I still don't really believe Nurse is getting fired.

But he's coaching as if he's trying to get fired.

I want some continuity for once. This season has been abysmal because our star players weren't available. Keep Nurse and let him tinker with available talent next year.

Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards

All jokes aside. Nick Nurse has the replacement guys playing well. Well enough to be competitive but just not well enough to win the close games. Good coaching job Nick.
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

I see no reason what so ever to fire Nurse. In fact, I think he got the memo with how the season was going to play out once Embiid was shelved. I would bet that he's on the same page with Morey about how this should play out. Tank the season, recoup your draft pick and start again next season.

Is his system obsolete?

That should answer the question in whether we need to fire or retain him

I think the system is very much in Vogue, but if he's going to not adjust out of it when the talent changes... It is a problem.

His system is DHO heavy and is better for guards to play off ball. It was that way for Kyle and DeRozan when he got there. Kyle and FVV.... But the system needs a player you can play off the nail with like Gasol, Draymond, Joel, Jokic, Sabonis, Pascal even.

So basically with Joel, keep him.... Without Joel... They'll suffer

Any offensive system with Embiid as the hub is obsolete. He lives by scoring in a way the NBA has determined to be suboptimal.

Any defensive system with Embiid (pre-injury) is elite. Doesn't matter the system.

I don't think the system matters much with Embiid. Now, that likely has to change now with the post-injury Embiid. He needs to acquiesce the offense to the guards and there needs to be more thoughtful personnel and scheme on defense because Embiid cannot paper over everything on that end anymore. But I think that is much more about Embiid mentally acknowledging he's not the player he was before anymore moreso than anything a coach does and decides.

Ownership doesn’t care about the Sixers it’s just a moneymaker for him. He’s not gonna fire anybody and have to pay them.

Absolutely they will both be back. Right now the PG signing looks like a major eye sore on Morey's tenure here. With that being said, George can and will bounce back next season. I think JoJo will be back too and we'll run this show back. Hopefully we're keeping our pick to add to it.

I mean, *if* we keep the pick, we have successfully accomplished what a lot of us were hoping to do in setting ourselves up to pull a San Antonio/Duncan scenario. We just had all our big name players injured, hopefully other guys developed some confidence. Strike gold on the pick, and come back and dominate. If we are able to keep Yabu, he and Bona (IMO) have shown that they can play well if Embiid only plays 1/2 the regular season (no back to backs, lots of rest).

Add in a bit of health and a solid rookie, Grimes on a one year deal while he waits for his pay day the next year, and I think you have the chance to quickly forget this season.

Did I mention I'm ever the optimist?
