Re: West Watch: Lakers vs Warriors First Round Matchup
Posters will complain that there aren't compelling rivalries / match ups anymore and then, in the next breath, complain we might get Warriors/Lakers. Pick a side people. Always something to complain about. I'm hyped for this potential match up
Also, if you want to win a title, you have to face good teams. Doesn't matter if its in round 1 or WCF (addressing those saying they don't want this matchup in the first round lol)

It would be quite beautiful to see Curry gift LeBron a first-round exit.

Assuming all winnable games are won.
If Mem loses today, they are 8th seed.
If DEN loses today, they are a play in team, and very likely 8th seed.
P.S. Tried to get AI to do it, SOB refused and bitched that it's hard for it to determine the results
Denver has been 4th seed and above every day since December 31st except a single day at 5th early January, they can find themselves 8th seed! with a loss to Memphis, absolutely brutal.
Mem>DEN & GSW>LAC
4.Minny
5.GS
6.LAC
7.MEM
8.DEN!!!!
Mem>DEN & LAC>GSW
4.LAC
5. MIN
6. MEM
7.DEN
8.GSW
Mem<DEN & GSW>LAC
4. DEN
5. MIN
6. GSW
7. LAC
8. MEM
Mem<DEN & GSW<LAC
4. DEN
5. LAC
6. MIN
7.GSW
8.MEM
LAC, MIN and GS are rooting for Memphis today, Memphis win will make their game against the Clippers much less critical for the Clips (4th vs 6th seed for the Clips, much less critical than being in play in), MIN will have HCA if the dice roll their way.
Thanks for the breakdown! (And others who also showed the probable scenarios)
So for "rivalry" sake i think the best scenario is:
Mem<DEN & GSW>LAC
4. DEN
5. MIN
6. GSW
7. LAC
8. MEM
We get
OKC vs MEM, not bad maybe Morant *explodes* all series and make this an interesting series
HOU-LAC, not much rivalry (i think) but Clippers are hot recently so maybe that's going to be competitive too
DEN-MIN, after last year's series...
LAL-GSW, Bron/Luka vs Steph...
If there is no basketball in heaven, i am not going.

Call me crazy but I actually don’t want to see them play in the first round. Feel like we need new matchups.
I’d love a Warriors-Nuggets, Wolves-Rockets, Lakers-Clippers for example. That would be really fun.

6th seed is too close to call. Warriors/Clippers game on Sunday is going to be monumental.

I want Lakers/Clippers also, Luka Vs Clippers again, and 1st time LA match up in the PO, DEN/OKC and MIN/GSW will also be fun.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

I just feel like I’ve seen 100 LeBron vs Steph games at this point. It’s always great but I’d love to see something new. Much more compelling that way. They can play in the second round or something.

6 Warriors (47-33)
7 Grizzlies (47-33)
8 Wolves (47-33)
9 Kings (39-41)
10 Mavericks (38-42)
Obvious takes:
- Clippers the biggest winner since last update with a six-game winning streak and rise to the 5th spot
- Grizzlies the biggest losers dropping to a play-in spot
- HOWEVER, ONE GAME separates the fourth seed from the 8th seed, so the next two games are still crucial for the teams involved. Tiebreaker scenarios likely to come into play...
Remaining Schedule:
Nuggets (vs Grizzlies, @ Rockets)
Warriors (@ Blazers, vs Clippers)
Clippers (@ Kings, @ Warriors)
Grizz (@ Nuggets, vs Mavs)
Lakers (vs Rockets, vs Blazers)
Wolves ( vs Nets, vs Jazz)
Those GSW vs LAC and DEN vs MEM final dates are marquee match-ups the last two playdates and could very well decide who gets the 4th and 5th spots.
- Nuggets could get lucky with a late meeting with the already locked-in-second-spot Rockets, who are expected to rest their key players.
- Warriors visit the Blazers, who are fighting for nothing but could pull off a (recent) Spurs-like upset over Golden State.
- Clippers get a Kings team who might also be looking forward to the play-in already before facing Golden State on final day...
- Grizz plays in Denver...
Lakers and Wolves virtually on the same boat in that all remaining games are *non-bearing* games for their opponents.
And oh, current standings, we have Warriors vs Lakers in the first round, wooohoo!!!
If Denver beats Memphis and LAC beats the kings tonight the chances of GS making top 6 are almost zero (they’d need T-Wolves to lose to either Brooklyn or Utah). So the GS lakers match up hopes could be pretty much ended tonight
No actually that isn't true. If Minnesota wins out, they are the 5 seed, but that's only if GSW beats LAC on the last game of the season. If GSW wins out, they are the 6 seed regardless, unless Memphis beats Denver. That would screw everything up and probably make them the 6 seed. But again LAC beating GSW on the last game would put LAC in fifth, and Minnesota 6th.
Yeah I think there is lots of confusion around who finishes where in a 3 way tie between the Twolves, Warriors and Clippers. Clearly t wolves get the 5 seed, but do the head to heads then reset between clippers and GS (which would give the clippers the 6 seed) or is it still done on the combined 3 way head to head (giving Gs the 6 seed). Seems like lots of conflicting info on the rules of a 3 way tie

