tre is the most talented 2 level scorer on the planet at 19

the problem is that if he goes forward in love with the middy and hunting them instead of hunting the rim more and finding guys off the dribble it's gonna bottleneck his AST% and he's going to have few paths to being more than just a run of the mill volume scorer for a mediocre team

i discussed this in-depth with someone recently but if tre is doomed when it comes to getting to hole he MIGHT still be worth a high pick but only if he ends up on a team that will demand he shoots more 3s and less middies to where his 3par teeters on .600 and also keeps his TOV% down to the special place it's at right now while still dishing out like 4 AST/36.

it's a really tough call for me rn

I’m taking him top5 because of his ability to shoot the 3, and especially the pull up fastbreak 3 which is an unguardable shot unless you’re trailing him on the play and he doesn’t see you. That shot alone is enough for me to warrant a top 5 selection for Tre Johnson in this class.

yeah he has crazy deep range but is he gonna start launching circus shots like steph every game to get his 3par up or is he too hard wired to hunt for midrange jumpers. he has ZERO room for error given how weak he is on glass and D and getting to rim.

The thing is, that almost makes him a microwave 6th man type in the NBA, and I still take him top 5.

DQ pissed off that Willard abandoned Maryland

Raps always concerned about the loyalty of prospects when it comes to resigning here instead of bolting for USA.

DQ seemingly loyal AF.

In my opinion RJ is a seriously flawed player. It’s nice that he’s Canadian, but something as elementary as going right is going to get him shut down in the playoffs.

In fairness, next year he will be around the 70th highest paid player. Of course he has flaws. Most do.

I am not tied to keeping or trading RJ. I don't think we should just be dumping a 24 year old capable of posting 21+pts a game. And he has gotten better. But he also shouldn't be an untouchable. No one on this roster should be.

It's why I am looking forward to this offseason...what does Masai do. I have said I can see him making a sneaky trade. Time will tell.

Tre will get selected top 5 and if he isn't that's a mistake.

I think the top 8 is fairly obvious at this point

Flagg
Harper
Fears
Bailey
Edgecomb
Queen
Tre
JRich

Gets weird after that, I like Kon, KJ, Essengue, Traore, Newell, Demin, Fleming

Id stay as far away as possible from Maluach

He's in that next tier after Flagg and Harper to me.

His archetype/profile and results as a freshman speak for themselves IMO.

Solid prospect. I like VJ and Queen more for us, and I'd take Ace 2nd (acknowledging that it's high risk, I think the reward is an unguardable closer).

So that leaves him essentially tied for 4th.

Carter Bryant at #6 is interesting to me, seems high, but for a team with multiple FRP's he could be a great selection

Yet Tankathon has Bryant at #36, which is obviously way too low.

He and Flemming would be nice fits for the Raps,
but gotta go BPA.

that's his Big board you guys discussing, his Mock draft is coming (next tab)
every **** year ppl do this about the Ringer mock vs. big board

Not to mention freethrow his shooting. What is wrong RJ? Who hurt you? It looks like a traumatic experience every time he steps to the line.

Please no to Maluach. He has bust written all over him, it might as well be a tattoo.

Tre is nice but I don’t see a need for him on our team unless we have a trade with RJ/Gradey ready to go. We have way too many wings right now.

It is not black and white.
I think most people do not believe he reaches his ceiling, but being Mark Williams can still be a starter in the league, just that there would be better prospect in the top 10.

People said the same thing for VanVleet, then Siakam, now Barrett. Because he is not a good fit for a very flawed near max player. Would not be surprised people said the same thing for Ingram next year.

Its funny I have a weird feeling we are going to get the 2nd pick and get Harper. Then maybe his brother comes back on another 2-way.

what if maluach is legit good and biases exist against him because he's african and there have been a slew of african busts over the past while

2nd longest standing reach in NBA
78% rim finisher
16.5 ORB% (21.3 in conf play but we can ignore, just a crazy sample of dominance via size though)
18.75 yrs at draft
duke basketball education

he just does many things functionally well for a center

then you factor in

77% FT
projectable shot to stretch floor + PnP

this again is at 18 yrs old and the kid started playing on outdoor courts in sudan at 13. in the video apparently khaman felt blessed just to have an open gym he could access 24/7 and proper footwear. with the footage we have of him at 17 the ability to play and hang with grown men given his late start is impressive.

take a guy like mo bamba - was like 1.5 yrs older than maluach when drafted which is significant and had a sub .600 TS% in college while maluach's AST:TO ratio was 2x better

bamba's struggles in NBA largely due to his TS% among other issues that maluach probably can avoid
maluach has been given path forward as screener and roller to rim which he can be nba elite at executing while being able to add layers to offensive game with shot as time goes on even if he's not gonna be a post up threat, bamba was 20th percentile PPP as roll man at texas

i see maluach-bamba comps all the time but they legit share so little in common, i would suggest khaman is more along lines of jarrett allen w/ probably some of brook lopez's shooting juice

and jarrett allen was a masai target fwiw

Jarrett Allen's possession breakdown this year

29.8% cuts
28.1% rolls
14.7% putbacks
11.5% transition

khaman's breakdown this year

29.2% cuts
22.0% putbacks
21.6% rolls
8.4% transition

with the rest of the looks being insignificant compared to those

is khaman going to fail at cutting, orbs, rolling and transition scoring in NBA? doubt it.
he doesn't need much more, doesn't even need to develop a post up game OR his shot

but the shot should be coming as the icing on the cake

i think i sold myself hard on him digging into allen/bamba stuff
