Just gotta extend Billups too, bring the whole gang back for another year and we will be the most successful treadmill of all time.

At this point the team seems to just be operating on complete autopilot.

Just keep things as is, let deals materialize vs being proactive to fix things.

I miss Paul Allen.

Yup, at this point I don't see Billups leaving unless he wants to be gone.

Once all the negative people are out of the way… awesome! Team is clearly improving and on the way up. Cronin deserves a window to continue improving this team and steal away more young studs (like Deni and Toumani). Feel good about our drafting process right now too.

I’ve not been pro-firing Cronin as some, but man I do want more assertiveness out of him and proving his has some sort of vision. Yes, the team he’s put together is improving and that’s good. But without an All NBA caliber player to build around, he’s just creating a great supporting cast team without an anchor.

Paul Allen would have turfed Joe by now just like he did with Rich Cho (more likely just never given Joe the gig). GMs need to be more assertive and not passive. That’s my biggest complaint with Cronin.

The funny thing is, they rewarded him for doing the easy part, being a sub mediocre but non play in team, that maybe next year could be a play in team if everything breaks right again.

Moving up from a bottom dwelling team is the easy part. Any team could do that if they CHOSE to, most of the other bottom dwelling teams chose to remain bad in hopes of taking an exponential jump in a few years.

The problem for Cronin is now the hard part begins and if he didn't lay the foundation right, and it sure appears he didn't, then actually improving significantly from this point just became a steep mountain and all he did was buy himself a few years until he is fired for not progressing enough.

How happy will fans be if they don't make the play in next year, after their performance this year? Or if in the next 3 years they are in\out of the playoff picture and when they are in, they get bounced in the 1st round, that will grow old real quick and you won't find any sympathy from me when it does. I have seen this show way too many times.

Completely agree.

Cronin has had some great moves with Toumani and particularly Deni (as the Deni trade was perhaps more deliberate than the Toumani one). The Lillard deal was a good one too and he did a great job of resisting Miami.

I do entirely agree regarding my qualm being our lack of direction. Trading Simons away and keeping our draft pick will be a good improvement in this regards though.

Congratulations to Cronin.

IMHO, good work with Schmitz on the last 3 drafts and the trades (overall) — especially Deni and Toumani — following Dame’s (understandable) “request.”

Ayton, Simons, Grant, Time Lord, and Thybulle are the current, harder, trade moves. Trade at least 3 of the 5 for “decent” returns.

Billups has his strengths, but Cronin has to make the tough call. Hire a better HC. His guy. A dynamic coach for both ends.

Almost anyone on this board could have done a better job than Cronin. He's not a very smart guy and he's been a part of every move this team has made since OLshey first took over. He was an assistant GM during that tenure and there have been quotes that prove this. He's an idiot and just as responsible for wasting Dame's prime, and ultimately trading him for the garbage that we got in return. Deni was not a part of that deal and Toumani just happened to become a stud. He didn't have a crystal ball ok? If anything that was on Schmidts.

Ayton is an albatross deal, so is Grant, he stifled the development of this team with these wins and not trading away these bad deals and chuckers. There's a few brain dead sycophants on this board that i wont call out personally but i really mean it when I say the average realgm blazers posters could have done a better job than Crolshey.

Well, on one hand it actually could be a lot worse. On the other hand it could actually be a lot better.

I've given Cronin a pass for draft and trades, for the most part. His handling of the rebuild is a complete disaster, however.

I think all this shows is that Cronin is willing to kiss the hand of Kolde and Kolde likes it that way.

We are the washington wizards. As mentioned already I'm almost certain there's a Chauncey extension coming and frankly I'd be surprised if it's not just enough that we refuse to fire him for the duration of the contract barring a reversion to 25 wins or less.. Probably means Ant will be extended this off season as well because why not pay a 20 ppg player who plays zero defense 30-40?

Sadly I think this means Jody is here to stay for the next decade along with the volleyball team "nice guy" front office not fit to shift lead a McDonald's.

Optimism, first. The Monday (and day) after game 82, April 14, may be a bit quick to not pick up Billup’s contract option, but soon after. Once that’s done, hire a new coach, and May 12 and the lottery settles the draft order. Good times.

I’m on board for that narrative until and unless a less hoped for reality happens with all of the above. No need to speculate on the negative. I’d rather start with optimism.

Typically getting that top level talent is the hardest part of any rebuild, we wouldn't be the first team to assemble a solid team that is missing that. Teams that have a player that is clearly that is not likely trading them, or if they ever do they seem to just call up the Lakers.

This is like someone critiquing your house and claiming, damn if your place was like way bigger and nicer it would be a damn nice house. I'm sure Cronin wants to find a Lillard level player or better, it's just easier said than done.

Lillard also was nowhere near an elite player in his first two years in the league, we knew he might be pretty damn great but no one was speculating he would be one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league at some point. So the notion that we know exactly what a 24 year old Sharpe will look like is just not true, Scoot also is nowhere near his final form.

Team does have some pieces in place but has to pick a lane on how they move forward.

One has to think they know their future is to build around the players that led to some wins in the second
half of this season. Unlikely they can find a taker for Grant but let's say they do enough to have a reasonable
chance at .500 next season.

Cronin's job is to have a plan to add the pieces to get next season's team to .500. Adding another solid vet to
their young core would seem to be a must.

Skip to 02:24 for their take on Cronin. I don't really listen to the fan, but it's nice to hear some objective and more accurate insights on the Blazers from local media. So many of them are straight up ass kissers, especially that nerd no one can stand but for some reason has a platform.

Cronin giving himself an extension is such a brutal chefs kiss for how effed up this season went. Like really, any objective basketball mind can see this guy is not good at his job. Mediocre at best and that's right on brand for this organization..

The extension is just saying they don't care. He's a place holder until Jody either is forced to sell or someone offers 10 billion dollars or something insane.

Lillard was an all-star in his 2nd season when he was 23. Sharpe will be in his 4th season next year and will turn 23 a month after the season ends.

Dame averaged 21 points and 6 assists in his 2nd season. Sharpe is averaging 18 points and 3 assists in his 3rd season. Dame averaged 25 points and 7 assists in his 4th season. Does anybody expect Sharpe to match that next season? Yes, I know Dame was older at each stage, but at a certain point, earlier in careers, experience begins to trump age differences.

don't get me wrong...I have optimism for Sharpe's upside. But I think people are forgetting that Sharpe will turn 22 in a month. And in this case, forgetting how good Dame was at 22, and at 23. Dame hit the series clinching three against Houston at the end of his 2nd season, and that was after he had aleady hit several game winners. He was an alpha dog at 23. Sharpe may not have much alpha inside

I'd still love to add a big, veteran SG to the mix to play the Wesley Matthews role for Portland.

Return to Portland Trail Blazers
