I think Murray’s injury worries are less of a problem than Suggs’.

NO chance. Jamal Murray is decaying every year and that 50+mil per contract is poison. I rather take a risk at Trae Young for that cost.

this is how i feel. I think Murray really, really benefits from playing with Jokic. He is not a $55-65mil/yr player in my opinion

Big offseason blockbuster!!!

Magic in: Devin booker

Suns in: Jalen Suggs, Jonathan Isaac, both our firsts this year, 2027 1st unprotected and 2029 1st unprotected.

We build around our core of Paolo, Franz and Booker. We have plenty of other assets that we can use to build the best team around them. I like Black and TDS as good young role players. I like bringing Moe back for bench scoring and energy. I wouldn’t be hurt if we packaged Dell, Kcp and/or Cole to get an upgrade at center.

Thoughts?

That might even be one frp too heavy (or at least some light protections?)...that works. Sure wish we could ship out KCP and keep Suggs...but PHX would be going teardown/youth movement by the time they got to Book.

I know I’m probably like the extreme minority here, but I’d actually gauge trade interest in Paolo this summer. The more I see this kids behavior I smell trouble. He’s the most foul mouthed freaking kid in the NBA from what I’ve read, and honestly the most impressed I’ve been with this team was when Franz and Suggs were leading it. I’m not knocking his talent but I have serious character concerns with him. I’d say look at scoring again a Devin Booker or and another star guard and prospects for him.

NOLA sends: Herb Jones ($14m + another year), CJ McCollum ($31m expiring)
NOLA gets: Kevin Durant (54.7m expiring)
*Why: A KD/Missi/Zion frontcourt with DeJounte Murray, Trey Murphy, Olynyk, Hawkins, and a likely Top 4 frp coming in is a contender

PHX sends: Kevin Durant
PHX gets: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (21.6m + one additional PO), Wendell Carter (11m + 2 more+ TO), Jett Howard (5.5m + one TO), ORL 25 frp (#16)
*Why: Split KD's large expiring into 2 complementary starters and a solid prospect to go with another mid frp this summer for quick retool/rebalance

ORL sends: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Wendell Carter, Jett Howard, ORL 25 frp (#16)
ORL gets: Herb Jones, CJ McCollum
Why: Sending out considerable guaranteed money attached to 2 starters that aren't ideal fits, a still undefined prospect and a mid frp for an older sharpshooting PG who brings leadership and offensive firepower and an underpaid super-versatile 3&D guy that can jump into 3 spots for considerable minutes off the bench. CJ is 33yo, on a $31m expiring deal and could possibly consider a more moderate extension if the fit and environment suits him. CJ is a more sensible fitting vet acquisition than KCP was ...probably equivalent overall impact, but CJ's offense is a MUCH better fit with Suggs and AB (and Herb Jones) defending at an elite level and spreading the floor. The frp is substantial, but so is the amount of guaranteed money going out as well as Herb Jones' individual positive value.

NEXT:
-Cole and DEN frp to DAL for Gafford...Cole can run point until Kyrie is back and provide scoring off the bench, plus he's expiring for future flexibility
-Offer MLE to DeAngelo Russell and give him every opportunity to be a leader and 6MOY candidate (and possibly starting next to Suggs eventually).
-Depending on how Isaac looks next year, he or Goga might be offered up at the TD, presuming Moe is looking healthy.
*AB, Franz, and Jones can be deployed at so many positions and matchups that there will be minutes for all 3 from 2-4. Russell might move CJ to 6th man if he shows court vision and leadership as well as his usual scoring...CJ's next deal will reflect that or he just walks. In the meantime, ORL has more firepower in the backcourt than they've had since Penny & Nick...and an improved young frontcourt with Gafford & Jones joining Paolo & Franz. I'm a believer in both TdS and Houstan, so I'm not really sure how the minutes work out but those guys are excellent values, even if not in the tight core rotation. Again, I think Jones & TdS make Isaac a lot more available, given his minutes limitations and poor year. JI might still rally defensively and give us reason to protect his role...when he's on - there's really no one like him and, collectively, the contracts are sustainable -for a year.

Gafford/Goga/Isaac/Moe
Paolo/Jones/Isaac/TdS
Franz/Jones/Houstan/TdS
Suggs/AB/Queen
McCollum/Russell/CoJo

I’m also with you, but the problem is the backlash the franchise will get from trading him. But I really like the team’s dynamic when only one of our big two is playing. I still think they don’t fit that well (at the moment at least).

Probably not since we have a pick swap with the Suns next season.

That sounds like fake news. What's your source? Every time I see Paolo in an interview he seems very level headed and a good guy. I do agree though he needs to slow his roll with the hero ball and Franz plays better without Paolo and the team plays better overall as a team. Paolo has a -25 +/- this year and Franz has a +229. Ball stops moving when Paolo gets the ball. I think with good coaching Paolo would change. He didn't play that way at Duke. I think Mose basically lets him do whatever he wants and may encourage it.

okay so we're just making stuff up now......I scouted him for the draft and everything i read about him, zero character issues....grew up in a two parent household.....very coachable...like what are we talking about here.....this is why we can't have nice things....Man is playing like a top 10 player.....yeah....let's trade him because he has a foul mouth....man gtfoh

Jamal Murray's under contract for the next four years at...

$46,394,100
$50,105,628
$53,817,156
$57,528,684

He's very good. But trading a 24 year old making 30M AAV for a 28 year old making 52M AAV... I dunno!

And Paolo is extension eligible this summer. 3 Max contracts on the team? I don't think so

What it boils down to for me is this...

Does adding Murray make you a contender in the East or not?

If the answer is yes, then I'd make the trade and just deal with the financial ramifications down the road.

They wouldn't be over the 2nd apron next year, not until Paolo's extension actually kicks in in 2026-27.

Swapping one injury prone guard for a more injury prone, older, and worse contract guard is the most Rob Hennigan thing ever. Unless he is in a package for Booker (unlikely), Im sticking with Suggs. I don't think Weltman touches big 3......yet. We got them for 90 minutes together this season. Now, if we go full year with all 3 and fail to make it past first round again? then yeah, changes coming

Seven consecutive seasons of 92nd percentile offensive EPM or better.

95th percentile this year.

Health is obviously a concern, particularly at his price point, but his play has been remarkably consistent over the years.

I just think he's overpaid. He would be on the market for a reason.
