Hi Everyone,

Basketball has been dead in my heart since the Luka trade, and I have been struggling to watch any games since then.

However, the way the Pacers play reminds me of the Dirk Nash Finley era so much, and it only makes sense that the Pacers have inherited the same elite offense coached by the former Mavs legendary coach Rick aka Jim Carrey.

I hope I am accepted here as a Mavs refugee. And I will be supporting the Pacers going forward.

As far as favorite players I’d say Pascal Siakam is my favorite, I root for Jarace Walker to breakout into a beast, and hope our young players like Mathurin, Sheppard, and Furphy all develop more sooner than later.

You're ditching the Mavs after the Luka trade? Well I would have liked to see them get a bit more for him, but you have to consider that the team just didn't want to give him that SuperMax contract. Getting AD and Christie with the 2029 #1 is a bit light, they should have gotten the 2031 #1 too.

Question for you on the Mavs since it was your former team, what's gonna happen with Kyrie Irving? He's 33 years old just had a torn ACL and has his option year coming up. Do you think he will opt in or leave? My guess is he opts in to the $44 million he's got coming or maybe if given the chance for a 1+1 for some $34 million a year that would help the team and give him another shot at redemption.

To address your questions:

1. It's hard not to ditch the Mavs when traitors with their own interests are running the team. I will only pay attention to their success or failure when Nico is fired and the team is given to a better owner.
2. About Ky, my personal take is he will leave the Mavs because Ky's market is becoming a lot better despite his devastating ACL injury. I can easily see he joins his friends Lebron and Luka with a lesser contract to try to win another ring. The narrative couldn't be more obvious, Lakers and Adam Silver want Lebron to win another ring before his retirement. So they can have more talk about him over MJ. Also, I don't think Ky values money and loyalty that much. I mean why would he try to be a role model under a toxic organization like Mavs? He knows in his heart that Luka was handled dirty without any class.

Supposedly, Rick Carlisle has been using some of the lessons he learned while coaching Luca to try to empower Tyrese Haliburton to run the offense. Rese is the engine of the Pacers offense, and it is clear he has Rick's full confidence to go out and make plays for himself and others. It is really fun to watch on nights when the offense is really humming.

As far as what they need to get the advantage on the elite teams of the league, I think the main thing in my mind is Haliburton proving to everyone he can be that number one option in the playoffs that can go shot for shot with the Tatum and SGAs of the league. We have seen him be that guy in stretches. I wanna see it every night.

The Pacers have put shooting around him, good individual defenders, a secondary option who has won a championship, and plenty of depth. But they will only go as far as Haliburton can take them imo.

As for Reggie, he doesn’t allow his jersey or image to be used by the NBA or NBPA, so there’s no new legit jerseys being made of him. For the most part, have to find the old ones on eBay, local sales sites, or buy some “imitations”. I think the nba/Pacers tool to make your own jersey with a name and number combination won’t allow Miller/31 pairings to be made.

I think an increase in the talent ceiling? Pacers have to play to or very close to their ceiling to beat some of the top teams. They've done it, but is that enough when they face another team playing close to their top talent level? (tbf this could come with growth and maturation of Walker's game, or Mathurin's game being remade to better fit the style of the team? Though, I still think we need a bigger wing as well.)

Thanks to the other answers! IMO, that increase in overall talent level needs to be an elite, all nba caliber wing defender. A guy who is still part of the offense,.. a threat to shoot, so they have to be covered, but who's real calling is defending the other teams best wing player. A guy you can put on Giannis, Tatum, or Brown & know that the other teams player is not going to be in position to win the game, or really reduces their contribution to winning the game? (Like a pre-injury, prime Jonathan Isaac, or a Cooper Flagg, to a slightly lesser degree Jones in NO, or Williams in CHI, or OG?) Probably at the SF, but able to guard up & down the line 2-4 for the Pacers?

They need a big SF I like Nesmith a lot but at 6'6'' I'd like to have him at SG. With Haliburton at point and then Nembhard and Mathurin with TJ and Sheppard they are loaded at the Guards. So Nesmith would be a swing man.

I'd agree who would they trade to get that big SF? Probably no body. I'm expecting Obi Toppin to get dealt with our 2025 #1 for some teams 2026 #1, but there are only a couple of teams who can just absorb Toppin's contract and send money back. The point of it is to save money so they can resign Turner. Hope is Walker makes the jump in his 3rd season to be the backup at PF or maybe the big SF the team needs.
