Madness Draft - R1 - durantbird* vs Laimbeer

Post#1 » by durantbird » Mon Apr 7, 2025 2:58 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 24' - 19.8
Clyde Drexler 91' - 16.3
Herbert Jones 24' - 7.7
Gerald Wallace 10' - 12.4
Chris Webber 97' - 16.2

Morris Peterson 04' - 7.2
Bo Outlaw 96' - 3.0
Dereck Lively 24' - 5.4

88/88

SGA 40 / Drexler 8
Drexler 30 / Peterson 18
Herb 32 / Wallace 14 / Peterson 2
Wallace 24 / Webber 14 / Outlaw 10
Webber 24 / Lively 24

Vs

Karl Anthony Towns (38) / Andrew Lang (10)
Elton Brand (38) / Dorian Finney-Smith (10)
Joe Johnson (38) / Dorian Finney-Smith (10)
Mo Williams (28) / Richard Jefferson (20)
Magic Johnson (38) / Mo Williams (10)

Matchup
- Defensive assignments: SGA vs Williams, Herb vs Magic, Drexler vs Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace vs Towns, Webber vs Brand.
- We match up nicely here. Herb shuts down their offensive hub, and Drexler SGA Gerald provide very solid defensive wing rotation alongside Peterson off the bench. Our only relative weak spot defensively is Webber but Wallace Outlaw Lively provide more than enough rim protection support, and Webber is actually solid. But on the other hand, a defense anchored by Towns, young Brand and Lang is certainly worse than Webber, Gerald, Lively and Outlaw.
- Laimbeer has nice offense but I think we've got much better two way balance and great offensive tools ourselves led by SGA Drexler Webber Gerald. Laimbeer has no one to defend SGA or Drexler.
- Notice this is younger Brand who's not as good as later versions of him.

Karl Anthony Towns ( 2024 ) 15.3
Elton Brand ( 2002 ) 12.6
Joe Johnson ( 2012 ) 15.5
Mo Williams ( 2009 ) 13.9
Magic Johnson ( 1985 ) 11.7

Andrew Lang ( 1991 ) 3.0
Dorian Finney-Smith ( 2021 ) 7.8
Richard Jefferson ( 2012 ) 7.7

87.5

Karl Anthony Towns (38) / Andrew Lang (10)
Elton Brand (38) / Dorian Finney-Smith (10)
Joe Johnson (38) / Dorian Finney-Smith (10)
Mo Williams (28) / Richard Jefferson (20)
Magic Johnson (38) / Mo Williams (10)

A defensive interior of Chris Webber and Gerald Wallace is a glaring weakness in about any match-up, and we have the big guys in KAT and Brand to take even greater advantage. Magic is the ultimate floor general and this group provides weapons both in the half-court and running game. I really think we roll offensively.

On defense, Brand/Webber, KAT/Jones, Joe Johnson/Drexler, Magic/Wallace, Williams/SGA. Brand is a solid rim protector. This is KAT after he made his defensive jump. Johnson got all-D votes several seasons, Mo was a disruptive defender, and Magic a solid team guy. A pretty sound unit.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
