First, I doubt that this is actually true and second, it doesn't matter either. He's now much more of a relevant prospect than he was back in Iona and there's much more to talk about his game and how it translates to the NBA. Not really surprising that people talk more about him now compared to back then, is it? (And yes, I am aware that the post is essentially just the equivalent of the infamous ‘First!’ comment under many YouTube videos that EvanZ has patented for RealGM).

Evanz mentioned him in 2022.

A lot of back patting going on for a guy that supposedly despises that.

yes and btw he did enter the transfer portal...great prediction on my part, and it took him 2 more years to get draft buzz.

As you take a victory lap when Clayton stock is at the tippy top years later.. where all you did was mention his name. Just really funny when you think about it is all.

Re: Walter Clayton Jr
Walter Clayton Jr is the safer version of Reed Sheppard. Similar size (Clayton Jr. has a slightly larger frame imo but similar heights), Clayton Jr is more experienced and should be able to make an impact from day 1 compared to some of the guards of the past couple of seasons (Dillingham, Sheppard, Carrington, Scoot, George).
I wouldn't be surprised if he sneaks into the Top 7 or 8.

I didn't just randomly mention his name. He was on my radar because he was an interesting prospect 4 years ago. That's not lap taking. It's running a marathon.

Drafted in the top 7-8?
I would be really surprised.

I don’t understand how a single random post 3 years ago means anything or you were “on him”
You clearly didn’t have any conviction with that post. If you post enough about players you will “hit one” I guess.
I’m not even trying to be a dick and I find your insight valuable. I’m just being real

I had exactly the right amount of conviction that he warranted at that time. Just being real.

Carrington, Scoot and George all made an impact from Day 1. All started a lot of their rookie seasons and as 19/20 y/o whereas Clayton is 22 y/o
Scoot
14/4/5 shooting 33% from three
Carrington
10/4/4 shooting 34% from three
George
13/3/4 shooting 34% from three
If you told me Clayton spent next season in the G-League I wouldn't be surprised one bit. There's very little chance he's starting for anyone next season like the above three. Teams really aren't putting a lot of value on 22 y/o 6'2" shooting guards

When I say impact, I mean playing meaningful minutes for a team that is actively trying to make the post-season.
You're right that all of Scoot, Carrington, and George played NBA minutes, but they weren't impactful in winning basketball games. Clayton Jr is also much older than them, which helps his case.

Clayton being picked in the top 7-8 would only be better for his pocketbook. If he falls to the mid-lotto, he may end up in a better situation organizationally.

7-8 is the definition of mid-lotto.

Sorry, I meant mid-first. Somewhere around 13-18.

You guys are so wild with your takes on here. Solid late first round pick.

even then, for who? Which playoff team doesn't already have much better players on their roster to fill the role Clayton might fill? I don't think Clayton would start as a 22 y/o on a bad team either like the above for obvious reasons. There are a lot of guys like Clayton on the end of benches or in the G-League that simply don't play. I like him. He CAN play. It just takes the stars aligning and usually several years for the chances to present themselves.
I see his career being similar to Cory Joseph and despite being on competitive teams I wouldn't classify anything as him getting "meaningful minutes" But yeah, experienced guys like him can carve out a nice career provided they're ever given the chance. Which is sad because there's a lot of guys like this. Too many. That's why I believe we could expand by 2-4 franchises.
