Your picks for Jaren Jackson Jr.

Post#1 » by esvl » Thu Apr 10, 2025 6:32 pm

The raise of Aldama and Edey might force the Grizzlies FO to consider whether they want to give JJJ all the money he wants and deserves so that their roster gets limited for many years to minimum salary guys behind Big 3. As an alternative option, FO might decide to sign FDS as a veteran 3&D replacement and rather rely on further progress of Aldama (to be re-signed at under 20m) and Edey. On the top of financial flexibility, they would get a great package of future picks that will secure the franchise future similar to what happened to OKC.

Now, I wonder who is willing to offer Memphis multiple unprotected 1sts (+ filler) for JJJ?

raise of Edey? he is on rookie scale for 3 more years

or did you mean the play of edey/aldama? i (mis?) read that as payroll raise. I dont think Aldama/Edey would make up for the loss of JJJ if you are serious about trying to win.

I think the only way this should even be considered for a conversation is if JJJ is demanding a super max despite the team being able to give him like 25-30 million extra next season? Which I really don’t see happening and then the team needs to have decided they aren’t willing to give it to him..

But I do talk about Bridges getting traded at draft and then extended midseason, I think JJJ would be a pretty similar situation? Like Detroit could easily trade for him and sit on 15 million.. then give him another boost the first new season getting him to his max (at that point) and saving a couple million a year thanks to it.. CLT could do similar..

Think Memphis would have a lot of offers in the OP’s scenario though. Sac should set the bidding pretty highly. How good is a JJJ/Zion/Trey/Harper/DJM lineup? Wemby/JJJ/Castle/Fox..

Memphis has been a really competitive RS for several years now. But not having a top tier player has capped their playoff ceiling. Can't imagine they would want to trade off their most impactful player for picks further reducing their ability to make playoff runs.

There is a reason they were in on Durant.

Now if Memphis lets teams talk to him about money and a handshake can be reached then you would have no issues getting multiple teams to line up with a package of picks. Can't name specific teams, but my guess is you might get 6 or 7 serious offers.

I doubt Memphis pursues the Suns’ or Clippers’ all-win strategy. I personally don’t care about the title nearly as much as the team’s identity. The owners might also value sustainability more. Not to mention that when you have 3+ additional unprotected 1sts and see that Aldama or Edey stops growing, you can fix the problem at the deadline.

With our pick pretty much guaranteed to convey to Atlanta this year unless we jump into the top 4 in the lottery, we'll have full control over our firsts going forward and JJJ is one of the few players I'd be interested in sending them out for. Something like Derozan, Devin Carter plus whatever picks it takes.

Keon/Lavine/Keegan/JJJ/Sabonis is a lineup I could definitely get behind.

Derozan might not be the 3+D guy you're looking for but would certainly fill the 20 PPG void left by sending JJJ out.

I don’t want DDR in Memphis even if the Kings agree to keep paying his salary.

I think this would be nuts for MEM, but (especially after Luka) I can see how a non-contending small-market might have grave concerns about a guy flirting with a Supermax.

Bigger issue is Silver needs to re-do the Supermax to not count 100% against the cap or it will have exactly the opposite effect of the intended outcome (keeping stars in the places that drafted them)

Doesn't fit OP's specified desire of expiring filler and picks, but I could see BOS offering Jaylen Brown either directly to MEM or as part of a multi team scenario.

Bulls offer Vuc, Ayo, #12, Port pick, 2027 pick unprotected and what else for JJJ/Konchar (I'm assuming he has negative value, but not sure)

Jaren is not getting traded he is the most untouchable guy on the roster unless he is needed for Giannis deal which I wouldn’t do.

But for the board sake either trade him to OKC for J/Dub and picks or get everything you can from Brooklyn.

I don't think grizz would do a trade like this but I'm putting the PHX picks out there with Jabari from Houston

Detroit would give a ton for JJJ, but we don’t have the ammo that other teams do (in picks, in particular). However, if you’d be interested in a highly intriguing young player and a lesser package of picks, JJJ is one of very few guys I’d make Ausar available for. You want grit and grind, a Thompson twin is going to fit right in.

Still, I can’t imagine Memphis actually going this route. Fun to speculate, though. The fit on our team is just tremendous — we need a rim protector, but we rebound well already. We want a stretch four so we can keep playing Duren at center. We love lob catchers. We love defense. I mean, there’s probably no one in the whole league that fits better for that list than JJJ.

Another note, probably a lot closer to reality: We may put an offer in on Aldama as a RFA that annoys the hell out of Memphis. Like, more money than he’s probably worth. He’s a nice fit, too, even if the defense is several notches lower.

You wouldn't trade JJJ for Giannis?

Considering age probably not but I think we could make the best realistic offer for Giannis.

Portland’s got some nice expirings and picks. Imagine a defensive starting lineup of Camara, Deni, and JJJ with Clingan off the bench.

"Imagine trading for a Top 25 player in the NBA while we, a team without a Top 25 player in the NBA, remove some of our best assets to acquire said player!"

So what is Portland's offer?

Sharpe + 2025 Portland 1st (#10) + Future Unprotected 1st + Filler?

Seems a bit light.

Warriors don't have enough picks for JJJ. I doubt we can afford one J.
