Kristian Campbell \'Couldn\'t Pass Up\' $60M Extension With Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have finalized an eight-year, $60 million contract extension with rookie Kristian Campbell, just days after his major league debut.

Campbell, 22, who was drafted in the fourth round two years ago from Georgia Tech, made his MLB debut on March 27 as Boston\'s youngest opening day starter at second base since Reggie Smith. Through his first eight games, Campbell was hitting .423 with two home runs and five RBIs.

\"It was a life-changing opportunity for me and my family,\" Campbell said during Saturday\'s news conference at Fenway Park. \"It was something I couldn\'t pass up. They developed me from Day 1. As soon as I got drafted, made me who I am today.\"

\"Here we are today, sharing what I would call a massively significant moment for this organization because Kristian was not drafted in the first round, he was not a top prospect entering the organization,\" said Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. \"What he was is a good player who made himself a great player because of his work ethic.\"
