Mikallas Mavericks
Mikal Bridges for Naji Marshall, Daniel Gafford and 13th Overall
The Mavs consolidate to an upgrade without using any key pieces
The Knicks downgrade from Mikal to Naji to create more depth with a healthier back up big man than Robinson as well as a lottery pick.
What would be a good follow up move sending out Mitchell Robinson, Pacome Dadiet, PJ Tucker and the conditional Wiz 1st for a consolidated starter?
KAT, OG, Hart, Brunson and Trade 2 answer
Gafford, Naji, Deuce, Kolek and 13 on the bench

Re: Mikallas Mavericks
The Knicks just traded a billion firsts for Bridges and I'm sure it was to make Brunson happy. He also seems like a good enough fit on the team. I think they'd trade OG first. On value? I think this is around where his value should be, not where it was pegged by the Knicks when they made the deal. I do agree it is a bit short, but I think swapping Lively for Gafford is too much.

OG is just so crucial defensively that if we shake things up, it would be Bridges and unfortunately, we can't undo the trade so getting depth and a lotto pick has value I think.

What about a multi team (since Orlando has no use for Mitchell Robinson)...
Team X gets Mitchell Robinson
Magic get Team X Return, Hukporti, Dadiet and Tucker
Knicks get KCP
KAT/OG/Hart/KCP/Brunson
Gafford/Naji/Deuce/Kolek/13

Re: Mikallas Mavericks
I’m not sure what Bridges is worth as a now expiring? Or if NY would even choose to trade him.
Would rather see him end up on a team that can sit on cap space (Det, CLT, even Utah if they get Flagg) Kessler/Lauri/Flagg/Bridges/Sexton with Bridges getting an extra 15 million next season. Or Williams/Flagg/Miller/Bridges/Ball.. or Det similar..
Similar to Reaves, I don’t like Dallas trading for a guy that likely can’t be extended if the asking price is high. And I’d guess the price is still high on Bridges.
But for the OP, I easily do it..

I’ve been floating this kind of trade around all season with OG. Break him into two starting caliber players and a draft pick.
I thought OG for Gafford, PJ Washington and a 1st was fair value when Dallas pick was going to be in the 20’s. I can see a world where Washington is kept out of the deal since the pick is higher.
From the Knicks perspective- the only path to depth is moving off of one of Bridges or Anunoby.

Re: Mikallas Mavericks
The Knicks are not trading OG for spare parts and a mid-range frp. Full stop. If you've been watching our team at all this season, you'd see that he's been both our best defensive player and a key guy on offense (despite being 4th in the offensive pecking order). When OG plays with Brunson and KAT, we're top-5 in offense. When OG plays with Robinson, we're top-6 in defense. When we have Brunson, KAT, OG, Hart, Robinson, and Mikal all healthy and able to play at the same time--true for only 4 games this season--we can give even Boston a run for its money (overtime in the only such game, and we lost on some bad calls imo). Trading OG for anything less than a high-end starter destroys this team and leaves us no real path moving forward. (A frp pick outside the top of the lottery changes nothing, in my opinion. Our window is this season and the next two.)
Yes, Mikal was not worth what we paid for him, but that's not the main issue. The biggest problem is that he's just not going to bring back what we need to improve this team--e.g., a healthy starting caliber center/power forward who can rebound and protect the rim at an elite level plus a perimeter defender/sometime scorer to replace Mikal himself. Sure, if some team goes full Nico and decides to go all in on Mikal and/or Robinson (heck, just about anybody really) in a trade for their slightly overweight superstar still in his prime, then yeah, we make that trade. We're not the Lakers though, so I don't see this happening.
Barring that, Brunson, KAT, Hart, and OG are not going to be traded. I think Mikal and Robinson cannot be traded for what we need--too expensive or too unhealthy to be sufficiently attractive to other teams--so likely won't be traded either. I can see McBride and/or Precious being traded this summer--both good players on reasonable contracts that make them more attractive potentially--but I don't know who we can target with them yet. My two yen, anyway.

