Congrats AJ! I guess he's earned the Garrett Temple roster spot.
Just needs to stick around and get that NBA pension!

Probably unguaranteed next year, so essentially a camp invite.

Nice! Him and Rhoden have played really well together and given us value. They also provide 3rd string depth that makes a few guys (ochai/dick) available for the right deal.

If it’s guaranteed I think it almost has to imply a follow up move this offseason. Can’t see us going into the tax for Lawson. Or it means Boucher is definitely gone.
Either way, it’s a low cost flier on a guy who still has some upside.

At most, it's partial guarantees. Otherwise, they would have just waited until at least free agency. The FO loves flexibility, I'd be shocked if they handcuff themselves with an AJ Lawson deal.

Good for AJ, but don't we want to at least see what is out there this off-season before filling up valuable roster spots this early?

I think he would be getting at minimum the 75k guaranteed that allows him to still be eligible for a two-way. But I would expect something more substantial like 250k.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Any details on the contract? Guessing it's like Battle's where it's partially guaranteed for next year and fully non guaranteed for the 2nd year.

I thought once you convert from 2-way to a standard contract, you can't go back to a 2-way. Am I mistaken? But yeah, there are probably some partial guarantees in there. I'd be shocked if the whole thing is guaranteed - roster spots and space below the tax are at a premium for this team next year/until they can dump RJ.

They're converting him so I believe this year counts as the 1st year of the contract. Next year is the 2nd year of the contract.

Ochai should be 100% gone on draft day. Lawson provides close enough guard play, instead of paying Ochai $6-MLE in the future. I'd be happy with an early 2nd round pick to nab Condon or Tomislav. Also sell Ochai while his 3pt shooting is over 39%.

IQ/Shead
Agabji/Dick/RJ/Lawson
Seems fairly normal to me on an 18-man roster especially when Ochai/RJ play some 3

Lawson is no where near the defender nor 3 point shooter.
Lawson is a 3rd stringer. Ochai is a legit rotation piece.

I think it only matters that what you have been paid doesn’t exceed 75K but maybe it doesn’t matter actually come to think of it because he won’t be eligible for a two way next anyway having 4 years experience.

That's the right way to proceed with those guys. Seen too many G leaguers who do well in nothing games late in regular season then splutter during summer league and/or training camp when pressure's actually on to make the team.

Lawson's 2025-26 salary being fully non-guaranteed basically just makes this signing an early training camp invite for next season.
