Re: Cronin Gets Extension
I'd rather just take Clifford or Fleming with a mid first than add a veteran. It just depends on whether we rise or fall after the lottery and if we can get a pick for any of our current vets that are more likely viewed as negative assets.
We need the most talent we can get on the most team friendly deals possible and we do that through the draft. I will concede that Deni and Camara are the exceptions here but that's extremely rare for Joe, or the blazers in general.

I mean, Matisse as the backup SG to Sharpe assuming Simons is traded is checking alot of those Wes boxes.
He has played very well since returning from injury -
18.6mpg / 6.2ppg / 40% 3PT / 2.2spg / 0.5bpg
If Sharpe was consistent having MT as the backup for 18mpg would be a pretty ideal ying to the yang. Still end of the day I am fine w/ Sharpe as the starter next year, MT as the backup and ideally a young guy taken SR as the 3rd stringer (With Camara / Deni actually getting most 3rd string minutes).

I'm still a bit leary of Thybulle. I wanted him gone, but he's pleasantly surprised me since coming back from injury. It's a pretty small window though. If he could maintain for a season, I would be more than happy to keep him around.

He is lowest on my list of vets to trade - which means he is likely gone this offseason lol.
RWIII was that guy for some time, but I am just plain out at this point.
Granted he also might be the easiest to move of all the vets unfortunately.

Grant is the only guy on my list of MUST trade players. I'd like the others gone, but they come off the books in a year if nothing else (so long as numbnuts doesnt extend them. .

Grant shouldnt be a MUST trade guy b/c we are going to have to attach assets to move him, and that is stupid IMO for a rebuild team.
Simons is closer to a MUST trade as he actually is movable, IMO, without attaching assets (And IMO could pull a late FRP).

The Deni and Camara acquisitions make him worth of a resign IMO. Both were home run moves, and he doesn't really have any egregious whiffs.

Re: Cronin Gets Extension
I see both sides of the "should the Blazers have tanked this season, or, try to win as many as games as possible" debate.
Disclosure, I am old school. I was taught to do the best I can, and try to win, always! If I lost, but did my best, learn from my mistakes and develop. It was called, building character.
However, I do not see tanking in the NBA as a character flaw. It is the symptom of the NBAs flawed business model. When 1/4 of the teams decide their best option is to tank, that is a sign of an unhealthy sport.
With 30 teams competing for a ring. If every team was playing on a level field. The Blazers should win a ring every 30 years. About 3.3% of the seasons.
The field is not level. Between the disadvatages of a small market, 2 hours flight time to the nearest teams resulting in the most travel time, and having to compete for free agents with a 9.9% state income tax while Florida and Texas have no state income tax. Just making the playoffs is a struggle for the Blazers.
My point is. The NBA is entertainment for its fans. The Blazer product this season developed into some of the best entertaining BB since the Drexler seasons.
I'm looking forward to next season. And hope they win more games.
Pardon errors, legally blind in one eye, and my good eye needs cataract surgery. But hope to see fun entertaining Blazer BB next season. Regardless of how dysfunctional the NBA becomes.

Was wondering about all the "vets" since they have been injured.
I haven't seen/noticed Grant or RWIII on the bench recently... Have they been around (and I just not notice) or have they been MIA?
When I've seen Ayton - he seems engaged and interacting with the team.
When I seen Simons - it looks like he is just 'there'. Not engaged. Almost like he's counting down the time before he can leave.

I've not heard what that might be. A late first round pick means nothing to me and if that would move Grant, I would jump at it. If you disagree, that's fine. That's just what I would do. Grant is in the way of both Avdija and Camara. Simons is in the way of Scoot. Dont get me wrong, both should be moved. However, I can live with not getting rid of Simon's if there is no move available because he can walk in a year. Grant can't walk for 3-years. That's what makes him a must move in my eyes.

They’re both pretty must move for me. You can’t have a 3rd season of Scoot off the bench. You either need to give him the reigns next year or end the Scoot Henderson experiment.
Grant, rumblings are, was pretty unhappy on the team this year. Not causing problems unhappy, but clearly not engaged in the slightest. He also creates a real problem for the lineup since with his age and contract, he needs to start, which means one of Camara, Deni or Sharpe needs to come off the bench. He creates a real logjam, which is why he should be gone as well. Unfortunately I just don’t see how you can move Grant after the absolutely garbage season he just had without giving up something of value like the Blazers first round pick this year (assuming it stays where it’s slotted).
So they are equally must moves imo.

Where did you hear this? Any idea of the cause?
Not surprised at all. Just curious how legit this is...
I was guessing that may be why Grant has been 'injured' the last several weeks. It became obvious that Deni & Tou needed & deserved to start. Instead of coming off the bench- Grant decided he was 'injured'...

Yeah, I would not give up a high pick. I'm good with the Boston pick because it's gonna be 20 or higher. Maybe you do the worst of Boston/Portland pick so there's some protection involved.

Would trading Grant to the Lakers be that hard without assets attached?
The final year contracts of Vincent and Kleber get most of the way there for Grant. Their value in trade is as expiring contracts, IMHO. Is Knecht worth Grant? No. He “counts” as a 1st rounder, I guess.
Reuniting Dame with his friend Grant? Portis + Connaughton gets most of the way there.
These are not the only relatively lopsided trades to jettison Grant’s years and dollars soon and at a loss.

Not trading away the vets, promising Grant a mega extension and then giving him a po on top of what was already an overpay, norman powell trade. Also you could add not tanking in a generational draft as a botch.
Don't get me wrong deni and toumani were good additions but joe has been a far cry from flawless.

Leary of Thybulle? Great punk band name, but what’s there to be leery about? He makes 11mil a year for like one or two more years. Hes just a MLE player and fully fine coming off the bench. Hes a non factor.

He played less than 10 games this year. There’s absolutely zero chance.

Re: Cronin Gets Extension
Grant is gone this season one way or another. A team like LA or GS would probably take him since they have no problems with the luxury tax historically. Mia always wants semi washed older players. Denver might work given the need to make Jokic happy and steer away from the weird moves their now fired gm was making, I could even see Philly taking him but idk how with PG13 on the books. Chicago does weird stuff, maybe we can send him there for our pick back? I think he has neutral value to a contender and negative value to anyone else. I'm fine with getting nothing in return but adding assets to him is malpractice after the deal you just signed him to. Probably enough cause to not extend your GM that did the deal..
