Show some love to Giannis man.
Clamps down on defense and gets it done offensively too.
Check the respective games between Giannis and Jokic against the Twolves to see the impact of a two-way player.
And save your posts about Jokic and the amount of steals he has. FOH!

Giannis is having a phenomenal year, but everyone loves offense, stats and teams with the pickup game "you score on me, i score on you" mentality of the Nuggets. So he is once again overshadowed by Jokic, and no one will mention Giannis is doing it with a subpar roster around him as well.

Giannis is great but I think he's pretty clearly a bit behind SGA and Jokic in terms of overall impact. He's 3rd for sure though.

So, drawing the connection to Robinson/Hakeem is entirely appropriate, but calling that a "mistake" is not imho.
I think the reality is that Robinson was a better regular season player than Hakeem, but in the head-to-head matchup Hakeem had the advantage. Perfectly fine to weight that heavily in who the greater player is, but we're talking about a regular season award here, and it is what it is.
Now, if you're interested in doing all-season (regular season & post-season) award thing - where you'd see a player like Hakeem get the nod in a year like that - check in over on the PC board as the season ends. It'll be stickied thread.

hard to believe all that talk about defense with the mediocre year the bucks are having. an a lot more likely explanation? giannis goes through the motions most of the time and turns it up from time to time.
the difference between offense and defense is that you can live off of your reputation on defense forever. but if an mvp suddenly went from scoring 30 ppg to 20, nobody would ever mention him again as some kind of offensive genius that gets it done on offense

Jokic. That team would be deep in the lottery without him. The Thunder would still be in the playoff mix without SGA. Hence, Jokic is much more valuable.

Why do people keep saying this? Tracy McGrady should have been unanimous MVP in 2003 by this logic then right? Be consistent at least.

How am I not being consistent? Or are you clumping one human's opinion with others?
TBH, I just think Jokic is better anyway.

it's really funny people keep repeating this, but have you seen the western conference standings? wtf does the playoff mix mean? play-ins? well... the kings and luka-less mavs are in the play-ins and those are abject failures of teams
or are you actually implying this thunder team would have 50+ wins without SGA? because that's actually delusional and not backed by any stats/math ever

Re: 2024-25 NBA MVP Discussion Thread (Pt. 4: Who is the MVP?)
At this point this thread is just people saying "who should be the MVP" instead of "who will be the MVP" to be honest.
Cause the award is already decided, for better or worse.

OKC wont make PO w/o SGA. Yes they would be close, maybe PlayIn, but not PO team. Chet played 30 games and JDub missed 12. Who would score on this team? With Shai scoring on good % and shooting a lot of FT lets team to set on defence. And dont look at Shai on/off defrtg, b/c when Shai is off, OKC doesnt play against starting or closing opponents units.

It's a regular season award, just saying.
Jokic deserved to win MVP last season over Shai/Luka and he chocked in the POs.

Re: 2024-25 NBA MVP Discussion Thread (Pt. 4: Who is the MVP?)
I watched about ten full games of SGA, and seen referee created Superstar. This is disgusting.
SGA's main offensive move is push defender with his off-arm (till 90s it was offensive foul) . If defender fall back then SGA make an uncontested shoot. If defender hold his ground referee calls defensive foul.
Last two games before this he doesn't got that fouls and OKC was humiliated by opponents. But last night is one of the refeere wearing OKC uniform obviously.
Silver decide to make his own version of Jordan like Stern make Jordan. (pushing for fouls removed from the game when Jordan started to use it for his space)
I was hate it this , I hate it this now. They changed the game to wwe for selling jersey and shoes.

i really do not understand how anyone could see this (above) and this (below) and not pick Jokic as MVP. It is truly open and shut since nobody in history has come close to doing what he is doing.

Well, the voters who will vote for the award won't pick Jokic as MVP so there's that, so apparently it's not truly open and shut.

These old heads are lame for clowning on Shai. I'd say they're just jealous, but based on what I know about each of these these guys individually, I don't think they are. I honestly just think they're immature idiots and should be treated as such.

Well, I vote with my head: I'd give my vote to SGA as of today. But my heart would be saying, "I hope I'm the only one who votes for SGA, and everyone else votes for Jokic." I do think it's close enough that either can be easily justified. Also, I guess there's an ever-decreasing chance that Jokic may flip my own vote in these last three games. Or SGA resting could flip me: I'm one who counts all 82 games equally.

Even if Shai sits for all of them, he'll have more games played than Jokic. The Jokic games will be meaningful, though, given the wild logjam in the West. If he somehow continues his absolutely monstrous run and the Nuggets win out to secure a top half seed, it could cause some voters to think "Just maybe..."
But I'm with lethalizer. I think it's Shai's award at this point, and I'm totally fine with that despite being a big Jokic fan. Shai was amazing and really drove the Thunder's offense in a way that took them from a team that would be part of that logjam, to one of the super elite regular teams that we've seen.

It's not about who played more. It's measuring how much Jokic's play has been better versus how many more games SGA has played. Right now I'd tilt it in SGA's favor, but I'm pretty sure if, for example, SGA sat 3 games and Jokic played his averages for 3 games, I'd tilt back to Jokic.
