That's good gamble for under $6 million over the 3 years.

Depends on a team's batting average in finding and developing talent late in the draft, I guess. Filipowski was signed for 12 million, 9 million of it is guaranteed. That's a lot of money for one 2nd rounder in a small market.

Mogbo I signed for a first year $1.8m, Filipowski for $3 million. So the Jazz bought another year by paying more across the four years. For Mogbo, it's kind of a bet on himself situation, he will get to his second contract sooner, and it will be worth it if he becomes a good pro. Part of the Raptors thinking in going smaller but shorter is likely two-fold, they had multiple draft picks to sign, and also, keeping next season's payroll a little lighter in case they take on future salary via a trade this season.

Agree that he should get the starting slot, his play has earned it so far. Will be a tough go for sure and would expect some struggles.

Surprised how little games Mogbo has with the 905 so far. Yes he can contribute on the Raptors now (except getting points) but I want more from him and it's his best interest to tryout more different offensive moves (floaters, under the basket not dunks, mid range, pull up 3 etc) to speed up his learning curve

He's our best draft pick by contribution so far. I would rather have him trying to get out of his comfort zone in the GLeague. Once he gets a good touch and shot going he's going to be very special. He does a great job of turning defense into offense and it's reflected in his stats.

I think he's fully capable handle wise to attack the rim more. He has to just be relentless and this will open up his shot for him. Defensively he's great man to man, he has a great wing span which should help that span to help defense. I want to see him punish teams as a help defender.

Next season and beyond I want to see a better 3pt shot. If he can hit it at 40% he'll be a much better contributor in the half court. That's far fetched. But something more realistic would be him developing as an interior scorer with a softer touch.

Mogbo only had 3 FGAs today against the Rockets....I would rather seeing him making 15 FGAs in the gleague.

Read on Twitter

Can someone get data on his defensive FG% against different positions? I feel like the number at 45% is higher because he had to guard centers. I'm thinking he should be ranked higher when not guarding centers.

sucks cause flip, post, and wells were all there...prospects that are too small to be a big man and cant shoot to play outside are forever on my no draft list but at least scottie was happy

modern nba is literally one big big and everyone stands outside to spread floor

Mogbo is going to be a better long term piece. He's learning how to guard centers and eventually he and Scottie with a true stretch big will give us many options. If they can learn how to shoot it's a big game changer for us. Just imagine if Mogbo has a Shead like growth with his shooting next season. The fact he's already putting them up is a good sign.

I’m giving up on him. This will probably bite me in the ass and I’ll be glad to be wrong but his touch is so bad, it’s Rudy Gobert levels of bad.

He’s going to be 24 at the start of the next season and there isn’t some hidden latent ability. He’s played basketball his entire life, this isn’t a Siakam situation.

It sucks because he’s clearly a positive on defence but I just don’t think his offence ever becomes good enough to be more than a 9/10th man on a good playoff team.

Despite his age, he's definitely still a late bloomer. He wasn't even able to dunk until he was a junior in HS. Also went to 4 colleges in 4 years from JUCO to D1.

His touch is so bad right now that he can really only improve there. I think of how bad Ochai was at finishing here last season and he's made huge strides this season, so it's not a completely hopeless situation.

Is 9/10th man on a good team a bad result given where he was drafted?

The Raptors are his 5th team (6th if you count the 905) in 5 years.

Give him a chance to really settle in.

Also, I thought this earlier in the season, and I still think some of the games Scottie has been playing this season, is like a tutorial for Mogbo.
Does anyone else see that?

9th/10th man out of a 2nd round pick is a win
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Logically speaking, help me understand the rationale behind, SR college players not being able to get better in the NBA? Like why do so many ppl hold that sentiment

11 ppg, 7 rpg and 5 apg in April. He is showing something late here, at least enough to be in rotation next year and make impact.

I love that he finally discovered that he is really long, athletic and strong and that he can actually dunk the ball.

He is looking a lot more comfortable to close the season and that is encouraging.

He has the physical tools and skills...for him it would be confidence that is his limiting factor.

What’s encouraging to me is his passing ability. He’s not as fluid of an athlete as Precious but he has a better feel for the game and that’s hard to learn. He has his limitations but he’s got the potential to develop into a pretty decent piece for us.

Do everything 7th man in the rotation on a contender is useful. Hopefully that keeps his salary demands to around the MLE.

It's not that they can't get better, it's that for the player to have become a senior, they were probably not an obvious top prospect to begin with. For many stars, it was clear they were going to be pros even in high school.
