I don't understand the Soto hate though. I enjoyed what he gave us last season and it's not his fault the Mets wanted him more. The Yankees knew he was going to go where the money was.

No one is gonna turn down nearly a billion dollars. Fans need to look at Hal and ask why he refused to go all in at the deadline last year when we had a legit chance to win. Now the Dodgers are loaded and we spent the last 72 hours getting smacked by the Diamondbacks :noway:

I get that Soto wanted to be the highest paid player in baseball. And if someone was willing to give him that money then great for him and his family. It just leaves a sour taste in people's mouths when a player who helped their team get to the World Series after a 14 year drought ditches them for their cross town rival simply because he was offered a bit more capital. Although he does not owe anyone anything it makes him appear greedy and selfish in the eyes of many.

It also does not help that he comes off as narcissistic and dishonest. The guy referred to himself as the best player in baseball when that is far from the truth. He also indicated that the reason he chose the Mets over the Yankees was that the former had a better long turn future than the latter even though everyone and their grandma knows that he would have signed with the Bad News Bears had they been the highest bidder and caved in to his demands.

Man, fuq Juan Soto. I hope he falls way short of earning even half the money he was given.

I mean, it's all but certain that the contract will be an albatross around the Mets' next once he hits the wrong side of 30

I understand.

I have no hard feelings towards Juan over it, but I see why you don't like him.

My ire is solely reserved for Hal and Brian. They are the rot.

I can't stand those two and if I am still on this earth by then I will celebrate the day they no longer have any power and influence over the organization. But I seriously believe that Steve Cohen cares more about beating the Yankees at their own game than he does about winning. Had Hal offered Soto the Statue of Liberty Cohen was going to make sure that he offered him the Eiffel Tower. It was a game of 4D chess between Cohen and the other owners in baseball. I don't know how much more could anyone have offered the guy for him to choose them over the Mets.

Truth be told, the Yankees' plan after Soto was very unimpressive. Maybe make the Devin Williams trade and then call up Dominguez.

They should have told Soto, sign here...we have learned from our mistakes about how our cheapness cost us a World Series. We are going to get Fried, Bellinger at 1B, a stopgap 3B, Devin Williams, and you, and then go back to war after we lost to the Dodgers B team in the World Series, and be ready to beat their A team without praying that they get hurt or get unlucky.

I really am not sure if it was Hal's cheapness in terms of building a winner that turned Soto the other way. San Diego surrounded him with top ML talent and it wasn't enough to persuade him to stay. The Padres knew that he was going to try and drain them out of every last penny had they tried to re-sign him and so they did the right thing by unloading him for value in return.

And the perception that Steve Cohen has this blank check and is on his way to creating the Dodgers 2.0 is very questionable, especially with how he did absolutely nothing after signing Soto.

Do people actually believe that Soto is telling himself "I really prefer playing with guys like Clay Holmes, Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimo, Tylor Megil, and Marco Vientos since those guys are true winners while those dudes from the Bronx suck ass"? Soto is not ring chasing like 2010 Lebron or 2016 KD were but is more akin to a greedy Arod and a money hungry Robbie Cano. I believe Soto would have spurned the 1998 Yankee team for the 2024 White Sox had the latter offered him 1 billion dollars and partial ownership of the team.

Much better outing from Fried with 6 Ks. Gave up a long bomb, but the other five hits he gave up were all singles, two of them didn't even leave the infield, and they were spread out. Curve looked a lot better and the defense had his back.

Complete opposite for Cruz. Yikes.

The Yankees can count themselves lucky that they do not have to face Skenes in this series.

Noticed that we can sometimes get a single, steal 2nd and score on another single these days.

Speaking of Skenes, maybe start the long free agency countdown on him although the Pirates have team control until 2029.

EDITED: Three years of pre-arbitration and then eligible for arbitration until 2029.

Speaking of Skenes, maybe start the countdown on him. Pirates have three more season of control, maybe they try to trade him in that third season because he's gonna command A LOT of money.

He'll definitely get traded to either the Dodgers, Astros or some other team contending for a playoff spot in a few years. I doubt Cashman would even give him consideration unless he hits the free agent market.

I think it was worth trading Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito and Randy Vásquez for Grisham.
