All-NBA discussion
Didn't see a topic on this anywhere, and spent some time figuring out my picks tonight so I thought it would be fun to open a thread. Anyway, here's what I got:
1st team: Stephen Curry, Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Jayson Tatum, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic
2nd team: Donovan Mitchell, Anthony Edwards, Jalen Williams, Evan Mobley, Jaren Jackson Jr.
3rd team: Tyrese Haliburton, James Harden, Derrick White, Karl Anthony Towns, Ivica Zubac
Honorable mention: Darius Garland, Jalen Brunson, Amen Thompson, LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis
Considered the Cavs' guys strongly for first team, but ultimately couldn't pick either one of them to be as impactful and meaningful as Steph who's really turned it on for the most part lately. I know the 3rd team guys are going to be controversial, but Zubac seems like he's been every bit the defender Mobley and JJJ have while putting up similar numbers so I think he's earned his spot. White also has a case as one of the best defenders in the league, has surprisingly good numbers, and is the only Celtics' starter with a positive on/off. LeBron I just couldn't justify with how bad the Lakers have been with him on the court. Even Sabonis has a net rating that's 3.7 points higher.

I do not know who is eligible with these new stupid rules, too lazy to look it up. But I will trust you that your picks are eligible. I would say its a good list. I probably wouldn't have Harden there still. I would probably just put LeBron there. Domantas Sabonis I said this so many times, but he is so overrated, he is easily most overrated player in a league in my opinion, to me he wouldn't be anywhere near honorable mentions, he is just rebounder who plays a lot, those are his skills, rebounding and stamina. Give me guy like Sengun, he is basically Sabonis if Sabonis was good, I would probably have Sengun or Zubac as third team, leaning towards Sengun.

3rd team: Cade Cunningham, Garland, Jaylen Brown, KAT, Ivica Zubac
Haliburton, Brunson and LeBron don't make the cut
I rewarded Cavs with 3 all NBA spots given none of their players in a serious MVP contender, but the team is elite, rewarded Galrand over Brunson..
Rewarded Cade over Hali for recognition, Hali was borderline last year and was rewarded his 1st time all NBA selection, I think Cade deserves one this year.
Rewarded Zubac over LeBron, this is the 1st year LeBron has bad impact stats, Zubac is having a career year and is legit one of the big 3 on LAC.
Rockets, despite being good, aren't good offensively and had a hard time finiding spot for Sengun.

I think KD is ineligible after tonight's game.
Gordon Haywood, Dwayne Wade, JJ Reddick, Derek Rose, Derrick Fisher, Lenny Wilkins, Kirk Heinrich, Oscar Robinson, DeMar DeRozen, Andre Iguadola, Pascal Siakim, Malcolm Brogdan

Yeah, I am not sure on the rules. Not sure Brunson will be eligible either. I'd move Sabonis to the 2nd team and add Ivica Zubac to the 3rd team.

Re: All-NBA discussion
I have Mobley on the first team. Defensive anchor of a 60+ win team with strong scoring efficiency and playmaking. He just does it all in a way I don't think any of the smaller offensive guards can match. It's the consistency too. Mobley was pretty much a monster all year for his team.
Shai, Tatum, Mobley, Giannis, Jokic
Mitchell, Curry, J.Dub, JJJ, Towns
Brunson, Ant, Garland, Lebron, Cade
- Guys I thought long and hard about: Zubac, Durant, Siakam, Haliburton, Murray, J.Brown, D.White.
- Still thinking about Zubac, tbh. Could swap him in for anyone on the 3rd team almost.
- I flip flop on Brunson vs. Curry. I would have gone Brunson before he missed these 15 games. I still might lean back towards Brunson if he safetly crosses that 65 game threshold. Curry is Curry but his statistical footprint and scoring volume continue to shrink. Sometimes I watch the Warriors and dislike his on-ball decision making and weird decision making.

The people without LeBron on their all-NBA teams have to be trolling… just absurd.

I had him in (and I debated putting him 2nd team), but I don't agree with this statement at all. I think there are at least 6-13 guys that are all-NBA calibre that wont make a team this year. Lebron is 40 years old, and was spectacular at times this year, and awful at others. Lebron got better as the year went on, but that November/December still exists, and as a result of that, Lebron finishes the season (for the first time ever) with a negative net rating (-5.9 on/off). It's his lowest scoring season since his rookie season. He spent 3 months being a total liability on defense.
There's such an obvious case to make against Lebron this year. There's also an obvious case to make for him. You're a Lakers fan so of course Lebron is your main character. Try to remember that's not the case for plenty of other fans and don't pretend you're the objective one here.

There’s absolutely zero case for leaving LeBron off all-NBA this year. None. And you can’t pretend you’re the objective one here either when you make comments about lebron “being a total liability on defense.” He’s been outstanding defensively this season.

What does "outstanding" mean to you? Cause every metric measuring it says he's been slightly better than average.

Everyone knows who the top 5 guys in the league are - so the only way Tatum doesn’t make the first team is if you are trolling. Tatum is either the 4th or 5th best player on earth - everyone without him the first team have some irrational bias.

I said he spent 3 months being a liability. I've been impressed with Lebron's defense over the second half of the season. Those first 3 months though... I thought he was cooked. No ability to make long rotations or contest shots on the perimeter. He was a statue out there. Sometimes with older players, they struggle early and then get into peak form later.
I think the case is simple and I already laid it out. I have Lebron on my all-NBA team this year. I don't think it's outrageous to have him on the cusp. It was a tale of 2 seasons for 40-year-old Lebron this year. A lot of players were more consistent. It doesn't even have to be "Lebron bad", it could just be someone who was really into the seasons of guys like Sabonis, Zubac, Siakam, Cade, Garland, Harden, Sengun, Haliburton etc. I picked Lebron over all those dudes, but those dudes are good and it's not crazy for someone to pick them.
I'm sure a large contingent of people not picking Lebron fall in the hater camp. I see a reasonable case though. I'm not the one making the case, I just see that it exists and doesn't deserve outrage.

The first team has one spot cause Luka ineligible- and Embiid perpetratually hurt- Mitchell or Curry-
Lebron second or 3rd team easy

Haliburton is 7th in BPM and 5th in VORP. Jalen Williams is 19th in both, which is still better than Cade. In fact you could put Jalen Williams above Cade and I wouldn't be mad about it, being the best guy and leading his team to the playoffs is barely getting Cade on the list here. Sengun and Harden both better in impact stats than Williams as well. Zach Lowe had Haliburton second team by the way.
