition of Werewolves of London:

Oh yeah, MJ is awesome. A couple songs of his were firmly in my rotation last year; I should check out the rest of the album.

Have been a fan but was really impressed with the everybody's performance in the Tiny Desk. Didn't expect it to be so virtuous.

MJ Lenderman is top notch. Hoping to catch him and Waxahatchee on tour together.

This album by Nilufer Yanya needs some love. Great downtempo style and silky vocals. Has some Zero7 in it.

Old song, old performance- but I just stumbled upon this version of First Day of my Life @ 10:30 in and I dig it.

Some of you might enjoy this. In January I started listening to a rainy day jazz playlist on Spotify, and turned on a long ass rainy day video on Youtube to play in the background at the same time:

I'm not kidding, as someone medicated for anxiety but needs constant audio stimulation, this was a revelation. I have the combination jazz playlist and rainy youtube video on basically all day unless I'm watching a movie or TV show I really need to pay attention to. It's incredibly calming. Can't recommend it enough.

Pristine popped back up in my YT feed recently, and it had me reflecting back on some of the lesser-known, new-to-me-band indie darlings that made me feel big feels in the past 1-2 decades. Some still obscure or smaller, some much bigger, some now amongst (or literally) my favorite band(s). All of these songs made me so incredibly excited about music and made me feel like I just found the next thing.

Popped this in the discord but as we are all recognizing our mortality in our 40s (and older) let's make a playlist of good songs by bands past their prime though I suppose it could all be David Bowie. Here's an ok one by Less than Jake

Code: Select all

There can only be one Cherry Pie

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Quick shoutout to my wife and the band management company she works for-- Jesse Welles has been an awesome addition to the roster, during these times:

Ryan Adams is the Kevin Porter Jr. of musicians. Separate the art from the artist.

Listening to the new Bon Iver, feels like an aesthetic split of For Emma and the eponymous one, with a more mature approach and better musicianship than the former (but similarly straightforward lyrically) and more restrained production than the latter. Excellent. Wrinkle is much of the second disc is uncharacteristically upbeat, almost yacht rock-y in moments.