Don’t you mean full Leon by going all in on Bridges? Outside of the Luka disaster in Dallas, the Bridges trade is as bad as any in recent memory.

A championship contender giving up on a (slightly chubby) superstar in his prime for an oft-injured all-star center nearing the end of his prime (who quickly got injured again) is its own category.
Also, our biggest point of contention remains our respective valuations of the current roster. You have mentioned repeatedly that we don't have players in the top-10, have two (Brunson and KAT) in the top-15, and then nobody else in the top-30. That's why you want to start over and basically build up again from the draft and/or through trades for a superstar.
I value this squad far differently. I see Brunson and KAT both in the top-10 (with both occasionally producing in the top-5), and OG and Hart both in the top-30. I see a healthy Robinson as a key piece firming up our defense--again, we've been excellent when he and OG play together--with Mikal another good (not great but top-50) starter, and McBride, Precious, and Delon Wright all strong off the bench. With health, that's a very competitive team...one worth going all in on. Accordingly, I have no interest in more long-term rebuilding--no more acquisition of multiple middling players for trade bait for the mythical superstar who wants to be a Knick, and no more hoarding of frps in the 12-30 range hoping we stumble upon the next Curry or Jokic. Nothing against any of that, but we've just finished a season without our top-6 healthy and yet still ranked 4-6 in the NBA. That, to me, bodes well for the near future, and I'm all in.
We'll see who was correct by the end of next (not this) season. Fingers crossed.

I would do this...although the hole would be even bigger at the manager position after making this trade, since Marshall contributed a bit in that aspect...Sign CP3 after the trade
CP3/Klay/Bridges/PJ/Davis
KI*/Christie/Martín/O-Max/Lively
That should be a strong contender, right?

Re: Mikallas Mavericks
I love this idea for the Knicks.
It’s really that big man depth/ Health that has been their weakness this season. I think Bridges production is easily replaced.
I don’t like it for Dallas though.
I am not sure the Dallas plan, but I think if they are putting pick 13 on the table they could make a more impactful move.

This without the lottery pick feels like the sweet spot for both sides, but since I don't trust the Mavs to spend, it could just be punting Lively and letting Bridges walk.
But New York gets a defensive big they can have share the court with Towns for 5-6 minutes a half, who gives Brunson a lob threat and Thibs an anchor. Dallas gets more AD at center which while he doesn't like it, is what they should be doing anyway and upgrade the wing.
But the problem on this board is the anchoring of what they paid, without any adjustment for cheap years falling off the contract. This board understands the value of cheap years until they have fallen off our player's contract then we just insist of course he will re-sign with this team he has no ties with who blew up their future so pay us as if he's still locked into a great deal....

I agree with all of this, but neither extending Bridges, nor not extending Bridges this summer are attractive options and that's a problem.

I agree with all of this, but neither extending Bridges, nor not extending Bridges this summer are attractive options and that's a problem.
Yep.
If he would accept his current salary (25 million/year) over the new contract, I'm leaning towards extending Mikal (if only because if it doesn't work out, he'd then become very tradable moving forward). But Mikal likely won't take just that amount...and anything more in salary would leave him increasingly untradable.
So yeah, it'd be nice to trade him to avoid the dilemma entirely, but again I just don't see too many viable scenarios for trading him where we get something back we can really use. It's definitely a problem.
That said, it's also becoming increasingly apparent that Coach Thibs is a problem too. What happened to the freer five-out offense we instituted (out of necessity) after Brunson got hurt? It would be nice if we could retain an offense where every guy touches it rather than Brunson/Karl-Anthony Towns pick-and-rolls or isolations on every possession--among other things, this would make us less predictable in the half-court, but also potentially allow Mikal more opportunities to shine (and be traded for value).
Yep, the Knicks have a lot of problems/tough decisions ahead of them, and I'm not confident we can/will address them.
RIP magnumt--you're literally why I'm still here on these boards.