Lakers in 5, maybe 6 if Curry hits his god mode in a couple of games
these Warriors are fun but too old and their weakest starters are too weak to pose a real threat to any of the top teams like OKC,Rockets a healthy Clippers team or the Lakers for that matter

Thunder fan but I feel the same, I want to avoid the Lakers and their referees for as long as possible. The storyline is there. 40 year old Lebron and a Luka that was wronged by his former team. Lebron "helps" him get his first title and goes out gloriously and retires proclaiming himself as the greatest of all time.Liam_Gallagher wrote:As a Laker fan I want Memphis, Houston, and then OKC.

Not exactly. With 3 or more teams, seeding is applied first on the basis of winning percentage in all games among the tied teams. That could be the end of it. Only if two teams are still tied does it revert to the 2 team tiebreakers.

Thunder fans should be keeping their fingers crossed for Lakers/Warriors, as it would ensure they only have to play one and not both.

Lakers have comfortably the best head to head record so would be fine, I think Denver and Memphis would be in trouble

Re: West Watch: Lakers vs Warriors First Round Matchup
FINAL GAMEDAY update!
Current Standings:
4 Nuggets (49-32)
5 Clippers (49-32)
6 Warriors (48-33)
7 Wolves (48-33)
8 Grizzlies (47-34)
9 Kings (39-42)
10 Mavericks (39-42)
Remaining Schedule:
Nuggets (@ Rockets)
Warriors (vs Clippers)
Clippers (@ Warriors)
Grizz (vs Mavs)
Wolves (vs Jazz)
Assuming the "favorites" deliver the W in the final day:
4 Nuggets (50-32) - Takes on a resting Rockets squad, should be a win
5 Wolves (49-33) - Takes on a resting (since all star break) Jazz squad, should be a blowout win.
6 Warriors (49-33)
7 Clippers (49-33)
8 Grizzlies (47-35) - Likely 8th seed. Should not use Ja Morant's grenade.
9 Kings (40-42) - Faces the sorry Suns, should get the HC advantage in the playin round with 3-0 record over Mavs in reg season.
10 Mavericks (40-42) - Faces Memphis.
TIEBREAKER BASIS FOR MULTI-WAY TIES:
(1) Division leader wins tie from team not leading a division
(2) Head-to-head won-lost percentage
(3) Division won-lost percentage for teams in the same division
(4) Conference won-lost percentage
(5) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, own conference
(6) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, other conference
(7) Net Points, all games
Wolves, 3-0 vs Clippers
Wolves, 1-3 vs Warriors
Wolves, 4-3 among tied teams
Warriors, 3-1 vs Wolves
Warriors, 1-3 vs Clippers
Warriors 4-4 among tied teams
Clippers, 3-1 vs Warriors
Clippers, 0-3 vs Wolves
Clippers 3-4 among tied teams
In short, that Clippers vs Warriors game should decide the final seedings (and of course if any upset from those Nuggets' and Wolves' games)
If Clippers win, they avoid the play-in round and will be tied with the Nuggets, who are 2-2 vs the Clippers this season (so record vs West, Nuggets takes the tiebreak win)
If Warriors win, we'll get (what every casual wants):
Thunder vs. Grizzlies (or Clippers/Mavericks/Kings)
Rockets vs Clippers (or Grizzlies/Mavericks/Kings)
Lakers vs Warriors!
Nuggets vs Wolves!
GO WARRIORS!

Warriors-Lakers would be good not only for Lebron against Curry and Green, but also LeBron against Butler. Butler was drafted to defend LeBron, and is 0-3 in playoff series against him. Maybe he could finally win one.
